Cradle of coaches. They know what they are doing. Lower level conference gives lthem more wiggle room to take a risk or two.

He didn't? It takes you 2 seconds to scroll down his feed to see he makes this same post about most coaching changes. Just this cycle he's done it for NC State and Texas.

I do dislike Jay a lot. In picture dictionaries, his mug appears next to the word “pompous.” Always have disliked him. The self righteousness is only reserved for programs that don’t matter to the people who make money off the game, including him. That’s close to classic hypocrisy. Enough Jay. Have you ever had your agent entertain possible jobs while you were under contract at another one?

Right. While there are many who are disingenuous about player movement, there are, in fact, guardrails for coach movement. They are buyouts.

Correct. As an AD you have to determine what is lawful and what the market does and then you operate within those boundaries. Too ofter the U of M has set artificially tight guidelines for itself while watch everyone else run past them. This is what happened with NIL. I am happy they moved aggressively as they did on Niko.
 

In the nearly 50 years since my graduation, my contributions to the U were limited to the academic side and ended in 2020 (family & friends in law enforcement). I joined Dinkytown Athletes last year and made a small one-time contribution today. A Skip Prosser award winning coach who can actually coach college basketball and wants to be here - got to support that.

I live in Chicago and the Bears just hired Ben Johnson, so I’m going to have PTSD the thousands of times I see or hear that name over the length of his tenure. I’ll never be able to put it in my rear view mirror.

You don't think Tubby or Pitino has any level of competency requisite for Division 1 coaching? Did Pitino magically gain competency after he got fired from here? Did Tubby lose it as soon as he was hired?

Tubby was on his way down and we were a soft landing spot. Pitino had very little HC experience. Ben had no HC experience and was never part of a winning culture. Monson had 3 seasons as HC. Haskins had 7 seasons.

This is the most HC experience we've hire in nearly 40 years out side of Tubby's soft landing.

Objectively this is the best hire since Dutcher, the elder. Whether it works out that way or not remains to be seen. But it’s hard to fathom us doing better by almost any metric. No guessing or hoping.

Tangent, I’m not buying that Coyle was the savant who saw the pay for play disaster coming and did the rope a dope until it settled to get his guy. Much more likely he was overruled the last time.

I'm not saying anything against Niko and I am not proclaiming we had the greatest coaches in the past. What I am saying is that any failings they may or may not have had, were also greatly hampered by the program itself. Whether that's boosters, facilities, fan support, administration, or whatever, we need to up those areas if we want to see sustained success.
 

I believe Niko Medvev will achieve support in the following groups: fans, players, boosters, the administration, the media and finally, Gopher Hole, not in any particular order.

I would add that even Williams arena will support Medvev by transforming into a new arena.

Heard more details than I remembered but MN was basically guilted into a minority hire by Kevin Warren last time.

Johnson picked MNVCGUY and it didn’t work out so I think he should go with someone else.
