YES YES YES!!! Post Game Thread: Gophers Get Big Win Over Rutgers!

He looks like he’ll be a very nice player

Good thing Arkansas football isn’t especially attractive.
The likely coaching change at Arkansas probably does play in our favor because if there is one place I would worry about him leaving for it would be Arkansas with all his family connections to the school.

You never know with players these days but Drake feels like a great fit here at Minnesota on a lot of levels so hopefully he is happy here and wants to stick it out to rewrite the record book.

Good post. I wouldn't care how much my Grandpa is worth. At 18-19 years old, if someone is offering me $3-5M of what would be my own money, I'm taking a listen. It's the reality we're all dealing with in college athletics moving forward IMO.

Lindsey by all accounts has a very good relationship with PJ so I remain hopeful. He's a special talent.

Yeah, it’s also pretty rare for pro athletes to take “huge” pay cuts to help out a team although one can find some examples. Brady eg (hearsay) took an under market salary for some time but his private services company also supposedly had a sweetheart deal with Kraft, or so the story goes. Nothing would surprise.

Maybe the U is now a minority investor is some real estate ventures 😝🙃 j/k

It’s definitely a deeper wr group, maybe not the top end talent that we’ve seen some years, but probably the deepest group once you look at the third/fourth guy. The wr recruiting has been pretty disappointing post Bateman. I really thought we’d excel there with Fleck’s track record with the position. Maybe it will pick up with a legit QB in place.
I agree, with the exception of Daniel Jackson. I thought he was an excellent college WR who got better every year, ran exceptional routes, and caught almost everything. I am actually slightly postively surprised at the new WR group post Spencer and Jones.

Jackson?

Only complaint late in the game:

TACKLING

If we made 1:1 tackles on that late drive I don't think Rutgers is even in FG range. Thankfully didn't matter.

Missed tackles have become an issue again....hopefully they can get that cleaned up. Rutgers RB is solid but we had some chances to bring him down for little to no gain on a number of plays if not for the missed tackles.

think this is a really large PJ adjustment. he loves tressel ball with high clock control, low possession games where you play slow tempo and run over teams. some teams are built for that, most are not and we for the last 2 years have not. Lindsey in tempo is really a thing of beauty (obviously this is harder say on the road at the Horseshoe)

Exactly. We know the kind of offense Fleck likes to have but we've now seen (last year with Max and this year with Drake) that he's willing to give up that preference when he realizes that's not likely to work with what he has available. We got punched in the face by CAL and OSU and Oregon are almost certain losses so if we want to do the best we can with what we got we just have to give the ball to Drake and let him go.

I agree that Lindsey in rhythm was great to see and the Rutgers game was our first chance to really see that.
