If we pay the buyout, pay him more than he's making at CSU and he's in the Big Ten at Minnesota,I dont think we will have to prove anything. I think if they make a serious offer he will take it unless he is waiting for another job. In a just world you would be right, but the fact is very few coaches will stay at Mid-Majors when offered the chance at a major conference, even an awful school.
Going to be between $3-$4M a season. That's the floor for next season for B1G conference coaches. If we pay the buyout, pay him more than he's making at CSU and he's in the Big Ten at Minnesota,
I believe he's in. The point, I think, is to be successful and win games he needs better support financially and administratively than what we have historically been providing.
Going to go out on a limb and guess that the parcel of land in an urban campus is worth far more than preserving the building for a handful of events each year.Build a new basketball facility. Keep the barn for other events and one game a year that they can hype up vs Wisconsin or Iowa to make it special.
Yep. To dump Johnson and hire Medved, the Gophers need about $10 million for buyouts and year 1 pay. Then, if it's a serious school, they'd need another $1.5 - $2.5 million for quality assistant coaches plus any assistant buyouts.Going to be between $3-$4M a season. Go on...Of course they do, and you know that, but there's much more to it than this.
And another 5 million for NILYep. To dump Johnson and hire Medved, the Gophers need about $10 million for buyouts and year 1 pay. Then, if it's a serious school, they'd need another $1.5 - $2.5 million for quality assistant coaches plus any assistant buyouts.
That's about $12 million needed to get the coaches in place.
Yeah, that's $17 million to fund the staff and players. And another 5 million for NIL
Nice connection, both 12s probably favored due to injuries to the better seed (Tyrese Hunter is hurt for Memphis)CSU steam rolled through the MW tourney. I'm sold on the Niko hire, let's do it. A bit concerned if they win a few games here starting Friday... CSU is 2.5 point favorites as the 12 seed. I believe Middle Tennessee State was once a 1 or 1.5 point favorite as a 12 seed over our Pitino Gophers
And another 5 million for NIL
Yeah, Ben is gonna take the U’s money. The devil is in the details. The Medved contract is firm through 2029 with two more option years. Media's buyout clause is 33% of the unfulfilled contract years if it is just through 2029 then 2.4 million is the number.
On the Ben Johnson side, isn't there a clause that him getting another job reduces the buyout by the new salary? If his buyout is 2.3 million as suggested in the past and he gets a job for 800k (reasonable for a drop in level) - then we might be not the hook for a net of 1.5 million.
Then perhaps a 2.7 million contract for Medved. Add that all up and the U would need 7.6 million for the coming year and perhaps some of that could be amortized over several years for budget purposes. We'd have to see the fine print.
With the coming revenue sharing I doubt we need more than 3 million in NIL and probably quite a bit less. That money comes from outside the U of M- obviously.
The U can afford this easily.
That alone averages over $300K a player.Revenue sharing will probably get them to around $4 million
This is a good line and made me laugh but I think it is in Ben's best interest not to take a year off.Yeah, Ben is gonna take the U’s money.
Hold the phone!Iowa reportedly leaning DeVries over McCollum. If Niko spurns the U, we got a nice option four hours to the south of he's interested.
I believe Pitino's contract was that if he hot "similar employment" there is no buyout period. I'm sure about Ben's (offset vs no buyout at all). Either way, it is like working for free the first two years. Ben will likely take a year off and count his $$ but maybe not.The devil is in the details. Iowa should consider Ben. Either Jacobson or Johnson.Hold the phone!
DeVries definitely takes the Indiana job if they offer and get to him in time. He's publicly inkled as much in recent weeks.
Reports are that Iowa is his dream job, so I guess I would be surprised if he ends up at IU.Hold the phone!

My understanding from the last time around is that the buyout language reduces the contracted amount by what is earned on a future job and that the let go employee can’t just sit on his butt doing nothing. There has to be evidence of trying to get a job and taking reasonable offers if they come. This all makes perfect sense to me. I would be surprised if this isn’t part of the deal. Which is why “buyout “ numbers are almost always overstated from what is really paid.I believe Pitino's contract was that if he hot "similar employment" there is no buyout period. Ben better schedule an interview with Vandelay Industries. My understanding from the last time around is that the buyout language reduces the contracted amount by what is earned on a future job and that the let go employee can’t just sit on his butt doing nothing. Or Northern Iowa.Ben better schedule an interview with Vandelay Industries.
I think the IU job is a tough one. The expectations are sky high, even though they haven't really been INDIANA FREAKING BASKETBALL for about 20 years, and their fans are delusional, clutching to the old days like grim death. In so many ways it does feel like the basketball version of Nebraska football. Once great, probably never going to be at that level again. Wash, rinse, repeat with a new coach.Reports are that Iowa is his dream job, so I guess I would be surprised if he ends up at IU.
I was just looking at this today. I’ve been tracking March Madness results with some friends since 2009. This is the first time a 12- seed opened as a favorite against a 5 since we began tracking.CSU steam rolled through the MW tourney. I'm sold on the Niko hire, let's do it. Didn't know until today that former Iowa All-American and NFL defensive lineman Jared DeVries is Darian's brother.Reports are that Iowa is his dream job, so I guess I would be surprised if he ends up at IU.
But if every other major program has revenue sharing as mandated of 20 million, then revenue sharing is a push. Unless the U gives a much higher percentage of their revenue share towards basketball versus football. They need additional NIL above and beyond that to seperate from other major programs.Revenue sharing will probably get them to around $4 million
