Twins/Vikings/Wild/Wolves Championship appearance drought tracker

By the end of tonight, both the Warriors and Wolves could win 4-1 over the supposed #2 and #3 seeds. They'll have to duke it out.

Winner probably plays OKC in the conf final. Winner of that probably plays Cleveland or Boston in the NBA finals.

It's quite a road!
Round 1 - Luka and LeBron

Round 2 - Curry, Butler and Draymond

WCF - SGA, Chet and Williams

Finals - Tatum, Brown and Porzingis OR Mitchell, Mobley and Garland

That would be quite the gauntlet. I'm still nervous about getting past the Lakers.

What's the next category beyond "on notice?"

This Wolves team has both star power and depth. Peeps, that's the formula.

Go Gophers!!
The Twins Playoff Game losing streak of 18 was undoubtedly epically futile. That was accumulated over 9 Postseason appearances by the Twins.

The Wild have now also lost 9 Postseason Series in a row.

That's pretty brutal. Understatement.

Very unpopular opinion for someone living in Minnesota:

hockey and baseball don't mean anything to me.

Even with the Wolves, where NBA is the clear 2nd most popular pro league in the country ... it would be sweet, it would end the streak ..... but nothing will really scratch this itch like the Vikings winning the Super Bowl will

Gooo Wild!!
Recall, too, that Flip's Wolves lost in the first round seven straight years before their run to the conference final in 2004. There have been some trying times around here.

The Wolves are going to end this thing, aren't they?

Now they won't, you just jinxed it. ;)
Rex in Toy Story: "Now I have guilt!"

Seriously, you still have to get through the #1 or #4 seed, which is no small task. Whatever the cause, Ant is clearly not at his physical best right now. And you haven't even vanquished the Warriors yet, and any team that plays D the way they do can beat you three straight. All that said, this streak is in its most serious jeopardy since Favre threw across his body...or at least since the Vikes scored first in Philly.

The excitement of those glorious “North Stars
springs” enhanced by Gophers Glen Sonmor; Mike Polich; Tom Younghans; Steve Christoff; and Neal Broten (1981). Henry Luce called the 20th century the “American Century”. The 1970s was the “Gopher Hockey Decade”: three NCAA titles; the foundation of Lake Placid gold; and contributions to the North Stars winning five playoff series in the two years. And our best team (1974-1975) had an off-night in the finals against Michigan Tech. (It all came to a sorrowful end in the inexplicable; ugly loss to Wisconsin in Duluth in the 1981 finals.)

Come on, Bleed. You've been out of state for a while so I expected better from you. Did you do this after the G1 loss to GSW too?

Fair.

This one felt different than GSW Game 1. I hope I’m wrong.

Howl Wolves!!

The Minnesota Sports Gods are relaxing tonight. Smashing Buxton and Correa into each other and OKC's play have taken away most of their anxiety. It was a rough couple weeks.

I agree with you and I also hope I'm wrong. Wolves played as solid of defense as they could against OKC in the first half and ANT/Randle were money. But the theme of careless turnovers, poor bench shooting and refs keeping OKC in the game via the charity stripe meant we only led by 4 when we should have led by 10-15. I knew then that we were cooked.

Since the Twins 91 WS, this is the 9th chance one of the main four MN teams have had to get to their championship game/series.

- Twins 0-1
- Wild 0-1
- Timberwolves 0-2
- Vikings 0-4

You're shortchanging the TWolves. Previously have lost in the Western Conference Finals in 2004 (Lakers) and 2024 (Mavs).

So even if we say the MN teams only had a 33% chance of winning any of those games/series, the chances of going 0-8 is like 4%.

Plus the Minnesota teams had Home Field/Ice/Court Advantage in 5 of those 8 Championship Games/Series, so in theory favored based on regular season performance.

- Twins 0-1
2002 - lost series 1-4

- Wild 0-1
2002-03 - lost series 0-4

- Timberwolves 0-2
2003-04 - lost series 2-4
2023-24 - lost series 1-4

- Vikings 0-4
1998 - lost in OT 27-30 ("the unbelievable missed kick in regulation")
2000 - lost 0-41 ("41 donut")
2009 - lost in OT 28-31 ("Favre throws across body")
2017 - list 7-38 ("trounced after the Minneapolis Miracle")

OKC said to say ‘sup to this thread.

Go Gophers!!
You beat me to it! This streak has taken the champagne out of the cellar and put it on ice on full view.

I really, sincerely hate to admit this, but this extraordinary streak is more remarkable than any singular positive accomplishment could be. I mean, teams win conference and league championships all the time, but no city has ever done anything like this before. I'd prefer the Wolves advance, and I'd celebrate, but losing this amazing streak would be a loss in itself.

Another way to look at it - playoff appearances since the 1991 Twins WS:

Vikings: 17
Twins: 10
N Stars/Wild: 15
Wolves: 13

Total: 55
