Devoe Joseph Sucks!

It really amazes me how much people "think" they know about Devoe! I ask....would you want a player on the team who DIDNT WANT MORE MINUTES OR TO TAKE MORE SHOTS? Would you want someone who was comfortable sitting on the bench?? I wouldnt. I would want someone who was competitive and WANTED TO PLAY. For the posters who say Blake is better than Devoe I dont think you would be saying that is Devoe didnt transfer! We all know Devoe is not a great on the ball defender...but he sure as hell is better than Blake. And I really disagree with those who say he was not a great off the ball defender either...imo. I said this before, I'd really like to know how many current players are envious that Devoe had the b*lls to transfer.....all you diehard fans might be surprised by the answer!

1. Blake's numbers exceeded Mr. Joseph in almost every offensive category for all of Mr. Joseph's Gopher career.

2. I believe through Tubby's actions it is fair to assume he thought Blake's defense was better than Mr. Joseph's. In the field of basketball I will take Tubby's opinion over yours.

3. I hope we don't have anyone on the team that thinks it is courageous to quit on his teammates in the middle of a season.

So I guess that would mean your speculation about Devoe is wrong too? Can't have it both ways my friend.

In addition, many things that were first posted on Gopherhole over the past 7-8 years ended up being true...so you can't say these sites are always "wrong."

What was my speculation sir? My speculation is that we haven't heard the whole story. As far as I know, that is correct. At least more correct than academics or drugs. Especially since Tubby recommended Devoe to the Oregon coach.

he was never busted for pot twice! quit making sh*t up.

he didnt quit on the team, he transferred. this happens all the time when kids are homesick, unhappy, new coach etc etc etc. many of you are pissed off and have decided to just blame devoe for the misfortunes of this team. i have ripped blake quite a bit, mainly because so many of you fanatics praise him as if he is the best player in the big ten, but also because he is so over-rated it makes my stomach hurt. devoe was unhappy because his situation changed with tubby, probably a lot of devoes fault but also a lot of tubbys fault. devoe was in a tough spot, if he played the way he has always played he gets taken out, if he plays within the system and is scoring he gets taken out. never understand why tubby subs the hot hand so much with his big rotations? im not saying devoe was innocent by any means because i think tubby has handled a few players poorly, but you people saying he sucks and ripping him just because he left is sad.

last season during the big ten tourney, many of you were all on his bandwagon wondering how amazing we would be with him and royce. now you hate him and are going to keep making threads of how bad this individual sucks after its already over? move on!

I don't hate him. I think we had a chance at a top three Big Ten run with him. Without him, not so much. Add losing Al and we are close to being toast. For that, I am pissed at him for leaving. Transferring because he wasn't getting enough shots = quitting. Simple as that.

Transfering mid season and losing a 'half season' of eligibility in the process is called quiting. If he transfered at the end of the season or could play imediately at Oregon one could call it transfering(for reasons of better fit).

I don't care what Devoe smoked or didn't, what his gpa was, whether he deserved to be benched, starting or washing Blake's jockstrap or who was a bigger ass...him or Tubby. I only care that he quit on his team, his school and his fans....period.

Transfer mid-year = quit on his team and fans.

You're wrong. I hate to pull this card, but I know people in the know, and yes, he got busted for pot twice...this year. The most recent incident came after his first suspension.

I always thought Devoe was a really good player with potential, I'm sad to see him go, but I don't hate him. Best of luck to him. Moving on...

No, transferring does not equal quitting.

Paul Carter did not quit
Justin Cobbs did not quit

Transferring in the middle of a season, however, IS quitting (IMO)

Royce White quit
Devoe Joseph quit
Lary Drew II quit
Wally Judge quit

This isn't meant to be a personal attack on Devoe at all, it is just my personal interpretation of what transfering mid season means.

I would rather he quit mid season than be pissed off and unhappy and give half effort. if any of our players are unhappy with the coach and are seriously thinking about transferring, its going to effect the team a lot worse. he leaves the team better off by not sticking around and being forced into something he doesn't want to do. some of you need to coach high school kids and see what it is like to watch an unhappy kid who doesn't want to be there perform half ass. it drags the team down lower than if he didn't show up at all. I hope devoe clears his head, finishes school, and is a productive member of society.

Don't you think there just MAY be a third option? Like suck it up and give 100% realizing you are lucky to be playing the game you love at a high level for free?

This is the stuff I hate. If you are going to accuse someone of something have the guts to say why. The "i know someone in the know" crap is just that. We found that out during the coach search when everyone was wrong. Everyone including those "in the know". Please just stop. Tubby tried to keep Devoe here. Once he made his mind up he call the Oregon coach to recommend Devoe. Who recommends a kid with 2 failed drug tests?

Devoe rarely played within the system. And of course Tubby would take Devoe out of the game if he played they way "he always had." The way "he always had played" was not Tubby's style. Devoe routinely took a handful of ill-advised shots per game. He would run down without any rebounders and attempt his patented fade-away-wasted-possession-17ft shot. Shots 3 seconds into the shot clock with a hand in your face in not what I would define as "in Tubby's system."

Devoe didn't fit, nor did he want to change his game. He was bigger than the coach, the team and the University. Plain and simple.

BTW: Stop trying to fight the drug accusations. Devoe was guilty. I know this for a fact.

You're probably right. Much better to have Nolen waste 32 seconds casually dribbling 30 ft from the rim, only to watch somebody force up a hurried, patented no-chance-wasted-possession 22ft shot. Or better yet, turn the ball over after 22 seconds of useless passing and get no shot at all.

It'd be terrible to have your 1st or 2nd most talented offensive player take a shot before Nolen has a chance to slow the game up.

People have been complaining about the half court offense since Tubby got here, yet those same people invent accusations about Joseph and the half court offense every time Joseph's name comes up. Every time some player, commenter or Tubby himself says 'we've got to push the ball more' everyone here says 'hell yes,' but the first time Joseph actually DID that very thing, Tubby yanked him from the game and everyone here sang hosannas.

By the way, please share with us how you know the drug accusation(s) are "fact." Settle the debate, please.

your a dbag and your wrong! your making sh*t up and you sound like a a**hole! devoe was recruited because of his abilities and his style of play. good coaches get the most out of their talent, they don't change the player! also devoe had a nice shooting percentage for all of his out of control shots.

did any of you see the basketball experts show on espn? andy katz and others didn't have many good things to say about mr. joseph. katz down right ripped him for his actions. to transfer away from the program is one thing but to quit on the team half way through is wrong. like the panel said, whats going to keep this kid from quitting on everything else he has to face the rest of his life.
 

He violated team rules by smoking weed, you don't have to be in the know to know this.
