Fire Ben Johnson

Gonna have to pay a lot of money to buy a squad. Maybe they can get Cochran to come back, hope the big center Parker Jefferson is the real deal (has been putting up big numbers), Asuma matures into a good point guard and they go out and get a stud wing and shot blocking center in the portal along with a couple of sniper guards from long range.
Hopium is strong on this. They will almost certainly be worse without Garcia and next year will be a death march not even the local media brigade can prevent.

I can't say I'm all that excited about next year's recruits but yeah that big guy is intriguing.

Missouri did it.

I just watched a bunch of film of him. He has a lot of Garcia in him. Has a sweet shot, is athletic, catches in traffic and sees the floor - good passer. He isn't a shot blocker at this level so having a big who can defend next to him would be key. I can see how they likely used Garcia's success as a model to recruit him.

And if they do, so what? Caleb Grill was at Iowa State and now helping Missouri. We see Texas with a top 10 (probably) NBA pick hanging by a thread to even make the tourney. Coach will be on hot seat. This is the current state. Turnarounds can happen quick.

I'd be making a call to Pharrell Payne to see if a new offer would work to bring him back home. Interesting in a lot of ways that he and Hawkins are both starting on top 20 squads...

Even if we can match the $$, which we likely can't, I don't think he's Ben's biggest fan.

Right, there's enough smoke here to know the three MN guys were unhappy and left for reasons besides only NIL. Payne is the only one worthy of any $$ anyway. For all the NIL talk and dismantling last year's team, the only true NIL loss was Hawkins, which was a shocker when it happened. But even until then, they had him locked up and happy enough to return.

NIL is such a lazy excuse. It's a problem, but it isn't the reason why Johnson is a bad coach and needs to go. In fact he is part of the NIL problem with his lame persona and 22-55 record.

Going back further, it was clear Johnson was not qualified for this job when he was hired. But maybe you get lucky. We didn't. He hasn't given one hint that he can be the answer, but he's made millions while we let him try.

A Senior Night, Border Battle, where 60% of the crowd was wearing Badger Red. Not enough Gophers fans showing up to honor the Seniors and Sconnies are willing to give money to UMN because they know they are going to win.

What a way to cap off a season of declining interest and humiliation.

The athletic director’s record for coaching hires for U of M basketball does not exactly inspire confidence. Coyle has hired three coaches, collectively, for eleven years. Zero is the number for winning Big Ten seasons and NCAA tournament appearances—sobering.

But, but, Syracuse...

So there's an article by Scroggins today stating Coyle wants to build the mens program and and be in the top third of the conference in revenue sharing percentage. The article states 5-6 million between revenue sharing and NIL. If this is true I would think this job should be fairly attractive for head coaching candidates.

And a big FU to other sports. That percentage is too high for my taste. They spend that much, i expect better than top third in standings.

Lmao pulled up the timeline and these two were back to back

Of course the obvious flip side to the post by Marcus is that 4-5 of those conference wins could easily have gone the other way. But there have definitely been some nice wins and some really frustrating losses.

Brutal to just barely finish over .500 at home for the season and 2-8 at home in Big Ten play sucks because those are the games you are supposed to win for the most part.

How is that an FU to the other sports? Football and basketball should be the top sports in terms of revenue sharing and NIL/Pay for Play because they are revenue sports.

And better than top 3rd? If we are finishing in the top 6 in the Big Ten on a yearly basis that would be significantly better than what the program has done most years and would have us in the NCAA tournament. Not sure how that wouldn't be good enough.

Top 3rd would be glorious compared to now
In an 18 team conference, finishing in the top 3rd should be the goal for most of the teams every year. mngolf is way off saying that wouldn't be good enough, every team in the conference would be thrilled to be finishing in the top 3rd of the conference on a yearly basis.
