It’s Time for Coyle to hit F#€k it!

Amazingly you post on the same free website as me - wowza.

First round David Roddy says 👋 - ever hear of him.
Per college basketball reference, he was a career .319 from 3
Fr - .195
Soph - .278
Jr - .438

So.one after his first two years could foresee his improvement to his Jr. Year - that’s why absolutes, which you appear to favor, are the dominion of those seek easy answers in my experience.
Roddy isn’t the primary 3 point shooter he is a threat from 3 and that allows for spacing.

Players improve, git it?

PP needs to be competent 10 about 15 feet and that will be sufficient IMO - there is a myth that ever big man has to be able to shoot from 3 - causal fan comment?

Your truth ace - we’ll see.

Wait till he gets into the league Carnac to render judgement.
Rudy G says hi too boo
Dave Roddy is a SG in comparison to PP with the way their game is - watch the highlight from his 2021-22 season and think if PP plays like Roddy...the answer is no.

Someone finally with data vs. puffing out their chest.
Roddy was included as an example of how players can radically improve - later on my post, I stated that IMO I think PP only has to develop a consistent 10-15 game to be the player he can be.

Rudy G was included as mentioned because the previous poster bagged on Eddy as an example if a true 5 who can’t play in the NBA- presumptuous farm animal comes to mind, so I provided a specific example of a true 5 who isn’t a 3 point scorer as a specific example of Mr. NBA was wrong.

It’s Monday, I’m bored and I like to go toe to toe with absolutists.

You’re cool BTW
BTW, 10-15 shots in the NBA by Centers will get you sent to either Europe or the D-league. Worst shot in basketball. Ask yourself why a Center or PF is shooting a 10-15 ft shot...

Stats don't matter because Payne wouldn't have had any stats if he played on the same team Oturu did as a FR.
That wasn’t my point.
He would have gotten maybe 8-10 mpg if he was lucky. Just for reference the starting 5 on that team was Oturu, Coffey, Murphy, Gabe and McBrayer. That team was loaded compared to this team.
To clarify, my point was if he played on a better team, then he would have better stats - more points scored, less turnovers by the team.
He just doesn't have an NBA game.
Not no, I’m hopeful he will Ny the time he leaves.
That's not to say he isn't a good CBB player, because he will be. But there's a reason why guys like Edey, Dickinson, Tshiebwe, and Timme all came back.
Develop their game and NIL IMO

My charity can use another $50.😉

I also don’t believe that all midrange shots are bad - time and place in sports counts for a lot - I’m not a “the card says go for 2” dude.

The odds of Coyle firing Johnson after 2 seasons were always very low.

the odds of Coyle firing Johnson right after he fired Lindsay Whalen are so low as to be almost infinitesimal.

there is no way in hades that Coyle is going to put himself in a situation where he has to hire a new Men's coach and a new Women's coach simultaneously.
What if he hires Whalen to coach the men's team and Johnson to coach the women's team. That way, he doesn't have to pay a buyout to either!

And my point was that if he played on a better team, his mpg would drastically be reduced. He's not playing 22 mpg on the team Oturu played on as a FR.

Payne will never have an NBA game. It's not a slight, he's going to be a good CBB player. Which I'm fine with, because hopefully he's a 4 year player with us.

And we’ll agree to disagree, but you are a gentleman

But a Center shooting a 10-15 footer is odd. I get a PG or SG pulling up while driving to the hoop, in order to create space, shoots the 10-15 footer...but a random center just happens to be open around 10-15 feet...

First off, Oturu is taller than Payne.

Oturu had a much higher ceiling than Payne will ever have because he could shoot and put the ball on the floor. His ceiling was probably more like Mychal Thompson had he stayed another year.

Payne has no range and has to get the ball where he can minimally move to shoot. He has a ceiling more like John Thomas or Mbawkwe.

He is listed as 6’8 in all the NBA sites I saw, not 6’10

Time will tell.

I’ve always said he left a year too soon and echoed it i this thread again

A better version of either by the time he’s done iMO. I didn’t agree with your opinion Henley has a higher ceiling either - agree to disagree

It’s ok if your wrong.

Lol!

Oturu was taller then Fernando when they stood next to each other on the court.

Dan wasn’t nearly as thick as Bruno though.

Well…….it’s a hobby

Not sure how being taller than him bolsters your argument -

His NIL should that he dunks on you
“Posterized by Payne” I’d pay 75 for that experience

If he catches it outside he needs to have more of an option than just pounding them till he’s 2 feet from the goal. A sweet baseline J, a baby 🪝 and lottery here we come😉

The thing is, Johnson is not without his recruiting and coaching abilities. He was always well thought of as an assistant. It's just that you need a chance to develop a way of doing things before you're thrust into a Power 6 program. Throwing an inexperienced person into something like this: I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy.

I’m not trying to argue. Who was it that thought he was a good assistant? I honestly see that said a lot but I don’t know who it was that believed this.

All I know is this: I want to walk into Williams Arena next November feeling like this is going to be something other than another death march, something other than biding our time for yet another year (at great personal expense) while we get closer to some kind of payoff down the line...maybe.

If both Battle and Cooper go too I think we’re looking at year 1 part 3 again. That isn’t sustainable.

Provided we keep the other freshmen, it ain't quite that bad...at least in terms of Year Zeroes. It's a foundation that we didn't have then. But it might prove to be worse in terms of winning percentage.

A lot depends on what Ben is seeing from Ihnen, Betts, Fox and Christie. We don't have much information on them.

Ihnen: I liked what I saw, but injuries take their toll
Christie: the real deal...but you have to coach them up and develop them

Boston College went 9-11 in the ACC. We wish.
It's over. We can go the way of the University of Chicago. Cut all sports from the University of Minnesota. There is no hope.
