2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

Do I know he picked Austin Peay over a committable offer from us? Common sense? I know we're very down on this program on this board. As we should be in many cases. But we aren't losing out to Austin Peay on transfers if we're truly going after them. That's simply a fact. We may lose out to schools we shouldn't, Austin Peay isn't one of them.
Maybe they don’t like what they are hearing in the pitch.

Players do their homework on programs too!
They do! And here's how it would play out in this situation. Big Ten>OVC for exposure, opportunity, opponents, etc. All power to Austin Peay, but if we want a guy, I don't care if we went winless the last 3 years, if a guy thinks he can prove himself in the Big Ten, he's coming here over there.

Do you suspect we were recruiting him in a backup role? Given Austin Peay’s position, he’ll likely start.

So perhaps he chose that?

You still want a chance to win too! Exposure is everywhere

My #1 criteria for any portal prospect would be "are you better than Taurus Samuels". Now I do know that doesn't narrow it down much but it's a starting point.
I'm just thinking, are you less round than Taurus Samuels?

So you don't know. Gotcha.

You just claim the kid flat out lied, for...what?

Agreed. Not just much greater exposure (although that in itself would be enough) but much better facilities too. Also, Clarksville TN sucks. The only thing good about it is that it's less than an hour from Nashville.

Their winter weather is better of course but their summers (at least in the daytime) are brutal.

I dunno bout that. I'd rather be in the peaceful town of Clarksville TN, than murderapolis MN....

Unfortunately, the other cities have gotten worse even faster. It's a matter of context. Considering the number of large office buildings in downtown Mpls going into foreclosure, crime is a major concern.
Many of locations have successful basketball programs, crime has zero impact on the success of this program.

Looking at stats and highlights it seems like he would be a Cooper replacement. Better shooter, probably worse passer, seems similar athletically. Wouldn’t be a bad get, although we would still need to find a guard that can penetrate.

I was thinking the same thing after looking him up

The portal really does suck.

He’s all you need for a backup center and can back up both the four and five The concern about backup centers when you need at least three more guards is ridiculous.
Not at all ridiculous when you have five open spots. He can still take three guards as well as backup post.

On Ramberg, im almost guarantee he gets one. Now I totally disagree with that but we haven't sent anything that says otherwise. I'd also be pretty surprised for CBJ to not go all out to get king simply as a "well it didn't work but I got a mn kid you can't fire me!!" Tactic.

Again, I want as many bites at the apple as possible, honestly who cares if a kid is happy. I'd say the staff bent over backwards to let battle and Henley do whatever they wanted with no repercussions and they left. Get as many guys as possible because eventually you will need them.
Henley did not do anything he wanted without repercussions. He was benched in favor of Samuels for a spell while he learned his role was to shoot less and play harder defense.
