All Things 2025 Minnesota Timberwolves Off-Season Thread

There are quite a few reports from credible NBA sources that PHO considers the offer from MIN to be the best by a wide margin.

The deal is centered around Gobert, DDV and Dilly for KD and the Suns are trying to convince him to reconsider going to MIN.

Who would play C? What are we doing at PG? This type of move would create more issues than it would solve. Weird stuff if true.
this would be an extremely wtf move

Guess we'd be changing identity quite a bit into more a run and gun kind of team if you're making that move with 5 guys who can shoot (would assume they'd try keep Randle and Naz if doing this) and multiple guys who can create/get their own

I think KD ends up at a team not mentioned yet, like Orlando or the Clippers as a one year rental, like Khawii was in Toronto

Per Shama:

Who do the Timberwolves select at No. 17 of the first round in next week’s NBA Draft in Brooklyn? It could be a center and the suggestion here is a sleeper pick in 7-foot-1 Ryan Kalkbrenner from Creighton.

There is speculation the Wolves could be interested in moving on from center Rudy Gobert, their soon to be 33-year-old center who is not only aging but carries a burdensome reported salary of $35 million for next season. The Wolves front office and ownership are sensitive to payroll and face an offseason where forwards Julius Randle and Naz Reid can opt for free agency.

Finding a trade partner willing to take Gobert could bring future draft picks to the Wolves and/or add veteran talent to the roster. The dream acquisition, of course, is a deal perhaps involving Gobert and bringing Suns superstar forward Kevin Durant to Minneapolis. Such a move would give the Wolves two elite and difficult to defend scorers in Durant and guard Anthony Edwards.

Howl Wolves!!

Kalkbrenner is closely compared to Walker Kessler as a solid rim protector and rebounder but lacks athleticism. I think there's a strong chance he's still available at 31.

I'm rooting for Walter Clayton Jr because he can flat out shoot the ball, is a good athlete, can run an offense and is a solid defender. I expect us to move on from NAW and wouldn't be surprised if DDV is part of a trade. He could help replace their minutes and provide PG insurance if Dillingham ends up being a dud.

Well, the wolves wouldn't trade for him if he doesn't sign an extension.

This is the best thing ever.
I don't want a 37 year old who plays 50 games a year signing a one week extension.

We are already stuck with Rudy for way, way too long. Everybody talks about how Rudy cut the wolves a break. Who else was going to give a 32 year old who does one thing that can't be easily replaced $105M in a severely restrictive CBA environment?

The guy I want at 17 or 31 is Hansen Yang. He looks like he has big upside.

I think Gobert is going to be gone.

Here’s a lengthy report on him.

Durant to the Rockets?

I'd be curious to know what our best actual offer was. The rumors about Gobert being included in the offer never made any sense to me.

A lot of inefficient chuckers that play no defense getting moved the last couple of days:

Simons to BOS
McCollum to WAS
Poole to NO

With how the draft fell, I am greatly disappointed in that pick
Who'd you prefer?

I cringed looking at his stats in the mocks. There was talk of us wanting him.

I really think Tim Connelly is the guy of guys in the draft room. His track record is phenomenal.

I take a lot of comfort from that.

A guard who can play pick and roll and score or a guy to fill the Randle role (forward who can play the 4 and get their own from time to time) if he’s not back
Jakucionis or Clayton Jr would’ve been fine for the former (or even Will Riley)
Wolf for the latter
This guy is not going to be projected to play really all that much (one would imagine) unless they’ve gotten wind Naz and/or Randle aren’t back and we’re taking a step back

I'd be wiling to bet we don't see this guy play for a year. Can they stil stash em in Europe?

And Jakucionis is someone I'd echo. I'd didn't see much of Clayton.

No one they picked at 17 was going to play much at all.

Pick 17 is a crap shoot.

Most first rounders will bust.

hell, roll the dice. My complaint with the wolves is they have slow feet and don't get to the ball well. This guy has quick feet. He moves well. I like the roll of the dice.

The fact we didn't go guard may mean they like dillingham.

or, there is a point guard trade in the works.

Sexton has been talked about to the wolves. Utah drafted Conley jr. right after us.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I really hope they like Dillingham.

A guy already on your roster is always ideal. And he does have some tools.

I just saw a tweet that stated he is not a stash player. Expect him in a Wolves uniform next season.
Interesting.

I guess anyone that can rely on “quick feet” after only 3 years of basketball to beat pros has something to him.

Sounds like he has the athletic skills and not the total basketball package yet.

If they really like dilly, finch’s minutes for him are mind boggling

Note: I really like dilly. I’m hoping he plays about double the minutes he did this year next year (he is the key to us getting better if the rosters stays pat)

The two Brooklyn picks might be interesting to the Wolves. Wolf is still around....
