@GopherWeatherGuy. My house in Austin TX just got hit with a storm that registered 84.5 dBZ. Have you ever heard of such a high value? I didn't think that was really possible. One of the neighbors says 2.85" of rain in 12 minutes.

Wow what a wild storm. I have never heard of such a high value, I'm sure it's the highest or one of the highest ever. 80 is about as high as it goes.

We just got back from a long family road trip vacation and drove by London, KY on our way back. London had a massive EF-4 tornado hit this spring. It must have been the day after this graphic depicts.

I’ve never seen anything like it. Blocks of neighborhoods just completely gone.
 

We have some family friends that are at Glacier NP right now. The higher elevations of the park could get 2+ feet of snow this weekend.
 

Ugghhh... Tooling around Aberdeen yesterday, picking up some things for the house and getting a bite. 90 degrees and 60-75% humidity. Just absolutely miserable. I'll take 105 degrees in the desert any day of the week over this ridiculousness.

I can take a few days here and there of the heat. We just got back from a long road trip for a wedding in North Carolina. I lived in NC for 3 years a long time ago and it reminded me of how consistently it is hot there. The constant 90 and humid heat really got old.
 



Lightning-lit screenshot of supercell as it was producing one of the large tornadoes near Enderlin, ND. My bro-in-law is from that town and they really dodged a bullet. Tornadoes likely occurred to their SW, E and NE. This thing just went nuts as the squall line was enveloping it.

Yeah I’ve seen a lot about that storm. A few people died.

The details of this storm and its impact are awful.

Per the AP:

Crews searched through the dark early Saturday for two dozen children from a girls’ camp and many others who were still missing after a wall of water rushed down a river in the Texas Hill Country during a powerful storm that killed at least 24 people. The death toll was certain to rise.

The destructive fast-moving waters along the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet (8 meters) in just 45 minutes before dawn Friday, washing away homes and vehicles. The danger was not over as more heavy rains were expected Saturday and flash flood warnings and watches remained in effect for parts of central Texas.

Authorities are coming under increasing scrutiny over whether the camp and others in the area received proper warning and whether enough preparations were made.

Searchers used helicopters, boats and drones to look for victims and to rescue stranded people. The total number of missing was not known but one sheriff said about 24 of them were girls who had been attending Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along the river.

Damn air quality alert extended to Monday.

Some fine summer days ... ruined. Am I crazy or are more and more of our summer days being ruined by Canadian wildfire smoke??

I know they'll never be able to eliminate it ... but they could be spending more money and effort to fight it.

Maybe it's time the US sued Canada over this crap?? I'm getting fed up!

Well, when the Orange Leader annexes Canada we can work to put out the fires.

I was just up in the Canadian Rockies and the news outlets were reporting a group of Albertans who want to leave Canada and become their own independent country. They had "Make Alberta Great Again" hats.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has confirmed that a 515-mile-long "megaflash" of lightning in 2017 is a new world record.

The flash, a term for lightning inside a cloud that does not hit the ground, moved from northern Texas into Missouri and was part of a Mesoscale Convective System, a large complex of thunderstorms, on Oct. 22, 2017. This new lightning flash beats the previous record of 477 miles set by a flash on April 29, 2020.

Although the new lightning flash is older than the previous record-holders, it was only recently discovered and is one of the first megaflashes observed by NOAA's GOES-16 satellite, which has made detailed information like this available to scientists for almost 10 years.
