Could have ended better if we didn't lose track of Abrams but the guys can be proud of taking this step. This gives them a view of what has to be done. This will be a much tougher team next year with the added talent and another year of strenght and experience.

Good game Gophs and Tubby!!

Agreed. We are on the right track but some of our faults sure showed tonight. A good ride this year with the Gophs.

Thanks to Jamal and Big Jon. They have been through so much and have worked hard. They will be missed because of they were both team players. Thank you seniors

Great post! It was an exciting year for sure. I don't think any of us felt like an NCAA trip was guaranteed, but now we know that we can expect it -- and a deep run -- next year. The future is very, very bright.

Thanks for a great season, Gophers!

You just beat me to it, bga. I think that anyone had realistic expectations was very pleased with this season. Going to the NCAA tourney for the 1st time in 4 years is a huge accomplishment, and they should be proud of themselves. I see nothing but good things to come in the future, this is just the beginning!

Looking at the future, I like to use the expression: The Night is but a PUP. Young and early. Thank you to the Minnesota Golden Gophers for a fun and exciting season.

I can't wait for next year already.

I'm also interested to see how the players improve and how the new additions contribute.

It was a good season. Making it to the tourney. Sweeping Wisconsin. Beating Louisville.

And the good thing is, it's only going to get better.

All in all this season has to be considered a success and some positive steps were taken. With a talent infusion next year along with the maturation of some younger players this team could be very dangerous next year. They should be right back in the tourney with a chance to do some damage. I'm very pleased with the Tubby era thus far.

Its been enjoyable talking Gopher Basketball with everyone....maybe one day I'll be able to afford to leave the state of Ohio and make it to Minnesota for a game and meet some other Gopher Holers. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight, i have that same feeling I had when I found there was no Santa....blah.

Hey Youngstown, Pittsburgher here, not too far from Youngstown...I'm hoping the Gophers come to Pitt soon, would be a great OOC game. Two years from now maybe?

You're mediocre, you POS fruit.

I simply disagree. Going .500 in big ten play and losing in the first round of the NCAA tourney is mediocre at best. What were the Gophers the 8th seed in the big ten tourney?

That is mediocre. You can call names all you want. Try making a valid argument.

I'll break it down like this: Great start + bad finish = good year overall.

For the season as a whole, we're a little farther ahead than I thought we would be at the beginning of the year. Still lots of problem areas, which is about what I expected. Guys need to learn how to adjust to adversity however and they haven't shown an ability to do that....yet.

Now the real work begins: Taking the next step. I'll say this, everybody coming back better work their tails off during the summer!!!

Now that would be nice...Peterson Events Center is a beautiful facility and I would much prefer to go to Pittsburgh and put up with the Oakland Zoo than deal with Buckeye Fans when making the 2.5 hour trip to C-Bus.

I've never read his posts, so I don't know the history. However, he had the "audacity" to counter the flow of the thread and you called him a "POS fruit"? Wow.

They played three great games this year (Louisville, Illinois here and at Wisconsin) two good ones (Wisconsin here and at Indiana) and a bunch of ordinary to below ordinary ones. They were definitely better than mediocre, but not by much.

They were one game from tying for a 3 or 4 seed, and 2 games from a 2 seed. Basically, holding onto the Michigan game would have tied for the 3/4 in terms of BT W/L.

Also, compared to the past 10 seasons, this was the 2nd best Gopher team in that time; and also arguably the best (compared to the Grier year). That means in terms of Gopher basketball this past decade, it was far from mediocre. They also beat the #1 seed in the tourney on a neutral court, won at Kohl, and were ranked for a few weeks. That's not mediocre. Mediocre was not even a Northwestern U season, mediocre would be something like #170 RPI. The Gophers were about #40.

You remain a fruit. If you keep dissing the kids on the team, you'll remain a POS fruit.

Congratulations guys!

The Gophers overcame some limitations to have their best season in a while.
It was nice to see JAS go out with a solid game and have Big Jon contribute a few good minutes.

No, he's been slamming our team and players throughout about 5 or more threads here, this was the only tame one. Look, anyone can be negative if they want, but when he starts calling out kids by name and calling them essentially worthless, then he deserves the POS label.

My valid argument: We replaced a number of senior players off of last year's team with guys who were playing ball last year in Canada and South Dakota amongst other places. Not one member of the team was all-Big Ten 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team. Its mediocre from the standpoint of viewing every D-I team as equal. Yes - an 8 seed in Big Ten play and yes a weak NC sched. But we were one of the top 64 for the first time in 4 years, beat Louisville, Sconnie 2x and got the Barn buzzing again (were you ever there?)

Next year, if it finishes the same way, its VERY mediocre or more likely a failure.

If you expected a title of some sort this year - this isn't your team. If you can appreciate the growth in the program from where we were at, this is your team.

you are entitled to your opinion, but I would appreciate if you would refrain from taking personal shots

I will, certainly, when you quit taking personal shots at the kids on the team. Deal?

You do realize, don't you, that if not the kids themselves, but friends and family members of those kids likely read this board, right? And if not them, members of the media do. I realize that this is a message board and you're entitled to your own opinion, and it's obvious that you think our players are worthless, but maybe on a public message board that kids or people close to those kids read, directly calling out the kids themselves is something that you could avoid? It's not like any of them didn't play their butts off, which then may be worth the personal callout. Thanks.

This is my team - they did improve, but great or good it is not. They were lucky to get into the tourney losing 7 of last 11. I guess I do have higher expectations. This is my team, do not doubt that.

True they were a mediocre team, but they surely exceeded your expectations?! Good year in terms of expectations, next year I will be expecting more from you, Tubby, with a strong recruiting class and a strong senior class. Go Gophs!!

I give credit to Tubby and staff for getting this team back into the NCAA tournament. It was fun to be back in the discussion of NCAAs and making noise of any type. It's been a while.

But obviously, this team is mediocre in the sense that the team is pretty average RIGHT NOW. Middle tier Big Ten team, 10 seed in the tournament, those are traits of an average team. BUT, the key for us is the fact that almost all of our contributions were from non-seniors, meaning all are coming back, many will be improved basketball players. We had 5 guys who played their first season of Division 1 basketball who were asked to make contributions and they did a decent job of that. The core of the future of this team, meaning take away Westbrook and Johnson, will be around for another two years at least, which is room for growth. We are bringing in a top 15 recruiting class for next season, and will bring in another like 5 or 6 guys for the 2010 class who will fit Tubby's system.

The fact that our future is bright is what makes this a great season, rather than just simply an average or mediocre season. If our team was senior laden, I wouldn't feel nearly as good about what has occured this season.

When did I say they were worthless. If anyone needs to check their conduct it is you cncmin.

Please review the posts

What the hell were your expectations coming into the year?
