Nnamdi Adim-Madumere in the portal as well

I agree with you. Having game film, especially game film showing he can compete at the B1G level is a huge plus for the guys hitting the portal.
You wonder how much this may weigh into coaches decisions on how to use players. For example, the 4 game rule is great because it gives guys a chance to play and still redshirt. However now, it also gives other teams a chance to see a player in actual game action.

Who knows. But it is clear having game film gives the players more leverage for sure.

Ky is taking less of a risk than ZA; who in turn is taking less risk than Clark.

Boyd didn't play a lot of snaps. He caught two balls and I think got a target in 4. You're overthinking this one Grandpa. We don't need 8 receivers.
Brady played 170 snaps in 2021 as a true freshman. That is a lot of snaps. He moved past several WRs who have been with the program for 2 or 3 years, who have taken zero or very few snaps. Texas Tech article is source of snaps number, attached. https://texastech.rivals.com/news/transfer-wr-brady-boyd-returns-home-to-texas-tech

So what? Maybe he was a little better than some of the older guys. That doesn't mean they can't also be good. He played less than at least 4 other WRs who are back. We've never ran a ton of WRs under Fleck.

I know that a true freshman, Brady Boyd, played a lot of snaps at WR this year, and that several WRs who have been in the program 2 or 3 years have hardly seen the field. That tells me something. Hope I’m wrong about WR depth. More than willing to admit it if Brockington, Emelien or someone else gets a lot of play next season.
I hope Meke & Emelien don't see a lot of playing time. CrAB/Daniel Jackson/MBS/Wright is a full house. What I hope to see is great improvement from Wright & Jackson. I would like to see Meke & Emelien sprinkled in though.

Yeah, I get the disappointment about Boyd leaving but the fact that he was out there blocking over some of the other guys really isn't that big a deal. Had he been an active part of the passing game, hauling in tough catches, and making plays that would something different.

Sorry to see him go, never want to see players who look like they might be able to help us leave, but it is what it is. We have other options at WR and will be fine.

It's always tough to know how big a gap their is between a back up and the person playing over them.

You said Boyd didn’t play many snaps. I’m just pointing out that he played 170 snaps as a true freshman. Just stating a fact. Make of it what you will.

The fact he was on the field as a true freshman ahead of 2nd and 3rd year players means he was better than the other options. Can't be "so what".

9 games, 2 catches for 18 yards. I'm sorry to see him go, I just don't see it as a massive loss. Think we will be just fine at the WR position.

Not a massive loss. Neither is Ky Thomas. We'll be ok at both WR and RB. But I don't really understand the need to downplay Boyd when he got on the field as a true freshman ahead of highly recruited guys who have been here a year and two years longer.

I really don't know how much of it is downplaying his contributions as much as just not being blown away by them. Yes, due to injury he saw the field this year. And yes, he saw the field over some guys who had been in the program longer than he had. Clearly the coaches trusted him to go out and block more than some of the others on the roster in 2021.

But he was a non-factor as a pass catcher in the games he played in. In the end there really is no point getting overly worked up about it either way. For one reason or another he didn't want to be here so we all move on.

Disagree.

Both were FR with at least three years to play. Thomas was very good for a young player and will only get better.

I think ZA is taking a bigger risk than Clark.

There are two options:
(1) Athan is the clear #2.
  • In this scenario, neither of them really took a risk. They were behind at least 1 player who has more eligibility than them for the backup position.
(2) Athan is not the clear #2
  • In this scenario, ZA walked away from being the backup and likely heir apparent to starting in the Big 10. He only has two seasons left to play football, so anywhere he goes, he'll need a pretty clear path to playing time for the situation to have been more appealing than backup/heir apparent at a Big 10 school. For Clark, he has three seasons of eligibility left, so he does not need to find a landing spot where he will see immediate playing time.

Disagree.

Yeah, they were two FR who played a lot on offense at skill positions. We can obviously pivot and be fine, but they are talented guys and would have helped us win football games.

When the discussion is about whether the other wrs are any good or not, it is a so what. The discussion isn't about whether Boyd was good or not.

Maybe but I think the players POV matters more than just exposure and NOT even playing them at all…. sends a different message.

They likely would've helped, but I think Fleck can easily bring in wrs with as much or more promise than Boyd. He has every year. To a lesser extent the same applies to RB.

This sounds like a good fit for him, I wish him well.

I agree Fleck can do that. But apparently he did not do that for a couple of years since Boyd played ahead of the guys one and two years ahead of him.

By this standard, losing Tyler Johnson or CAB after their true freshmen years wouldn't have been a massive loss.

Were you blown away by anyone's contributions in this year's feebly orchestrated passing game (maybe, maybe CAB??)? Was it even possible for any of the receivers to show their best?
Injury had nothing to do with Boyd playing over longer-tenured receivers. If anything, an in-season injury would be less reason to pull a redshirt.

Once again, it's possible to both acknowledge setbacks as being such and still be positive about the future. Peaks and troughs as PJ's chart illustrated.

Nnamdi was listed as having a Bama offer out of high school. A little disappointed we couldn't get more out of him.

Well considering he ended up at Central Arkansas I am going to say that is more on him than us...

I agree Fleck can do that. But apparently he did not do that for a couple of years since Boyd played ahead of the guys one and two years ahead of him.
This has been blown out of proportion. He only played ahead of 2 older players, Mann and Emilien. He played ahead of the other wrs brought in the SAME year as him, except for Dylan Wright.

Whose name is in the title of this thread? Was he here before Boyd?
