All Things 2026 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Justin Toppa didn’t fool them today

Also Royce Lewis looks like a clown wearing neon shoes and elbow sleeves. You’re batting .176 and are 2 bad years from being out of baseball. How about blending in a little bit.

In his defense, he’s getting into character for his Savanna Bananas audition🤷‍♂️

ESPN grades for April:

Minnesota Twins: D+

A four-game sweep at home against Detroit in early April got the Twins off to a nice start but then came a 3-13 stretch to drop them six games under .500. There have been some positives: Taj Bradley has been the Twins' best starter, Austin Martin keeps drawing walks and getting on base, and Mick Abel had back-to-back scoreless starts before landing on the IL with what the Twins say is minor elbow inflammation. But the bullpen has been a mess and will undermine whatever chances they might have to make the playoffs -- not exactly a surprise considering they traded Jhoan Duran, Louis Varland and Griffin Jax, their three top relievers, last year at the trade deadline.

Win Twins!!

Tigers will get nothing for him now. I guess a supplemental draft pick when he signs with the Yankees.
yes, and I was wondering how much it’ll cost him and if someone gets an amazing deal if they sign him to a long term deal.

Or if maybe he signs a one year deal when healthy as a prove it year🤷‍♂️

Update -

MINNEAPOLIS – Top Twins prospect Walker Jenkins is going to be out for a while.

Jenkins, the No. 11 prospect in baseballaccording to MLB Pipeline, suffered a grade 2 AC joint sprain in his left shoulder when he ran into the outfield wall making a catch on Sunday. Jenkins will be re-evaluated in 10 days, at which point the club will have a clearer read on a timeline for the outfielder’s return.

It’s another in a list of setbacks for Jenkins, who has yet to play more than 84 games in a professional season. Jenkins got off to a slow start at the plate but had been coming on recently, and overall has a .256/.396/.389 line for Triple-A St. Paul in 111 plate appearances. He hit .286/.399/.451 across four levels (including lower-level rehabilitation assignments) in 2025.

In addition, a club official said that there will not be an update on injured ace Joe Ryan until Tuesday. Ryan was removed from Sunday’s win against the Blue Jays after two batters due to right elbow soreness. He did travel with the team to Washington for the start of its road trip, the official said.

The lack of news on Ryan is disconcerting as it majes me think he’s injured for realz

Strong chance Supplemental Draft Picks vanish in a new CBA.

Right but I assume it would not be retroactive.

Depends on how the Skubal camp plays it with the CBA expiring on 12/1/2026.

In the 2021/22 Off-season there were some that signed pre-Lockout, but others that waited until after the agreement was reached in March, like Correa.

Both Correa and Skubal are Boras clients.

The reliever the Twins received in exchange for Varland posted an ERA of 0.00.

Sounds like Minnesota has the upper hand in the deal so far. Plus Rojas is a Lefty. Bonus!

I'm not a lawyer but I can't imagine they would treat free agents who sign before December 1 differently than those who sign after. I would imagine any change to free agency/draft pick rules would apply to the 2027 offseason.

I don't disagree, but it could just as easily result in No/Voided Compensatory Picks for any Free Agents that sign in the short window before the CBA expires.

No law degree required. It will be whatever is bargained for between the Owners & MLBPA.

I really hope that actually use lawyers.

Wait...screw lawyers, they're all crooks. Just put the owners in a room with some players from each team, turn up the heat, lock the doors, provide them with a massive amount of beef sticks, beer and bourbon, and no bathroom. It'll get resolved just fine.

This seems too good to be true that Ryan may not have completely tanked his Trade Value:

Twins’ Joe Ryan hopeful to avoid injured list after leaving game with sore elbow

The righthander threw only nine pitches in his start Sunday before he called for a trainer. He played catch Tuesday and planned to throw a bullpen session the next day.

Screw that. With Skubal out, let's go win the AL Central at 82-80!

The righthander threw only nine pitches in his start Sunday before he called for a trainer. He played catch Tuesday and planned to throw a bullpen session the next day.

After clean MRI, Joe Ryan resumes throwing, could make next start as scheduled

WASHINGTON — First, Anthony Edwards miraculously returned early for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, it appears Joe Ryan could follow in his footsteps.

