Ihnen wasn't a good player pre 2 knee surgeries. Fox has only played at a much lower level, and that was before 2 knee surgeries. I expect very little from either one of them going forward. Betts is very raw.

Now that Battle and Cooper are participating in SR night, neither are likely to come back. It's not like they are fringe NBA prospects, and I don't think they would be participating tonight if they were coming back.

With Evans decommitment, I'll be surprised if Henley is back. He's the most likely of the 3 to return though.
While I certainly have some doubts about whether Fox or Ihnen can play at a high level next year, it is also quite possible that one or both will be significant contributors. I keep hearing we'll get nothing from them: Ihnen was projected to be a starter this year before he got hurt, and although he's regularly trashed on this board, I saw some very good things from him when he played, even though I think Pitino used him very poorly. He has shooting range, he didn't shoot well his sophomore year, but shot 38% from 3 his freshman year. Most importantly, he can guard 4 positions and has great size and can rebound and play defense. After watching the Badgers exploit us under the basket repeatedly, that size and length would be quite helpful.

Also, while we know Fox is a limited shooter, there's a reason that over 50 high majors contacted him and he was offered scholarships by many of them, including Ohio State, TCU, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Creighton, etc. He has talent and is a great athlete-whether he can still bring enough athleticism is a question mark, but this notion of "well, he played at a small school" suggests that the person saying it knows more than the many high major coaches who offered him a scholly. We may be surprised by one or both of them next year. Surgeries and training keep improving-I don't expect that the surgeries won't have an impact on them, it just may not be as much as people think. And Betts is raw? Are you watching their practices? We will need depth help on the front line next year w/o Evans and possibly Battle. Some of our depth may come from places people weren't expecting.

Great post! I am counting Fox and Ihnen as if they were one healthy player. To me the odds are that one of them will be a serviceable rotation play at the least. Ihnen has a ton of potential defensively.

I was really excited for Fox when he committed here because at that time I was confident his athleticism would translate to the B1G level. He was far more athletic than his peers at Northern, and that's what his game is based off of. Now after 2 knee surgeries, I'm not sure that is the case.

Pitino was using Ihnen right when he put him in the post. That's where he had his best games. He looked lost on the perimeter, including on defense, and then Ben stated he was going to be a 2 guard after 1 knee surgery? He wasn't much of a contributor his first 2 years, and now after 2 knee surgeries it's hard to see how that changes.

Curry was more talented and a better player in his early years and we saw what 2 knee surgeries did to him. It would be great if they could contribute, but it's really hard to come back from that, and expecting either to be a major contributor is a mistake.

I think it's probably a mistake to expect either to be major contributors, or to be nominal contributors, or to be non-contributors. The truth is nobody knows. I was simply suggesting that if one or both of them can retain most of their athleticism after the surgeries, and possible improve on other areas of their games during the 2 years they've had off, they MIGHT be contributors. Everyone's situation is different, and Ihnen and Fox are not Curry. They may recover differently. They may not. And after all they've been through, that would be nice to see. (At least for me it would).

I see TT is still getting the most votes and Henley is in 2nd place. With the improvement of Henley’s play I sure hope he sticks around. I would also like to see TT stick around as he does have some skill as a seven footer but his lack of seeing the floor lately may seal the deal for him leaving.

StarTribune should come here for Gopher transfer news!

We are dead on with our departing player predictions!

I guess that would be Betts. And you couldn’t blame him one bit.
I would say that Betts' opportunity to get in the Gopher lineup next year improved today. Let's go with massive optimism here: What if Betts was kicking Henley's tail in practice and Henley thought Betts was getting the PT next year? :)

I think many of those schools had an interest in Fox as an athletic player who can provide depth around the rim, especially as a rebounder. With the unfortunate injuries, nobody knows what his effectiveness will be. Plus, Minnesota needs more impact players than depth guys. Ihnen was not a Big Ten player before. Now he is coming off of two knee injuries.

Ihnen was becoming a Big Ten player. He certainly was no star but for those who watched the games- we could tell that there was potential. I think Ben viewed it that way as well. I hope next year is a great year for Ihnen and Fox - they deserve it.

All Gophers will transfer. The Regents have voted to shutdown basketball at UMN. There is no hope.

Becoming a Big Ten player? His last season he played he shot 32% from the field, 22% from three, and averaged 2.8 PPG. He was a bench player who received inconsistent minutes on a bad team. That is a long ways away from being a Big Ten caliber player.

I watched all of the games. I know what I saw. He was becoming solid on defense and he was getting rebounds in space and blocking shots. He only got 14 minutes per game but he was the second leading shot blocker and averaged 3.5 boards.

This feels like COB at the Bedford Falls building and loan. We made it! The run on the bank is over! No more transfers!! 🤞🙏🤞

You might want to invest in spectacles.
