Transfer Portal 2026

Of course, the UCLA sites are all over this as being a great fit for them.

Technically there were 5 Gophers. Jordan Brooks and Tracy Bershears also went to the portal, but I suppose that means they exhausted whatever "eligibility" Dawn was willing to offer them here. Then you forgot Mallory.
No disrespect to any of the transfers, but everyone left because they weren't good enough to get the minutes they desired. That's what you want as a program.

Not really. The are maximizing their value. Not all will be able to but that is their goal. There are power conference teams that need 12+ players.

Texas’s two players that showed promise in the final four are in the portal. They will get paid.

"Make hay while the sun shines."

The weather always changes...

Not a true point guard, but Jordan Speiser from Kansas State is in the portal.

“The Warrenton, Missouri, native finished her freshman season averaging 9.6 points and 3.2 rebounds, while shooting 35.3% from deep. She broke out late in the season and shone during the Wildcats' Big 12 Tournament run. During the four-game run, in which the Wildcats surprisingly made the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, she averaged 15.8 points and shot 48.5% from deep.”

The players that have transferred from the Gophers the last two years may be "maximizing their value" but they left for playing time

I'd say more go for playing time than for money. Some go for the prestige of playing at the highest level they can.

Former Gopher Mckenna Johnson is back in the portal after a coaching change at Butler.

Would we have a interest in her teammate Mallory Miller 6'4 big stretch big with passing ability from Aberdeen, SD? She started at AZ state. Maybe if we strike out on the other centers?

Agree. But, some go to play for teams that have winning records and a chance at championships and tournaments. The Gopher women BB program is now in a great position where a transfer or recruit will likely play on a winning team and in the NCAA Tournament.

Rumored asking price for McGill is 1.5 million. Would guess that knocks the gophers out (small chance either way)

I'm liking the recent Women Gopher social media account strategy of all the Minnesota players highlighting why they wanted to play here ad how other Minnesotans could win and do great things here too. Meanwhile, Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice's moms are tweeting at top players online telling them how nice Southern California is to live and play bball.

Hard for a college kid to turn that down; but, also if your a star and go to a program you will have tons of oppourtunities to earn media and local/brand sponsorships.

Hard pass

Imagine that creates a huge imbalance on the team and could create hard feelings. Plus, players on the roster who have multiple seasons of eligibility left, might not want to give any type of hometown discount the following season.

I think it’s different if they’re recruited as a freshman.

I really appreciate the insights!

Since we won’t be swapping a Hopkins grad point guard for another, how about swapping one NC State post transfer with another?! Tulsa Tryyger is a 6’6” post in the portal that averaged 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds. From Sweden. Reminds me I want to grab lunch at the Swedish Institute in S. Mpls this week. 😅

Our last Swedish post, Amanda Zahui B., turned out pretty great!

Do we have the coins for her? She was offered 400k last year to leave NC state.

I have a hard time believing there are more than a handful of WBB programs throwing that kinda money around for a single player
So my info is from Skim Milkey and she has been killing it with correct transfer info. She does not believe Liv will get that number however. She also says Agara also wants 1.5, so the Hopkins girls want to get paid

The U generated $1.6m in revenue for WBB in 2025, so the ROI necessary to justify adding a player at anything near that cost.... just doesn't seem plausible

I can’t see any team giving that much to one player. If you do, better make sure you’re getting to the final four. Imagine if she came to the Gophers for a year and gets them to the elite 8. Imagine her stock then.
They get a team that competes for the BIG, fans will pile in. It’s just getting the top recruits to by in.
