12/27 - Rashad Vaughn will NOT attend the U

We all know deep inside we have a 2 % chance at landing 1 of the big 3. I have faith that Pitino will find good recruits from other states.

I really believe it's between the U and UNC when it comes to Vaughn. I think Pitino has some ground to make up and is definitely behind, but if he's as relentless as we hear about then he'll make it close.

Agree.

Based on the outcome of the last Gopher basketball related event that had a 2% chance of happening, I'll take it! :)

Cayman, but you need to give credit where credit is due, and the two percent is credited to wren.

Speak for yourself. I believe our chances of getting one of them are pretty good. I have faith that we will also get good out-of-state recruits with Pitino though, so we agree there.

That's the first time somebody agreed with me on this forum. You sure you don't want to change your mind?

Over two month ago on Tubbys watch: March 9th.

I believe it was well after this visit that he and his father met and swooned over Pitino, and perhaps changed their minds on our chances. Good thing that Vaughn didn't commit back then.

UNC guys saying his parents wouldn't let him commit without visiting the campus and talking to the coaches first. Makes sense. I wouldn't send my kid that far away from home without even seeing where he is going to stay.

From the UNC perspective, these almost committed players don't work out very well a good chunk of the time. Shabazz Muhammad is a recent example where he nearly committed, but his pops told him to hold off.

I heard Michael Jordan was trying to convince Wiggins to go to UNC. I bet Jordan has spoken with Vaughn too.

I am surprised this hasn't been brought up yet.

ESPN 60 SF Pinson to announce Wed.

"Junior small forward Theo Pinson (Greensboro, N.C./Wesleyan Christian) will announce his college decision on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. ET, ESPN.com has learned.

The No. 12 ranked Class of 2014 prospect will decide between Georgetown, Duke, Louisville, Indiana and North Carolina. "

I post this here because this might play a big role in Vaughn's decision. If Theo Pinson picks North Carolina, which there is a good chance he will considering he is from Greensboro, this will no doubt give Vaughn second thoughts about going there considering Pinson is also a wing player. Obviously they can still play together at the 2 and the 3, but if Vaughn is all about being "the man" like most of us think he is, that would be hard to do when have another talented scorer playing the wing position with you. I will personally be rooting for Pinson to pick UNC and I think most gopher fans should as well if they want to increase the chances Vaughn to come here.

Good info. Thanks for posting.

GuyFawkes, good info to share with us based on some real info. Usually, on a thread like this we are getting people's opinions based on nothing other than other people's opinions which are also based on, well you know. And what we end up with are repeat comments after repeat comments and yours is finally something new. Thanks.

Predictions from most of the national recruiting guys have Pinson choosing IU over UNC.

Didn't Theo Pinson try to latch onto the Tyus Jones/Jahlil Okafor package deal?

I have only heard of Cliff Alexander and Justise Winslow possibly joining the package deal, Theo would be news to me

I should probably add that five-star small forward Justin Jackson has already committed to UNC, and that most people have Indiana and Louisville as Theo's top 2 right now probably because of that fact. Besides Theo, North Carolina has three other offers out for three other players in the 2014 class: D’Angelo Russell, Rashad Vaughn, and Devin Booker. All three are shooting guards.

Shooting Guard and Small Forward are pretty much the same position in high school and college.

As most of you know Pinson picked UNC. Here is what Doogie tweeted about how this impacts Vaughn. I have hard time believing it, but I guess in time we'll see.

Well yeah, it would only have impacted him had Pinson committed to MN.

...which means it's caught their attention, and they're thinking about it.

I do not like the "him/them" - does this mean Vaughn is planning on going to Duke with Tyus and O or does that mean "they" have already decided on MN?

i think it more means that Rashad and his family (him/them) are going to pick the school that he is most comfortable with regardless of what other players have committed there.
