Twice, I thought we had that game with no problem. And twice it was gone in a flash.

That's the perfect MN sports fan.

I'm actually a little numb to it. I feel like I should be more pissed.

I do have a message for DLO, though..........how were the dead ass fans tonight?
 




1) KAT cannot make so many dumb fouls, he thinks he gets fouled on every play. He really needs to step up and stop complaining about every play.
2) Pat Bev is not Steph Curry, and he should not be shooting so much, late in games.
3) I like Chris Finch, but he lost two large leads in that game, and he needs to own that.
 





The only redeeming quality about the Wolves existence since 1989 is they weren’t good enough to break our hearts in a devastating fashion. The KG years they found ways to lose but never was it an absolute gut punch…until tonight. It’s hard to explain how absolutely Minnesota this was. Crowd off the charts rocking to start the game, team couldn’t have played a better first 20 minutes, allow Memphis back in but then we blow it open again and crowd rocking only to end it the way only a MN sports team can.

This loss will further define this franchise and it’s complete ineptitude. I hope they can surprise us and bounce back but this feels like a 4-1 series finale. And if it is, I think the front office will consider trading KAT this offseason while he still has marquee value.

Well if nothing else, after this Saturday I can tell my kids in 20 years that I attended a Timberwolves playoff game. While we wait for them to get back.

Russell was 4 of 8 from 3 last night, he was their leading scorer and was a +4 overall. While there is plenty of blame to be spread around, he wasn't the main problem last night.

Towns was. Though he wasn't alone among the wretched in those 2 damn quarters.

Edwards didn't show-up in the first half and was -9 for the game. Bane just lit him up. You can throw in Prince and Beasley too. They were all brutally bad. The Wolves bench itself was outscored 41-22 last night. Their depth was been their undoing all year.

Season was better than most thought it would be, but the ending probably won't be.

Though look on the bright side, for Gopherhole at least. The abysmal performance last night, brought many people to this topic who have ignored it nearly all year. When they were winning at least. :drink:

The Wolves had the 5th highest scoring bench in the NBA this season. They weren't great last night, but they have been a bright spot for the Wolves most of the season.

I'll agree on DLo though. He was good last night and is a far better leader than Towns.
 

Karl-Anthony Towns Will Never Live This Down​


Minnesota blew two huge leads and was outscored by 25 in the fourth quarter. Memphis went on runs of 21-0 and 47-13 in the second half, and Karl-Anthony Towns was invisible. Towns was last seen mic'd up in the first half, speaking confidently in the huddle.

Towns is having an incredibly tough time this postseason. He played well in the Wolves' game 1 upset, but in the Timberwolves blowout loss in Game 2 he scored 15 points on just seven field goal attempts. He scored 11 points on 11 shots in the play-in game.

The T-Wolves, a seven-seed, were not supposed to win this series. Still, they looked like an exciting young team that was going to make some noise after a Game 1 victory. After this collapse they look like another team that might as well have stayed home. And Towns looks like he did.

In the biggest game of his career, Karl-Anthony Towns finished with more fouls than shot attempts, and that wasn't even the most troubling part. Even worse is that his performance wasn't an outlier.

It's now become a trend.

Towns tossed out another playoff dud in a 104-95 loss to Memphis in a Game 3 meltdown that instantly earned a spot in Minnesota lore among all-time sports collapses.

In nearly 33 minutes of action, Towns recorded five fouls and only four shots. Asked about his low shot total afterward, he gave a curt response.

"Next question," he said.

Seriously? That's his answer to a legitimate question about him taking the fewest shots in a game in his NBA career?

So mature.

Four shots for Karl-Anthony Towns in such an important game is unacceptable. He's not the first NBA star to draw double teams.

Reusse: Vikings, Twins have had historic chokes, but leave it to Timberwolves to pull off a Double Choke

DOUBLE CHOKE: The uniqueness of the agony inflicted on an over-capacity crowd announced at 19,634 on Thursday night at Target Center was not that the Timberwolves choked in the 104-95 loss to Memphis, but rather that they did so twice.

Our pro teams choke routinely around here. For instance:

The Vikings' defense performs fiercely and against all odds on a frozen day at the Gophers' on-campus stadium in January 2018, holding down Seattle and quarterback Russell Wilson on a day the Purple offense did almost zero, and then Blair Walsh heads out there and misses a 28-yard field goal, allowing the Seahawks to win 10-9.

That's an easy-to-understand, singular choke.

But this was a Double Choke. First, the Timberwolves went the final 5:45 of the second quarter without a point, allowing what had been a 26-point lead to shrink to 51-44 at halftime.

Then, they took advantage of a horrible stretch of Memphis play in the third quarter to build the lead back to 25, before shrinking to non-competitiveness in the fourth quarter.

Dane Mizutani: Timberwolves aren’t ready for success. This series might be over.

While nobody on the Timberwolves played well down the stretch — not Russell, not Edwards, not anybody — Towns wasn’t even on the floor.

This isn’t suddenly going to change. This is who Towns is as a player.

He couldn’t stay on the floor in the play-in game against the Los Angeles Clippers, and despite a dominant performance in Game 1 against the Grizzlies, he struggled with foul trouble in Game 2 and clearly didn’t learn his lesson in Game 3.

That might be the biggest takeaway from this loss. As much as the Timberwolves are going to lament the blown leads — and they absolutely should — the fact Towns wasn’t on the floor was a big part of their downfall.

After watching the Grizzlies get knocked down and get up again, the Timberwolves are going to have to do the same in Game 4.

Do they have that in them? It sure doesn’t look like it.
