Russell Wilson To Sconnie?

DMB = Badger Troll who was a nerd in HS, went to college, smoked pot once and became a big DMB fan. So I'm basically describing 90% of UW students.....

Let's wait and see if he officially ends up at Wisconsin. If he does I'm hoping it messes with the team chemistry and such :).

What?!
He put up good solid numbers and had a nice career at NCSt, but best QB, BTPOY, heisman?
We'll see, wisky's got defensive issues and is going to need the O to play smart football for they're aspirations to come true. Too many INTs/out of the box plays will be trouble for them.
This guy might not even be in madison until late Aug.

It is going to be the deepest and most talented defense since Bielema has been there, without any question.

And that is without counting on one kid that is a freshman and there are some very good freshman in the class.

So you know stars don't mean everything, but you'd rather use those stars from 2007 rather than look at what Wilson has done on the field for three years. Interesting.

75 TD's and 26 interceptions in three years in a BCS conference.

I am pretty sure the stars don't matter any more.

You guys grade in a tough curve. If God was transferring in to play QB for Wisconsin, you guys would find a way to rip him.

How did Jeremiah Masoli work out at Ole Miss last year? Tough to walk in and play well on new team.

And since there were no other transfer QBs in their 1st year that played in the SEC last year, that's the definitive answer.

He doesn't have any eligibility left. And even if he did you just know he'd end up at Notre Dame!

Cam Newton might not agree with you.

Ha ha...damn you and your facts. :) I forgot about Cam. That said, his Heisman chances were greatly improved by the fact that A) he was the primary offensive weapon for the Tigers and B) they were having a MNC season.

Wilson will not be the primary (or likely even the secondary) offensive weapon of his team. That is the point you still haven't attempted to address.

Cam Newton might not agree with you.

He might, but it wouldn't be based off his own experience. He arrived at Auburn in January, not fall camp.

Don't let facts get in your way though.

And this was a fact I wasn't sure of and thus didn't comment on when DMB brought Newton up.

This Heisman stuff is pretty absurd...he wouldn't even be the top candidate on his team...but the guy is a proven QB, who is solid at worst (I believe he was all-conference first team last year). And if you have to walk into an offense at the last minute, there can't be many easier places to go than wi. If the running game works like it's supposed to, he'll basically be out there playing catch with his receivers. I forsee some crazy-effective PA rollouts in their future.

I think this is a very good pickup for Wisconsin and i'm sure Russell will be a good qb in the league, I just think the Badgers run oriented offense will limit Russell's potential a little.

Finally...a well reasoned and thought out response. The Heisman talk is ridiculous for someone playing QB and arriving in August. However, if Russell Wilson does go to Wisconsin, I will hate it because he is an extremely effective, experience QB who would thrive in Paul Chryst's system. If this happens, QB will go from a huge question mark to an area of strength for Wisconsin. That is a rather large upgrade at the most important position on the team.

It will. He wouldn't lead the league in passing yardage, but contrary to what many here think, we still throw the ball a little bit. We had more passing yards than rushing yards last year.

We don't need him to throw for 3500 yds. We need him to complete 65% of his passes, and limit the turnovers. The biggest question everyone has is, 'Can he learn the offense in time?'. Smart kid from a family that really values education. 3 year D1 starter, and has already graduated from NC St. I'm quite confident he can come in and pick things up quickly.

He would, after taking his first snap from center, instantly become the most prolific college passer to play for Wisconsin (or Minnesota if they were in the market for his services), so it is a big deal, but it's not a done deal. I would not be surprised if he ends up at Auburn.

This is what I was trying to get to. Well put.

This will be the big one given the fact that he has a 58% career completion percentage. As others have noted, a strong running game could really help this.

Count me as someone who thinks he would do very well at Wisconsin (I doubt a Heisman trophy though).

But if you asked me to trade Gray for Wilson? There'd be no chance.

He may even continue to play baseball (he wants to go pro in both) as his team has said they likely won't take him back if he leaves and he misses out on some nice money ... which is where Auburn comes into play

Wow. That's a remarkable statement

Will the Badgers outbid Auburn? How much of that 250 k bonus will he be asking for?

If he does go to Wiscky, will the other QBs feelings be hurt and will they want to transfer? I hope they pay him what he wants and I hope he screws up their team chemistry.

That is a bold (crazy) statement. I love Gray's potential and can't wait to see if he becomes the star I think he can be, but Wilson is already a star.

I keep trying to be nice in my reply as to why not to take him. I'll try. Bottom line is this. If someone does take him, it clearly sends the wrong message and goes against everything coaches preach to lure high school kids to your school.

Funny, commin' from a Fadger...

You have no idea if Wilson's a prima donna, if he can mesh with what's there, or can even read.
We know Gray has meshed, become a leader, and shown a true willingness to work.
We all throw Newton's name around, but what about Mitch Mustain? It was guaranteed that he was going to step in at USC with only a true freshman to beat out and lead them to several championships...How did that work out? Oh yeah, he ended up third string, then second the next year, then he sold drugs to an undercover cop.
First, let's see if the Fadgers get him in. Second, see if he gets the top spot. Third, can handle throwing the ball between 10-15 times without trying to overdo the routes trying to make an impact on every play.
We will see who works out better. They are both popcorn in the pan, and only time will tell.

I'm not saying he can't or won't do well if he chooses the Badgers. I'm saying that expecting anything other than solid QB play from him is expecting too much.

At this point, solid QB play from the Badger quarterback is almost beyond my wildest dreams. The "almost" is there only because I have seen Chryst work his magic before.

With any luck you'll be dreaming a while longer. ;)

Wilson

He's good, evidently sufficiently smart to have already graduated, played in a pro-style system under Tom O'Brien at NCSU and damned near every Wolfpack fan I've read speaks of his humble, well-spoken demeanor.

He wouldn't have to generate the same numbers as he did in Raleigh-just the same effectiveness. It's really always about the efficiency of a Q.B. anyway. If we run well, Wilson will have ample opportunity to pass effectively.

Chryst has a complex system but he's had a similarly skilled Q.B. in the past with Tyler Donovan. Chryst would also likely have to dumb-down his offense a tad for any first-year starter-including Budmayer. Biggest question is when Wilson could arrive in Madison
