All things Players Coming and Going.

UND enters the McKenna discussion. Christ.
it changes every single week my dude (and his agent still has said they're waiting until post draft to make some choices, which I'd envision is also because it let's him see where others end up at/who he'd play with). at this point, it may be best for you to take the summer off.

And yet, Minnesota is not in any of the discussions.

People always say draft picks don't win titles and it's true but they don't seem to realize the number of first round picks in college hockey is exploding now and it will matter more. And the Gophers don't even have one and not even a 2nd rounder.

hold on, lemme go create a twitter to tweet something about McKenna to MN.

No one knows at this point. Remember that fun time we were supposedly in the running for Misa based on twitter?

Yup that was fun before we realized none of the top players want to come here

Combine info.

Hagens says he’s ready for the nhl. We’ll see if he’s back pending who drafts him

additional combine stuff
Apparently Carter Bear has said loyalty is important to him, which many take as he would not come play NCAA hockey. I guess was a question that was asked to multiple guys at the combine. Will be curious to see if it impacts what any additional players do this fall

McKenna down to MSU and PSU. Yay. Incoming denial comments.
there have been about 20 twitter posts about him committing to PSU, having a top 5 of ASU, Harvard, PSU, MSU and Princeton, and a whole bunch of crap.

Ryder Ritchie just committed to BU. So I'd put as more likely he ends up there

BU is going to be really good but I worry about you getting your hopes too high. What if by some chance the Gophs knock them out in a regional? You don’t seem to handle disappointment too well.
Cool dream but not going to happen. BU out skilled, out worked and out coached the Gophers at basically a home regional two years ago. This BU team will be better and this Gopher team will not be great.

Watching Close give up a pair of muffins right in front of me, not sure I agree with your take on the game in SF other than that they were more skilled than us.
Further, I'm sure that's exactly what you would've said about MSU last year. Joy of a 1 and done.

5 star 2008 Pierce Mbuyi to PSU. Christ
if you're expecting we aren't going to get absolutely mauled trying to pull kids out of Toronto for forever regardless of what we do, you're sadly mistaken.

PSU is going to be probably a dominant Canadian recruiting team long term as there's not a ton of local skaters that aren't going favored to BC/BU given their money and proximity to the OHL. There will some reshuffling for a time until it levels off. It will be ok.

We also get to play the waiting game of seeing how many of these guys hit campus and for how long. The style played in NCAA hockey vs the OHL is going to be a wakeup call for a lot of kids.

I’ll take the talent and worry about the style of play later. If the influx of OHL kids continues that also means the style will look more like OHL vs NCAA.

Personally I think this year will be a very telling year on if guys like it and what happens to their draft stocks which will have a big impact on how many continue to come down. High end guys will always be fine eventually, but some of these smaller guys who can thrive up north will struggle. We’ve also seen goes go from the ncaa and not being productive to being much better producers up there. We’ll see how it all translates.

I too would take the talent, but don’t know if it’s as dire as everyone is worrying it will be.

And percentage wise, we’re still a long long way away from it looking more like OHL. It never will be as the age it too discrepant and 22-23 year old guys will still always be able to check and close space with there only being so many 18 year old high end guys.

You guys don't seem to realize how good at hockey these top Canadian kids are...

almost like there's a reason for the comment, the top guys will be fine wherever they play.

Yes McKenna, Misa (if he comes down), Martone, Lindstrom, etc.(aka the high 1st round draft picks) will be good players and impact guys from the jump. Same as the guys here who play USHL and are high first rounders. there's going to be an adaptation phase for many players. The mid round guys some will pop, some won't and it'll take time. The difference between the impact those guys can have versus say a Jack Devine is going to be more marked than say someone in the mid to back half of the first round or second where it's just as likely it's going to take a minute.

They're still going from being 17-18 year olds who are the best player on the ice by far to playing in a league average is 22-23 and the weights an extra 20# and guys who can keep up. There's a reason Michigan, BC, BU, and MN haven't won every title for the last 10 years.

Hence why you take the talent if you can get it, but it's not worth the massive meltdown. The bigger concern is the MN class we pulled this year (and a seemingly more down class there). if it rebounds and we're better this fall, we'll be fine competing. You're still going to have generational type guys you want to recruit hard, absolutely.