Two days after he walked off the mound with right elbow soreness, the Minnesota Twins pitcher played catch at Nationals Park on Tuesday afternoon and was cleared to throw a bullpen the following day. If all goes well in Wednesday’s session, Ryan will make his next scheduled start when the Twins play the Cleveland Guardians later this week.

The Twins put their plan in motion after Ryan received a clean MRI showing no structural damage, and he was later cleared by the team’s training and medical staffs.

“It’s relief,” Twins manager Derek Shelton said. “The eternal pessimist in me is saying I’m going to wait until we get through (Wednesday) and go. But (Tuesday) was a really good sign because he threw well after having a conversation with him. He was able to throw his breaking balls and didn’t feel anything. We had an MRI. There was no structural damage. Once you hear all those things, it makes you feel better, especially when it came after two hitters on Sunday. But overall, we’re trending in the right direction.”

When Ryan walked off the mound after nine pitches Sunday, panic set in for the organization and its fans. Only 11 weeks earlier, Pablo López similarly walked off the mound in the middle of a Feb. 16 throwing session and signaled for the training staff, just as Ryan did when facing the Toronto Blue Jays. In that case, an MRI showed López had a torn ulnar collateral ligament and would require season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Ryan struck out the first batter he faced Sunday and then started to feel something unusual during a six-pitch walk of Toronto’s Kazuma Okamoto. Rather than continue pitching, Ryan signaled to the dugout, and from there, he, Shelton and athletic trainer Nick Paparesta decided to end the outing.

Before long, Ryan was in an MRI machine. He received the positive results before the end of the game and then waited for a consultation with team doctor Chris Camp, where he received further reassurance.

“I didn’t feel too much discomfort,” Ryan said. “You never know. The injuries I’ve had in the past have kind of been — it wasn’t this excruciating pain or anything crazy, and then I’ve been optimistic on the other side and had bad results. This time around, having good results definitely was obviously a win-win and reassuring. You never know until the imaging comes back.”

Shelton praised Ryan for being in tune with his body highly enough to understand something was off. Shortly after López suffered his injury in February, Ryan sensed lower back tightness and delayed his first start of the spring for more than two weeks. The 2025 All-Star also knew almost immediately that something was awry during an August 2024 incident and immediately left the game with an injury that resulted in a Grade 2 teres major strain that cost Ryan 49 games.

Even as relieved as they currently feel, the Twins will be mindful of Ryan.

“There will be a watchful eye,” Shelton said. “The first thing you want with any of your players, or especially your pitchers, is if they feel something, especially in their arm, we want them to communicate it. We want to make sure we’re not going to put him in harm’s way. We will carefully monitor this situation. The one really great thing about Joe is he is probably in tune with his body as any player I’ve ever been around. He can articulate really well what he’s feeling. … We will be very aware.”

The positive news on Ryan comes one day after Edwards stunned the NBA with a quick return from a bone bruise and hyperextended left knee he suffered in the Timberwolves’ opening playoff round. Originally expected to miss weeks, Edwards returned after nine days and scored 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting as Minnesota topped the heavily favored San Antonio Spurs 104-102 in Game 1 on Monday.

Ryan ruled out that Edwards’ showing provided extra motivation, but he loved the performance.

“That was pretty fun to watch,” Ryan said. “What a beast.”

Ryan hopes to be back on the mound this weekend in Ohio. If the Twins kept their rotation in order, Ryan would be scheduled to pitch Saturday at Progressive Field.

Ryan is confident in the plan the Twins established. He emerged from Tuesday’s session feeling good and is optimistic about Wednesday.

“Make sure everything feels good (Wednesday) on the mound, and that’s the main focus,” Ryan said. “Any time, yeah, you dodge a bullet there, you just are grateful for every day you get to come in and put the jersey. … It just felt good to be here.”

Apologies Mr. Larnach as you’ve gone to another level in your career at this point, with a gaudy .295 avg and improved defense. Kudos as I’ve always loved your sweet left hand stroke.

I thought resigning you was inane and it wasn’t.
