All Things 2022 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Every game I think they are dead, but they find a way.

Hockenson addition is looking huge, he delivered big on a few days prep. A high skill tight end is a key piece, can't wait to see what they do with him going forward.
If Hockenson can do that in this offense with only a few days prep, I’d say that’s pretty damning of Irv Smith. Generally a pretty big disappointment.

I would have preferred he had stayed in bounds on that 1st down conversion under 3 minutes, but yeah solid debut on limited practice.

I can't remember who, but a former GM on the Dan Patrick Show commented last week that he's also an upgrade as a blocker.

Vikings found a way to when the refs were actively cheating. The ref who tackled Bynum must have had money on the game. Washington covered.

Good win for a trap game. Now they can afford to lose the next 2 weeks against the Bills and Cowboys and make the playoffs.
9-8 would likely win the division. They are two wins away.

Well, we know we aren't going 15-1 this season.

We're going to lose X more games. It's awesome to keep winning, for sure. But we just have to remind ourselves that there is zero point zero zero zero zero chance they're going 15-1.

It's OK when they lose a game or a few. The sky isn't falling.

Hell, I wouldn't want to blow our loads and use up whatever karma we have for this season, by going 15-1 in the regular season.

Save some juice for the playoffs. Give some guys some games off, throughout the season.

I pointed out earlier, in terms of the NFC North (and I still have to catch myself however many years later not calling it the NFC Central) the Vikings caught a huge scheduling break by getting 9 Home, 7 Road & 1 Neutral game. Yesterday's "road" game looked liked there were actually a vast majority of Purple fans. Conversely the Packers have 8 Home, 8 Road & 1 Neutral.

As it stands now, what is unfortunate in terms of trying to obtain the highest seed and homefield advantage, is Minnesota's pre-determined Inter-Divisions matchups are both the toughest AFC Division (East) and NFC Division (East).

Still have to go on the road to face Buffalo this Sunday, but after that remaining slate get home cooking vs Dallas, New England, NY Jets, Indianapolis & NY Giants. Remaining road trips will be all the NFC North foes.

In short, set up really well to win the Division, tougher task to get the #1 seed with the loss already to the Eagles. At 7-1, 2 game lead in the loss column currently over Seattle (6-3) for the #2 seed.

The Packers who look like they are circling the drain, are still only 1.5 games out of the 3rd Wild Card. So are the Bears.

Let’s go back to the 3 year old cousins thread and remind everybody of what they thought of Kirk.
a big part of the issue with Kirk has always been the salary. If you're paying big $$ to the QB, that limits what you can do with your roster in a league with a tight salary cap.

that's why the holy grail is to sign a QB on a rookie-level contract and strike gold like a Mahomes or a Josh Allen.

once the QB starts making big $$, then inevitably the rest of your roster is going to take some hits because you can't afford to keep everyone.

So, it's not just that people had questions about Kirk - they had questions about what the team could do while paying Kirk like one of the top QB's in the league.

The Vikings totally should have tanked one or two of those years so they could have the opportunity to draft one of..

- Baker Mayfield
- Sam Darnold
- Josh Rosen
- Kyler Murray
- Dwayne Haskins
- Daniel Jones
- Mitch Trubisky
- Carson Wentz
- Jared Goff
- Jameis Winston
- Marcus Mariota
- Johnny Manziel
- Blake Bortles

Drafting a QB: aka The Big Crapshoot.

Let's see, we need a QB... highest-rated guy on the board is this Ponder kid...

Okay, okay... Teddy Bridgewater is a can't-miss... let's give it a shot.

Kellen Mond: Tall, athletic, big, big arm... God, I LIKE it!

We need secondary help......let's draft some.

Trae Waynes, Mike Hughes, Jeff Gladney......that should solve it.

You can play that game all day Murray!

Yes, you could. The draft is a crap shoot, which was exactly my point.

All were bad picks at the time. Everyone knew none of them should have been picked where they were.

The problem is when teams reach for QBs.

I don't think Bridgewater was ever labeled "can't miss". Getting him with the last pick in the 1st Rd didn't seem like a reach, and even with his time cut short I still don't see that as a "bad pick".

They got productivity out of him for a modest salary. Should have got them to the Divisional Round of the playoffs if not for Wide Left.

and now Josh Allen may be hurt.

the Vikes have had the horseshoe on their side this year. If Allen can't play, that would be the 4th or 5th time they've faced a backup QB this season.

But - if Allen can't play, that means..................Case Keenum and Stefon Diggs vs the Vikings!!!

There’s a chance Allen is shut down for awhile. Really just depends how serious it is.

I hope they save some good luck for the playoffs.

It’s not just good luck or having a horseshoe on their side. It’s being clutch in the 4th making plays when they need to be made. Good teams know how to win.

There is some luck involved. They played Miami with a 3rd string QB. The lions are the gift that keeps on giving in their inability to win. New Orleans had a double doink field goal to miss out of overtime. Little do we forget the at 1 time they were 1-1 and down 24-14 after 3 quarters of a home game against the lions and fans were booing.

Listening to ESPN this morning, it sounds like his UCLin his elbow - very tricky and delicate. I’ll be shocked if he plays based on their goals - he’s literally their offense m.
