2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

Gotta suck for Utah fans. I’m sure they assumed he was just retiring. A great hire for Michigan but also probably a short one. Willingham is 66.

This would have been a great hire no matter when they made it. Given the timing, it's outstanding.
A Morman kid through and through who has never coached the last 40 years outside the state of Utah or southern Idaho, Morman strongholds .... is going to up and go across the country to clean up Michigan in extremely liberal Ann Arbor?

Hmm ...

Maybe he consults the Romneys? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have a news flash for you. Mormon people live all over the country and do just fine.

It will be cool to see how a great operator like Whittingham is able to do with those resources. I assume Harbaugh levels without the circus.
Could be true.
Although Harbaugh was on thin ice in 2020 and wittingham has had 3+ losses in 18/20 non covid seasons as head coach.

For context Ohio state has had 3+ losses once since 2009

I’m curious to see what he does and assume he can put up 9-3 with regularity. I don’t think winning 10+ every year is a given or that easy even for Michigan.

That does not surprise me.

I'm shocked he actually wanted the job. Maybe a good nest egg to retire on, if nothing else. Or maybe a three quarter's life crisis.

Think he was pushed out for the coach in waiting to take over.
Pushed out ... to Michigan?

This all makes about as much sense as Wisconsin hiring Gary Andersen.

Who by the way did pretty well there ... in the two years he was there, before quitting.

They ran out of alcohol in Ann Arbor, so he had to move along.

What's a Morman?

What is a legitimate opportunity to win a Natty before he retires? - Ken.
