I don’t think Lakeville South is as good as they’ve been. But it doesn’t matter because they keep winning: down year in 6a in my opinion

Didn’t think Kasson could beat Becker but they did: don’t think they can’t beat Hutch but I hope they can.

I hope Mankato west beats the metro team. 6a was created so out state schools that were big could compete for state titles. I hate when suburban schools win 5a

Don’t know much about the lower level teams

Woah. Mayer Lutheran has to take on the entire state? Well, good luck, Crusaders.

Feck, I even looked it over like twice to make sure I spelled everything correct. Well, I did spell it all correct I guess. Lol

Oh, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that mistake has been made hundreds of times and printed in pretty much every small town newspaper in SW Minnesota.

Minneota is a tiny farm village that's 12 miles from Marshall.

I'm surprised kids in that town (and the surrounding farms) don't just attend Marshall schools.

East Metro needs love too! :)

Minneota has 9 shutouts on the year, Mankato West had 6

I read yesterday that Mankato West’s defense has scored more TD’s then they have given up.

Interesting fact that Mahtomedi, Rogers, Chaska, and Cooper are all part of the same preseason scrimmage. West will have to beat 3 of them to win the title and Cooper was also in state tournament.

4 Teams are from section 1.

Becker beat Hutchinson this year and Kasson-Mantorville beat Becker.

Kasson lost 14-7 to Mankato East and East lost 23-20 to West.

Overall I think the matchups are pretty good.

I think L-O blasts Fertile. Their QB is an incredibly quick kid and their FB is just a tank running downhill. I think Chatfield beats West Central pretty handily as well even without their stud QB. Both the AA and 9-man Section 1 are loaded with good teams... I think the 9-man state championship was Leroy-Lanesboro in that section final. Goodhue was pretty solid against Chatfield in the section final, but I think the Barnesville game was the championship game in that Class. I'm not sure on the AAA game. I didn't think PEM could handle Annandale with their huge line, but PEM just has athletes that make plays. I'm sure Dassel-Cokato will dwarf them up front, but maybe they make enough plays to win? I also didn't think that Kasson could beat Becker, but they were able to make that last play for a TD, although a flag technically should have been thrown as they released a covered TE down the field. The Donovan kid is a tremendous athlete.

Who knows though I could be wrong. Stranger things have happened.

Minneota has won 7 State Titles and had 2 runner-up finishes.

and with a listed enrollment of 177, they are one of the smaller Class A schools. Just a really solid program. this might be one of the best defensive teams they've ever had.

And FWIW, Minneota's VB and Girls BB programs are just as strong as the FB program.

Defenses on some of these teams have been exceptional, hard to pick against Minneota and West
Both Chatfield and West Central have been playing really well on D. Will be interested to see how Chatfield can play and how WC will game plan to stop them without the Chatfield do it all QB.
I'm thinking there will be a few blow outs in these games.

I have a relative on Mayer Lutheran, so I have to go with them all the way. This is their first appearance in the championship game.

Since their first loss of the season (they were missing some of their best players due to disciplinary misconduct), no game has been close. Including the playoffs. They thrashed the #1 ranked 1A team. That said, it would be fun to enjoy a competitive game!

When East and West play you can throw out the records.

Lotta farm boys throwing bales of hay around?

At least in classes 1A - 3A, there should definitely be promotion and relegation. School enrollment doesn't mean jack in these tiny farm schools and the tiny private schools.

Maple Grove’s running back, Derrick Jameson, looks like a stud, kinda surprised he hasn’t gotten more college looks. Mr. Football finalist.

Probably biased being from Maple Grove, but that team looks real good. Have traditionally struggled vs EP but absolutely waxed them last week

I remember visiting Mayer Lutheran as a kid for a basketball game, and I thought it was a large high school. I returned back for a basketball tournament a couple years ago and it surprised me how small the school was.

Growing up really changes your perspective on things.

Elementary schools are bigger than that school.

Does Mayer Lutheran still secretly offer athletic kids free tuition as they had in the past?

Always hated that. New athletic kid would sign on at Mayer Lutheran, and suddenly the Lutheran Churches in the Carver County area are passing the collection plate around for an extra offering to support the High School.

That would leave the Lutheran elementary schools short funded and they were using math books that were torn at the seams with pages falling out, but at least Mayer Lutheran won some basketball games.

I'm sure mom and dad cleaning a classroom 4 times a year or working the concessions stand gets a nice discount for an athlete.

Yeh, or just sending their athletic kid there sometimes did the trick.

Meanwhile, the Lutheran farm kids and their parents would get the monthly milk check from the creamery and need to send about 15% of it to pay for their education. Fortunately, some of those farm kids were athletic as well.

While we wait for the games on Friday and Saturday, this is really cool. KARE11 has put out the all metro teams from 1987 to 2021. Interesting to see where players were from back then. 1987 included players from Edison, Central, Richfield and Coon Rapids.

Yeah this was really cool to go back and look at.
worth a few minutes for anyone interest in MN high school football.

Randy shaver and his obsession with Benild st Margaret’s over the years is annoying at moments but he single handed my elevates Minnesota high school football for going on 30+ years now.
