All Things Maddyn Greenway Recruitment Thread (Class of 2026, Gophers Offered)

It's not appropriate for a star from Minnesota who wants to live in Minnesota to play for Iowa. To then come back here after playing for the enemy, no.

Go to Notre Dame, Stanford, Creighton, South Carolina, Michigan, UConn... not arch enemy Iowa.

This message is for information purposes with a viewpoint. It's sound information to weigh.

Fortunately, April Calhoun saw it differenntly. Gawd, the old transfer rules were draconian

I remember that! And I think Katie Alsdurf transferred back also (not from a B1G school). Didn't April have to sit out a year plus could not get a scholarship?

Big Ten rule at the time, yeah she had to pay tuition and all expenses. Remember her dad telling me it was all worth it since she was happy here.

Are some of you serious on here? You realize you are talking about a 14-15 year old kid right?! Have you ever talked to her? If not...STHU.

She get targeted with extremely uncalled for cheap shots from opponents and has to keep her cool as they are trying to egg her on. I would hate for any of us to have a group of adults bad mouthing us for ways we handled situations at 14-15.

Also if you think she is automatic to Iowa, you couldn't be further from the truth.

In the first 30 seconds I watched her play she got called for a foul and then made it obvious to the ref that she didn’t appreciate the call. She definitely gets some latitude defensively from the refs. No one else gets away with that many reach ins. Can she play? Absolutely talented and driven. That said her attitude reminds me of CC from Iowa. Great player, knows it, and is convinced that the game revolves around her. As for the ending sequence in the game, both coaches should have backed off. There was no need for a competitive inbounds play. First off, Greenway and another girl were having words, then Greenway took the ball towards the basket instead of just treading water out front. Watching her makes me wonder if she will be insufferable in a couple years. If you are a high school ref and can’t tone down a freshman, you need a different part time gig!
Cut her some slack! She is a 9th grade girl who plays with tremendous enthusiasm. She has fun playing and makes all of her teammates better! Her team loves her and she loves being their teammate! She appears to be very coachable. Her parents should be very proud of her!

Or I coach a girl her age….who gets face-guarded or a box and 1 ran on her all the time. Her dad is the the head coach and she literally couldn’t get a call the second half of the year. One morning she couldn’t even walk up the stairs last year because she had literally been just beat up by the other team, And NEVER has she acted like that. Of course “talking” to her she should be a nice person. It’s her actions on the court. She actually doesn’t have it that bad because she plays with a whole AAU team around her. Most kids in AA don’t have much support. Tori oehrlein is a perfect example. She gets just as much attention put on her and doesn’t act like Greenway on the court.

Oh so she beat your team. That explains the unnatural hate for a teenage girl.

Actually we have never played them. We did lose to Albany in the 2021 state tournament. Yet I am a huge Paige Meyer fan. I love the way that girl plays and was very respectful. I watched a ton of SDSU games. Felt the same way when losing to Carlie Wagner at state. I don’t hate a teenage girl. I don’t like how she is acting. Not all players fit in all systems. If that is how she is going to act I do not want her in a Minnesota system. If that is how the player in a Minnesota system act, then I simply find other teams to watch.

it was pretty clear she was screaming in her face....

and as for your 1st point about intense defense......she could have been called for multiple 1st half fouls that would have changed the game completely. lots of if they called a foul i could see it, if they dont call a foul i could see it. but the refs were consistent for the most part so its not like they were calling some and not calling others so no real complaints there.
College coaches, at least the good ones, watch the body language of players, how they treat their fellow teammates and competitors during the games. Especially during state competitions and on the summer AAU circuits. I can't tell you the number of players that coaches have passed on due to their poor actions. The players never found out about the schools they could have gone to because the coaches never pursued them due to their poor actions (and some were MD All Americans).

Interesting that the #1 2026 recruit in nation is from Iowa. Iowa might be in line for a bit of a run if they get these kids.

Do you mean Jenica Lewis?

Game Highlights I assume these are all older girls and Greenway is playing up in age? Some nice players on both teams. Greenway is pretty anonymous in this game.Screen Shot 2023-06-17 at 1.16.48 PM.png

Loaded UCLA is about to become a power in the Big Ten. Can you imagine Greenway there? Probably would be a smart move for her -- or Minnesota of course.
It would seem to me the idea of a scholarship to live in Westwood with all the perks available and NIL money right there in Beverly Hills. The beach is minutes away....the weather. That section of LA, you are isolated from California's issues and just experience the plusses. Gotta be a consideration, I would think. The people you could meet, the relationships you could develop are a bit different than many other opportunities.

does Gray Duck supporting dinky athletics mean we have a shot at her? Figured that'd be conflict of interest for Chad if she follows to Iowa

Why would it be a conflict of interest? If anything, I think it is a way to insulate the company from negative publicity when she goes elsewhere. Lot harder for locals to start a "boycott Gray Duck" movement when they are the primary donor to the Gophers' NIL efforts.

These girls are living in an age where kids quit earlier and they are aloud to put their talents on display at the varsity level sooner. I've be curious to know what the average roster has for juniors and seniors.

Coach P has some great options to go after locally.

From watching for the last 10+ years, my hot take is this: parents shop around to find the coaches who are willing to let their kids play HS basketball starting in 7th or 8th grade, and they will move their kid from school to school if the coach won't meet their demands. Coaches are more willing to make these accommodations in the private schools, but it happens in certain public schools, too. When Hopkins was coached by Cosgriff it was a huge thing and now that he's at Tonka it seems he's continuing that practice (which frankly, fits the mold for Tonka...regardless of sport, their rosters are full of open enrollees). Hopkins has several girls on its roster that are at their second or third high school.

Juniors or seniors on the roster isn't necessarily indicative, because kids will see the writing on the wall and go someplace else, quit playing, or are willing to either sit on the bench and cheer on their friends or just play JV. I remember that STMA had a senior captain last year who only played JV, but sophomores and freshman were playing varsity. But maybe they wouldn't have won that state championship had they actually let their seniors play.
