Heard more details than I remembered but MN was basically guilted into a minority hire by Kevin Warren last time.

I believe it had more to do with his being well liked in the local AAU circles than being a minority

I never understand the need to hire a search firm. If an AD doesn't have a list and ability to make a confident hire maybe they shouldn't be the AD. Seems to be a waste of time and money hiring a search firm IMO.

If they come from the corporate ranks, and a lot of them do, this is almost a given. If people had any idea how much money companies pump into firms like Deloitte, their heads would explode. Millions of dollars annually for lots of meetings and PowerPoint presentations of which about 20%, if lucky, actually gets put into practice.

Essentially it outsources some of the decision risk to a nameless, faceless "firm", giving the AD's more wiggle room should the decision backfire. People don't rise to those levels without knowing how to sidestep a few landmines along the way.

Agreed. Long before diversity chat it was constantly about Pitino not landing local talent. Toward the end, the focus became Pitino is disliked by players/families and the coaching pipeline. Coyle heard voices and made the hiring decision.

May have something to do with vetting candidates on the short list. They probably have resources to look into backgrounds and whatnot that a public university doesn't.....or cannot.
