All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

I agree I don’t mind him but just ponying out he’s been a revolving door guy and could have been claimed by any team several times this year. I trust him more then Duffey, smith, and Thornburg. Maybe even Thielbar.

We need at least one more bullpen arm and I’d like to see Moran be moved up permanently to give us more options/another lefty and release Duffy/McGill or thornberg

When do the Vikings report?

or

The Gophers?

This should be the last season for Rocco Baldelli. He can't be manager next season.

I want to know specifically who called for that pitch
On the two run scoring hit the twins don’t hit the cut off man and just lob it home when there is no play. If the relay guy is hit the go ahead run is on first and not second meaning they can’t sacrifice him to third with one out where a sac fly scored him. Not saying it’s on Rocco, but the attention to detail rests with him and it needs to be addressed by sitting people when they make mistakes. Not saying the twins win that game with that play but it probably goes into extra’s.

If the second part is true that’s an issue cause it’s probably a long term issue not something 2 weeks on the DL will solve.

This loss and others are on the front office. I didn’t like the Rodgers trade when it was made. Even if you don’t wanna resign him to have him on your team as a great lefty reliever is worth more then an injured starter and a passable bullpen arm. But they trade him and so it goes. The problem is the only other additional to the bullpen was Smith, who appears to be regressing to the mean. That left the team open to needing internal bullpen arms to improve greatly and they just have not. Then you keep guys like Duffy, thielbar, and Thornburg who you won’t pitch in close games, so who is your bullpen. It’s down to Pagan, Jax, and Duran, with a little smith. That’s a big issue when your starters rarely make it out of the 5th inning. I don’t blame this lose on Rocco it’s on the front office. Rocco didn’t have any good options left in the bullpen. Can you imagine if he brings in Duffy and Duffey blows the game. That’s worse then bringing back Pagan after an inning last night and an inning already tonight.

I want to know if Jax is available why doesn’t he start the inning. It makes no sense. Pagan should not be going 2 innings after going 1 last night. Rocco continues to make bad decisions.
Max threw 27 pitches last night just like Duran. You could have made the case that Duffy would have been a better option to start the 9th.

Either he’s available or he isn’t though. If they’re willing to put him in later in the inning instead of someone else, then he should have started the inning.

Larnach has to throw to second and was a poor choice on his end - basically unless the ball is hit directly at him on one hop, you go to 2nd and he needs to mentally play that through his mind

Agreed, but it probably would have been two either way. Would like to see the ump call it not a catch and let the play play out vs ending the play by calling it a catch .
It looked like Miller thought he caught it and it had nothing to do with the ump’s call.

The worst thing about that play is the 1st base ump was probably in the worst position to make that call. He was completely blocked from seeing the ball.

I agree the bigger problem is the 3-4 other bullpen spots that are filled with people Rocoo doesn’t want to, for good reason, use is close games. With 13 pitchers limited in the roster you cannot afford to have pitchers on the roster as bodies. If they can’t be used they should be gone. Will be interested to see if they DFA Cotton tomorrow again for a fresh arm as he has pitched in the last two games.

They could call it as not a catch and just let Miller step on the base and make the throw to second. The fact that Miller looked at second as soon as he got the ball and that Jeffers didn’t stop running at all were two giveaways that the ball wasn’t caught.

Like I said the play is dead as soon as the UMP calls it a catch. Nothing can be done to remedy the play if he is wrong. If they call it trapped just let the play continue and turn two the old fashioned way. Then there is not problem.

There is one problem with that play. The problem is that it's not reviewable.

The question is what is the call when they say it's trapped.

Miller steps on 1st and throws to second where they tag out Jeffers. Play is over two outs are recorded and it doesn’t matter that they play can not be reviewed as there would be nothing to review.

Rocco mis-managing games has been par for the course for the past 1.5 seasons. This is clearly not a postseason team as currently constructed. This team should be in full-on sell mode as we approach the deadline. Take what you can get for guys like Pagan, Sanchez, Joe Smith, Thielbar, Duffey, Bundy, etc.

See what type of offers you get for Correa, Kepler, Polanco, and Gray. Correa likely opts out and looks for a massive new deal after this season but I imagine they could still get a decent haul for him.

Go with a youth movement for the rest of this year and hope any of the young talent accrued at this deadline can factor in next season.

This loss is completely on Rocco. There's no way you send Pagan out there for the 9th. If Jax starts the inning they win the game. Just inexcusable. Fire him and Falvey as far as I'm concerned. The season went south tonight.

Twins season down tubes. Parker Fox out for year. Who will complete the Minnesota Sports Gods Trio with a major injury: Tanner Morgan or Kirk Cousins?
