Transfer Portal 2026

I can’t see any team giving that much to one player. If you do, better make sure you’re getting to the final four. Imagine if she came to the Gophers for a year and gets them to the elite 8. Imagine her stock then.
They get a team that competes for the BIG, fans will pile in. It’s just getting the top recruits to by in.
That'd be foolish, though. They'd have to get a really good center, a good backup center and hope no one gets seriously injured. If all that happened, they could make the Elite 8 at best.

McGill is really good, but she cannot shoot for beans. She also turns it over a lot. She's no Bueckers.

I can see a University that's Christian in Texas doing it. But your're right, I think they're on a mission to buy their way to a Final Four or better one of these years.

Put some more faith in this team.

Yeah. It’s just a ton of money; but, what do I know lol. When you grab a team of transfers and they all want the ball it can hurt team dynamics. One thing for MN we have a ton of returners. That will go along way IMO.

If I am a player on a team and a portal kid comes in and makes $1.5mil... I'm giving them the ball... tell to play all the positions... go sit on the bench, collect my $50000 in NIL and watch her play. Heck, I might even tell her to 'spin her head'!

Oh, I don't agree with it, and I agree, it would almost certainly disrupt team chemistry and dynamics. When you're playing that game TCU does, bringing in highly paid transfers each year, you can't really stop. I like our system better. Its more sustainable and less dependent on who you can buy for a year each portal cycle.

Always nice to cheer for a team that doesn't make this list. 😉

If memory serves me correctly, Gov Jesse Ventura proposed the following:
1. Four years pay-to-play. No classroom, only playing sports preparing them for professional sports.
2. If the athlete wasn't good enough to turn pro, then Plan B. Universities should then offer scholarships.

He had many reasons for his proposal.

So my info is from Skim Milkey and she has been killing it with correct transfer info. She does not believe Liv will get that number however. She also says Agara also wants 1.5, so the Hopkins girls want to get paid
I'm ok with paying a surcharge on my season tickets for WBB NIL, if the U reaches out and says, hey we need a fee from season ticket holders, probably will do a gift to DTA this year, but I prefer all the money be spread around to all the players. I don't think MN can afford to invest all the pool in to just 1 to 2 players without creating a giant rift. I get the Hopkins gals are premium, top level, top notch players, but can't have College players asking more than WNBA pros, and the whole coaching staff. I'm assuming we have a GM type and someone that works with representatives. With success comes more cost so i'm ready for the scholarship or extra charges like my other Gopher tickets for WBB. It's the market of college sports, you want to be in the game I suppose we all have to pony up. We already have the extra charge in Hockey, Football, MBB, probably will need to add to WBB once the base is 5,000 or more.

100% agreement!

If being a big spender was a sure fire answer to success, the Yankees last WS crown wouldn’t have been in 2009.

I'm not so patiently waiting for some big transfer news. This program is right on the precipice of doing some great things consistently. It's even more exciting having our core group composed of MN talent.
That's what excites me too. Putting a great team on the court each year that wins and is entertaining to watch do so. I do know that Star Tribune piece on McKinney said her mom says she wants a title, though, so she's set her sites a bit higher than me.

Think Dodgers.

Thanks for making my point stronger; Dodgers have the been amongst the highest payroll recently and won (but not every year), but there were numerous years from 2009 till now that the Yankees did - so while it can work, it’s not sure fire🤷‍♂️. Steve Cohen the Mets owner has found out the hard way you just can’t automatically buy a championship the last couple of seasons also.

It’s like obsessing over someone who has a nicer car/house in your neighborhood -it makes no sense and there’s another person whose got it better than your white Whale.

Comparison is the thief of joy😃

Although money can bring opportunity. The Dodgers have been in 5 WWS in the last 10 years.

Not me refreshing on3 recruiting to see any Gopher updates lol - I wonder if others will be visiting this weekend with Lana.
Yah, I saw that free On3 article by Kane Rob where he named off 15 possibilities in honor of the #15 ranking. I followed him on Twitter and he tweeted and said one of the names now had a visit. But he didn't say who. Assuming that is Lana but maybe not.

You're correct.

Per Skim Milkey Rashunda Jones going to ASU

Iowa has 3 players visiting (one I would consider a top tier player)

True, but would be nice to make the list in a different way. Note he included 2 that already transferred in the Top 20. So would be nice to have as listed as a "Transferred To"

Sounds like Rutgers landed the Tennessee twins - the BIG will be loaded next year again.

Catching up here...just noticed that Jordan Ode (Maple Grove class of 2025; Miss Basketball; redshirted her first season at Michigan State) is in the transfer portal but hasn't been mentioned here. Any thoughts? I would think she would be a prime candidate to come home.

Illinois grabbed LSU transfer Divine Bourrage a former 5 star.

It's been mentioned a number of times on a few threads :) Ode would be a great get; but, also depends what the staff is looking for with the three open spots.
