Just bumping this thread as it will be an active one in the coming days and weeks.

Go AD's Trying to Save Their Own Jobs!!

University of San Diego chimes in:

San Diego fired men's basketball coach Sam Scholl after four seasons, the school announced on Sunday night.

The Toreros finished their season on Friday, getting knocked out of the West Coast Conference tournament by Portland. San Diego went 15-16 overall and 7-9 in WCC play.

Scholl took over as interim coach toward the end of the 2017-18 season and was elevated to the permanent job after the campaign ended. His best season came in 2018-19, when he led San Diego to 21 wins and an NIT appearance. He followed that up with 9-23 and 3-11 seasons the last two years, and San Diego was off to a 13-9 start this season before struggling down the stretch.

In four seasons at the helm, Scholl went 48-65 overall.

"Decisions like this are very difficult, especially when it involves people you care so much about," San Diego athletic director Bill McGillis said in a statement. "Coach Scholl is an amazing man, and he has been a tremendous mentor to the young men in our program. Although we have not achieved the competitive progress we expected, Sam has poured his heart and soul into USD basketball, and he has led our program with great integrity from day one."

Nebraska Omaha chimes in:

The University of Nebraska Omaha is making a change in leadership for its men's basketball program.

The university announced Sunday Derrin Hansen has been fired as the team's head coach after 17 seasons.

UNO Athletic Director Adrian Dowell released the following statement on the men's basketball Twitter page:

"Earlier today I informed Derrin Hansen, the student-athletes, and coaches in our men's basketball program of my decision to make a change in leadership for the head coach position," said Dowell.

"I ask that the entire Maverick community join me in thanking Coach Hansen for his many contributions to Omaha Athletics and our university. In 17 years leading Omaha Men's Basketball, Coach Hansen represented UNO with class, impacted countless lives through his mentorship of student-athletes on and off the court, and successfully transitioned the program to the Division I level. We wish Derrin and his family nothing but the best in the future, and we are forever grateful for their impact on Omaha Athletics."

UW-Milwaukee chimes in:

The Pat Baldwin era is over at UW-Milwaukee.

On Wednesday afternoon, the day after the Panthers lost their first-round Horizon League tournament game to Illinois-Chicago on their home court, the school announced that Baldwin had been fired after five seasons as coach.

Baldwin departs with an overall record of 57-92 and a 34-59 mark in Horizon League play.

“On behalf of our entire program and the Panthers community, we thank Coach Baldwin for his tireless work and for his time as the head coach of our program,” athletic director Amanda Braun said in a statement.

“We appreciate Pat’s genuine commitment to our student-athletes, whether that was on the court, in the classroom or as a mentor to young adults. We certainly wish him and his family all the best moving forward.”

UMass chimes in:

UMass has fired men's basketball coach Matt McCall, the school announced Tuesday.

McCall will continue coaching the Minutemen through the conclusion of the Atlantic 10 tournament, according to a school statement.

"Matt poured himself in to this role and has been a great teammate and partner as we worked to build a championship program. Unfortunately, we have not met the results we desire on the court and I believe a change at the end of the season is in the best interest of the program," UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford said in a statement. "I am grateful that Matt and I shared a mutual desire to have him finish the 2021-2022 campaign with the men in our program over the coming weeks."

It’s being reported that South Dakota has fired Todd Lee. I actually thought he did a pretty good job there, that’s a tough job always have SDSU and NDSU to contend with.

That one is surprising

Crean fired at Georgia after a 6-26 season. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

His four year overall winning percentage was 38.5% with a regular season conference winning percentage of 20.8%. His predecessor, Mark Fox, was fired after nine years and an overall winning percentage of 55.1%.

Crean probably was the closest P6 coach to Ben when it came to the amount of production that needed to be replaced in the 2021 offseason. So, when we think of our season, we should remember that it could have been worse. Crean was a coach with oodles of high level major college head coaching experience who could point recruits to multiple points of high level success in his career. By my count, Crean coached teams sent 16 players to the NBA.

Georgia is also located in a more desirable area with a much better regional recruiting base than Minnesota. Now, I know some will say: "football school!" but almost all SEC schools are football schools and most of them have done better than Georgia lately.

Crean is 55 years old and likely will get another head coaching job although maybe not at the P6 level for the next one.

Crean was excellent as a TV analyst the one year he did it. Like really good. He should just stick to that from here on out.

Frankly, at this point in his life, that probably would be a better career option. I'm sure there are a lot more miserable college basketball coaches than miserable TV sports analysts.

Good insight. Also Craig Smith at Utah had a ton of turnover as a new coach, in addition to being a potential Gopher coach. They went 11-20, including 4-16 in the conference.

I'm still optimistic about CBJ overall. Recruiting seems strong which is the lifeblood of the program, and I was impressed with what they did with the squad early in the season. Yeah lots of moral victories too, but we were so close to beating Wisconsin and MSU too.

I think you're right...I think a lot of these guys and their egos thrive on being the center of attention and power, though. Which they don't get as TV analysts.
