All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Honestly, given Buxton's track record over the long haul and this season, I can't fault him for giving him a day off. Just can't. Also I don't think this is a Rocco decision only. It as to be a collaborative effort with Buxton, Baldelli, Falvey, Levine, trainers and agents that this is the plan.

Saying that, I really hope Buxton plays on Friday, my season debut at Target Field.
I'm not saying he should never get a day off. But if you take the 19 games he's been healthy and extrapolate it over a season it would be 102 games in CF, 34 at DH and 26 days off. That is ridiculous for any regular player but especially one who's possibly the best defender in the game. If healthy, he shouldn't be getting more than 1-2 days off per month, especially if you're DH'ing him too.

How do we know on all the days he's been given off he wasn't hurt or sick in some manner? No idea, but perhaps since the slide in Boston the load management has been necessary.

I'm taking them at their word. He missed a game last week with an injury. This is a "scheduled day off". It would be less of an issue if he wasn't also DH'ing twice a week. All of his recent injuries have occurred batting/running the bases, so I don't get the logic of that.

Too bad Sano on the IL. Since he can't hit, maybe he can pitch..............

Tied for 4th in the big leagues for team ERA, but thanks for showing up to complain when they have a tough outing. Defense has been anything but stellar tonight even though all runs have been earned.

They get back to within 2, but then send Bundy back out there? I don’t get it.
Meh they could have played better defense too. Didn’t help that Sanchez gets hit with a ball on the base paths. Not too mention 5 double plays in 7 innings ain’t helping.

That’s two not good starts in a row for Bundy who was a scrapheap pitcher so we shall see. How long he’s got a spot in the rotation.

It’s baseball and a long season not gonna overreact after one game. I’m saving my anger for the wild when they fall down 0-2 in the series tonight.

The TwIns are in 1st place tied for 2nd best record in the AL and Buxton has avoided the IL.

Celebrate. Rejoice he wasn't done for the bulk of the year after the Fenway slide.

Hopefully they can find the magic regimen to keep him healthy/productive for the majority of the season and duration of his contract.

Based on past history, changing it up is worth a try, though he might still find a way to trip on a sprinkler head or something. Heaven forbid.

Relax. It was just an off comment. Don't take it so personal.

They said last night was his scheduled day off and he should be in the lineup for all the games against the As.

I’d rather treat BB with some kid gloves at this point, as we'll need the best version of him for the playoffs!

I think he gets one more chance and if he falters again then he’ll be out of the rotation for good.

I think there is a shorter leash this year as we have more options and Winder can certainly take his turn, be the spot starter if need be.

Agree that’s it’s only one game and not everyone is gonna be a Picasso - overall consistency is what matters. We’ll bounce back tonight, which is a sign of a good team.

He is who we thought he was.

If Archer and Paddock hold up then Falvey with the coveted 667 BA. I think Paddock is the most likely to stay in the rotation the whole season since he’s still only 25; hope Archer makes it as well because his histrionics in the mound make me chuckle.

Balazovic and Woods-Richardson are hopefully options at some point as well.

Not Twins related but wow are the Reds really bad. 3-21 records, they gave up 18 runs to Milwaukee last night. They're already 13.5 game out of 1st and have a run differential of -82 through 24 games. That's getting outscored by about 3.5 runs a game. For comparison, the Orioles had the worst run differential last year and were outscored about 1.8 runs a game.

I think Votto has one more year left on his contract but I wonder if he would be available for cheap if the Twins decide to make a move for a first basemen. He's been awful himself so far but gotta believe it's hard to play well in that environment. He still walks a lot. But his contract is pretty high though. The Reds would have to eat some of it for anyone to take it on.

FWIW -

Watching the Sox and Angels game and Story is only hitting .215

FWIW, in the Strib today, they mentioned that Sano would be having surgery. They referred to it as a "minimally invasive procedure."

If that is accurate, then it should be a shorter recovery period.

at the very least, it would be helpful if Sano could come back and play some games this year. If he can show he's healthy, and hit a few HR's, it might improve the odds that another team might offer the Twins something for Sano in a deal. that would be better than eating the remaining salary.

Ohtani also has 2 hits today. What a valuable player he will be for years. Two positions covered by one person.
I want the Angels to make the playoffs, give him and Trout the audience they deserve - do not want to play them though.
