Because she quoted me in her reply.
I need another coffee. Sorry...I was just reading her post and blipped seeing the quote above.
Because she quoted me in her reply.
I only have a dislike of the dad, spawned when I saw the local piece on Fox 9 where the dad was standing in the front row shouting "great block!" after every play with a Seantrel sweatshirt on (complete embarrassment), and reinforced with every rumor I see.
You just described 75% of the parents at my old high school.
It's pretty easy to determine who a player's parents are at TCF Bank Stadium as well...jerseys, buttons, etc.
Have to disagree with this point, I understand you have had more contact with the situation than most, but if he truly didn't lead the U on, there could have been a quick, no thanks, not going to happen, please stop recruiting me. Brewster can move on and spend time on other prospects. This could have been done 3 years ago, it was quite obvious he not only lead on the U, but the local fans in order to quell any bad feelings locally. BS. Be a man.
A complete mess of a situation has been made of his life due to his parents involvement.
Honestly he would have been better off letting Coach Scanlon from Cretin handle his recruitment, or even some trusted family freind. Anyone outside of influence, then the decision could have been his and his alone. His father's agenda is quite clear: Ride the kid to the NFL and get paid so I can start rapping at age 40.![]()
We certainly weren't in the top 3, the article about his trip to NY to announce with Lemming made it clear the kid wanted nothing to do with Minnesota. Fine then, say it up front and be strong about your decision is all I'm asking.
I'm not even blaming the kid, and I don't hate him. I do hate the way he allowed himself to be controlled and influenced and the way his recruitment was handled. Example A1 of how not to handle the recruitment process.
I could not disagree with you more. You're assuming that SH knew he didnt' want to attend the U 3 years ago, that is not the case. It is not obvious that he led the U on. In fact I KNOW the he was legitmately considering the U one month before he signed.
You mentioned his "parents" as in plural. Do you have ANY idea what so ever what his mothers take and involvement has been in this matter? You mentioned the decision should have been his alone. How do you know it wasn't (I don't think it was either but I don't know for sure)?
I do agree with you that Coach Scanlon should have had a major involvement in his recruiting, however I have not idea if he did or didn't. My question for you is, how do you know he didn't? By the way coach played a major part in my son's recruitment but it still didn't end well (it wasn't coaches fault).
Maybe you have more insight than me but based on what I know about the situation, I would agree that Sean has been an "issue" but I can not agree on anything else you said.
So you'd rather he'd have eliminated Minnesota earlier. That would have made you happy? I'm sure. Then the b!tch would have been that "the turncoat didn't even consider the U of M."
Damned if he did. Damned if he didn't.
This was his decision (insert your tired retort here about how he was influenced, handled, manipulated, etc). It wasn't yours. This is his life. You are simply an interested bystander.
There's a BIG difference between supporting your son and being proud, and drawing attention to yourself. If you haven't seen the Fox 9 piece I'm referring to, you can't really comment.

Hatred for Seantrel? Where are you getting that in my posts? I'm bummed like any fan he didn't pick the hometown, but I never thought he was coming here, and I don't think he owes it to anyone to do anything but whatever he feels is in his best interests. I only have a dislike of the dad, spawned when I saw the local piece on Fox 9 where the dad was standing in the front row shouting "great block!" after every play with a Seantrel sweatshirt on (complete embarrassment), and reinforced with every rumor I see. It's probably not fair to believe in rumors, but man this guy has MORE than his fair share. It's hard to believe that ALL of them are untrue and he's just a good father doing what's best for his son. I agree that Seantrel is a beast, but beasts can bust too, and all the other stuff this kid is having to deal with are not helping his career.
and put our dog in our school colors...does that make her a crazy Mom
Uhm...no comment...
I don't think I'm making ridiculous leaps about this man. Every fan base in the country talks about him in a very negative way. I understand why you would defend him to try to remain impartial. Your folks sound overzealous. As for the Fox 9 piece - that's another, are you kidding me? My parents went to every one of my HS games. My mom even made my school colored scrunchies for my tennis team, and put our dog in our school colors...does that make her a crazy Mom that's riding my coattails for fame? Oh, and my Dad was cheering/yelling so loud at one of my soccer games that he got a red card!
I'm piecing things together from what I can. You're right, these are all not certainties.
The article describing his trip to NY was very revealing and if it was written truthfully, it indicated a complete disregard for Minnesota as an option.
Honestly the only thing I've seen on his mother, was the recruiting video from his trip to OSU. She seemed very passive about the whole experience, which is the right way to go about it, be supportive and have a watchful eye, but not in the middle of the experience.
You are right, I'm assuming things maybe I shouldn't, but the fact that her son's recruitment and college career are in doubt now make me think she wasn't exactly talking common sense into anyone.
Most people outside of USC knows Lane Kiffin is a crook and knew USC was dirty. The commitment was still made. Honestly OSU was the safe and elite program pick.
I don't know whether Coach Scanlon was helping with the recruiting, I'm going to assume he was in some form, but he certainly wasn't the lead decision maker in it all, that would be Sean, he let us know in every interview he did how important he was to recruiting his kid. Everything went through him, and again he let us know in every interview he did.
I guess bottom line is, I feel bad for the kid and am somewhat ashamed at the process, and also appalled at how one of the most heralded local football players in recent history's career seems to be heading, all for what? A rap contract? NFL money that isn't guranteed without dedication and hard work on and off the field? Somebody screwed this up big time.

Sentreal and Royce...... should be Minnesota's HS stars in college, instead they will both be complete wastes'. how sad.
