All Things Minnesota Timberwolves 2022-2023 In-Season Thread

OKC has talent and they hustle. Too bad Chet is out.

The wolves have talent and they are massive. It almost looks like the court is too small. Their challenge on offense this year will be spacing and ball movement.

I know Rudy put up big numbers last night but he looks slow to me. He had an obvious size advantage but I noticed that he wasn't getting rebounds in contested situations. (I know he's not going to get every rebound.) OKC, a small team, had a huge advantage on the boards, which resulted in a close game. I wonder how Rudy will look against larger and more talented teams.
To be fair, a lot of those offensive rebounds OKC got were because their shots were so bad. Lots of awkward bounces off the rim.

the first sentence I posted was this:

It's a win, but gawd were towns and Ant just horrid. To still win is a good thing.

.sorry you missed it.

There are only 151 posts in this thread. Sorry you missed it.;)

Lol so much overreaction in this thread after one game with a bunch of new players. And it was still a win. Take a deep breath. It will be ok.

You're certainly right about the 2nd point. As for the 1st point?

We're on Gopher Hole and you say that NOBODY is unhappy the home team lost?:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Sure people are allowed/encouraged to make observations. Kinda odd though that after a win none of the observers noticed anything good that happened. The focus seems to be that the Wolves "lost" because they didn't have enough style points.

Looking at the results last night there were a number of favored teams who lost the old fashioned way.

To be fair Gopher Weather Guy was happy and had a solid criticism too. Yeah, it's possible.
Unless somebody who posts is a close friend of Chet Holmgren or Mike Muscala, nobody on this board is unhappy that the wolves won.

Lots of awkward bounces off the rim??????

Lots of awkward bounces off the rim??????
Yes. Lots of bricks that went long. Most missed shots end up in the same areas. OKC had a lot of awkward misses that went all over the place.

I was thinking the same thing; I watched through halfway through the third, just before the OKC run.

Thought there were a lot of “lucky” OKC boards.

Is it overreaction to think Timberwolves will become Rudy Gobert's team?

Host Michael Rand has some expanded thoughts on the first of 82 Timberwolves games, including the notion that he can see this becoming Rudy Gobert's team. Everyone in the starting lineup reached double figures in shots and points, but it will be interesting to see how the pecking order is sorted out as the year goes on.

Go Gophers!!

after watching most of the game - I think some people were overly optimistic about the amount of time it would take for this team to gel.

New starting Post.....KAT playing a new position......several new players in the rotation.....other players logging more minutes than they have in the past.

Not to mention that KAT was in the freakin' hospital and missed a big chunk of camp. KAT and Rudy had only played a few minutes together before the season opener. KAT is playing at 20 lbs under his normal playing weight.

so the idea that the Wolves would jump on the floor and play like this cohesive, polished unit was a pipe dream. I think it might take them 10 to 15 games to really figure things out.

the real key will be to see how they look in a month. if they're still having the same issues, then it's time to PANIC!!!!!

Not the best choice of worlds for someone who did time for a gun charge.

This guy should be so happy with the twolves as they signed him to a 4 year $60million contract and he’s not even good.

It's really 3/$45 (team option for the fourth year). He's good, but not 3/$45 good. I agree that he was lucky the wolves didn't boot him.

And here's Gobert's thought on playing the Jazz for the first time.

“I knew that the probability was the highest it had ever been in my Utah years,” Gobert said Friday morning, just a few hours before facing the Jazz for the first time as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. “I knew Danny (Ainge) had a lot of things on his mind and was going to do what he thought was good for the future of the franchise and for ownership. I was prepared. I knew whatever was gonna happen, I was ready to have my best year and keep growing.”

There was a general feeling that the Jazz had missed their window, that the team built around Gobert and Donovan Mitchell had done everything that it was going to do.

There wasn’t really one thing that anyone could point to as the reason that the Jazz team started to feel like it had lost its way. But it was clear that things weren’t getting better.

“I don’t know if you can really call it a problem,” Gobert said. “We’d been really, really good. I just think sometimes you miss that window and it can’t last forever. So you’ve gotta make decisions.”..

I don't think much changes for KAT on offense. He was logging tons of minutes last year with Vanderbilt who wasn't playing perimeter minutes.

The biggest change for KAT is going to be that DLo and Gobert are such good PNR players, that we will be calling that set more often but I think KAT is pretty comfortable spotting up and proving spacing on that set.

On defense, he will be chasing around the 4's, that's the biggest difference for him.

Wolves 64 Jazz 55 at the Half.

Edwards and Russell have 13 pts and Gobert has 9 rebounds.

Lauri Markkananen and Kelly Olynk each have 12 pts for Utah.

Wolves with a "bleeping" foot on Towns and 6 turnovers in the 3rd, have looked very bad indeed.

77-70 Utah with 5:25 left n the 3rd.

Great shot by Russell to tie it.

Maybe those Seattle Supersonics uniforms the Wolves are wearing will get them a win yet. It least it got them to overtime.

Last game Jordan Clarkson scored 10 total points. Tonight he makes 10 buckets and was 7-12 from 3 from beyond the arch for 29 points.

Bad loss.
Well, we have very slow feet. This is not going to work. They blow by us on the perimeter at will. Teams did last year and that was with Beverly. Teams drive and kick at will. We didn't have any hands in the face of shooters again tonight. Teams can get wide open threes whenever they want. Rudy was supposed to patrol the paint so that would allow us to cover the perimeter more easily. That ain't happening.

Oh well.

I will now bow out for posting what my own eyes see. So sad!

Also, our bench sucks balls worse than last year. Ant had 30 and I thought he had a bad game. Turnovers, mental errors, getting lost on the perimeter. He literally didn't guard anyone all of the 4th quarter. I'm telling you, I sometimes wonder if he isn't a slightly better version of JR Rider.

F--k Everything!

Not really. More like a 1st week loss. Utah come in after beating Denver, the favorite to wn the Division.

The difference was Utah hit 20 threes to Minnesota's 11, and the turnovers were abysmal.

Not sure if either is gonna be sustainable long term.

So far the wolves are being out scored 68-55 in the third so might wanna figure out why that is.

That’s not the twolves game though. They are always gonna take less and make less 3’s than their opponents. They are playing 1980 basketball in 2022.

Sorta agree. Tonight Utah just keep shooting them 'cuz they kept hitting them. What there was a point in the 3rd when they hit 7 out of 11! They ended up hitting 40% of them. Olynk went 5/6 and Clarkson went 7-12.

Not sure who they couldn't have beaten shooting like that tonight.

Good night.
