2022 Minnesota Bowl Projection Tracker

We had great turnouts at both Citrus and Tampa.

Banking on citrus, Tampa or Nashville. Let’s go!

Pinstripe is probably it if we lose both. I would be at pinstripe
I would be cold and regret it

Yup I agree. Lose both = Pinstripe. So many possibilities at this point, but I love the speculation.

BTW, I liked that both ESPN writers had Wisconsin in Detroit :)
My guess is;
Win 0 = pinstripe
Win 1 Nashville or whatever wisconsin was in last year
Win 2 one of the two Florida Jan 2 games

this is from College Football News - a presumably reputable website:
it appears to show a pecking order for the Bowl Games.

Big Ten Bowl Tie-Ins, Affiliations

The Big Ten Champion will automatically go to the Rose Bowl if it’s not selected for the College Football Playoff. If the top Big Ten team is in the CFP, the highest-ranked available team is in the Rose.

The Big Ten alternates with the SEC between the Las Vegas Bowl (2021, 2023, 2025) and Duke’s Mayo Bowl (2020, 2022, 2024). This year, the Big Ten is expected to go to the Duke’s Mayo after Wisconsin played in the Las Vegas last season.

1. Rose Bowl vs Pac-12
Highest-ranked available Big Ten team, if it’s not the Big Ten Champion.

2. Vrbo Citrus Bowl vs SEC

3. ReliaQuest Bowl vs SEC

4. Duke’s Mayo Bowl vs ACC

5. TransPerfect Music City Bowl vs SEC

6. New Era Pinstripe Bowl vs ACC

7. Guaranteed Rate Bowl vs Big 12

8. Quick Lane Bowl vs MAC

as to how teams are chosen for the games, this is from the B1G Website:

The Big Ten’s 2020-25 bowl lineup will also feature the same selection process that has been used since 2014 to ensure outstanding bowl matchups and fresh postseason destinations. Each bowl partner will work with the Big Ten to create the best possible matchup based upon an agreed set of parameters, with final approval by the conference office for all team selections.

Ranking the teams
1) Ohio state Michigan winner
2) loser
3) penn state
4) big ten west champ
5) big ten west second place
6) big ten west 3rd place
7) Maryland (if they beat Rutgers)
8) big ten west 4th place
9) Michigan state (if they beat Rutgers and lose to penn state)
10) wisconsin (if they lose to Minnesota)

If Wisconsin beats Minnesota I can’t see Minnesota falling below Maryland or Michigan state unless they pull an upset. So I see 8th as the floor for Minnesota with zero wins. But the big ten will get two minimum in the NY6 and Minnesota went to guaranteed rate bowl last year which is why I see pinstripe as the floor.

Citrus above ReliaQuest (former Outback)? Hmm.

Citrus has *always* been above Outback/Tampa Bay
True but that matters less since it stopped being a draft and more about matchups and avoiding repeats

If two teams are close they “place them”
If two teams aren’t that close I’m sure the citrus would get the better one

I guess having the conference play matchmaker between the bowls and the teams should provide an advantage to MN over the bowls just picking teams directly, but somehow we still get jobbed and teams like Penitentiary State keep getting elevated to bowls they don’t deserve.
The BS about Florida bowls not liking MN because many of our fans live there and don’t need to spend on hotels is complete crap. All B1G teams have fans that retire in southern states, not just MN.

The Athletic today has:

CFP - Michigan
Rose - Ohio St
Cotton - Penn St

Citrus - Purdue
Outback - Iowa
Music City - Illinois
Mayo - Maryland
Pinstripe - Gophers
Phoenix - Wisconsin

BOOOOOOOOO!!!!

So I guess if we beat Iowa, we are in the Outback or the Citrus

Assuming all of the East Trio make the NY6, then I believe that is correct.

Though I don't know what happens if we beat Iowa, lose to Wisc, Wisc wins out, Iowa beats Neb, and Purdue only loses to one of NW or IU.

I believe that is the 5-way tie scenario some were talking about in another thread?

Much easier if we just win out and Purdue loses one. :D

Yeah I'm assuming beating Wiscy as well for a Florida bowl

I just hope we get an sec team so we can hear all about how they don’t want to be there if we win

A few updates after the loss to Iowa:

CBS (Palm): Quick Lane vs Eastern Michigan
ESPN (Bonagura): Mayo vs Pitt
ESPN (Schlabach): Quick Lane vs Ohio
CFN: Music City vs Missouri

Many possible outcomes still as you can see from these predictions.

Yeah. I don’t see Mayo at all.
I think a win is almost 100% music city.
Only way a win puts us in mayo is if the west champ wins the Big Ten title game and the big ten somehow gets 4 in the New Years 6.

Loss is likely pin stripe (which is funny because people who had us in pin stripe all year don’t have us in it now)
A win is likely music city bowl.

If the big ten gets only 3 teams between NY6/citrus teams between them that’s what opens up a loss into quick lane (since we were in the other option last year)
Michigan state beating penn state could really work the whole system into a totally different look.

I’d smack Jerry Palm if I had the chance
I was looking through some things and I think it’s a possibility if we lose to Wisconsin

Playoff - big ten champ
Rose - big ten east #2
Orange or citrus - penn state
Reliaquest (former outback) - Iowa
Dukes mayo - Purdue
Music city - Illinois
Pin stripe - Wisconsin (Maryland here last year)
Guaranteed rate bowl - Maryland (Minnesota here last year)
Quick lane - Minnesota

Two in the playoff and the big ten won’t fill the quick lane bowl because penn state will go rose and citrus can only drop big ten if big ten in orange (is my understanding)

Iowa/Purdue wins the big ten and the big ten won’t fill the quick lane bowl (because penn state will go to citrus even if big ten east #2 goes to orange)

Big ten doesn’t care about repeats Minnesota goes to guaranteed rate bowl over Maryland because I think that’s the way they’d like it…I think possible because they don’t like sending Maryland west anyways

Music City is a yes. PinStripe is a no. Who would want to go to New York City?? Been there, don’t care to go back!
