All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

I saw a post that the staff visited Carrington this morning at his High School. There is definitely an additional effort being put into recruiting and developing relationships with players that I didn’t see with Pitino. This is just my two cents, but I feel like these types of things get noticed by others within the state and basketball community.

Sounds like we're in the driver's seat for Pierre after his visit.

The following class would be a phenomenal start to the Ben Johnson era:

PG- Jayden Pierre
SG- Braedon Carrington
SF- Ryan Dunn
Combo- Joshua Ola-Joseph
Big- Pharrel Payne
Agreed I think we sit well Pierre too and those would be five guys that IMO will all contribute for four years. My gut says the fifth will be Miles Byrd and not Dunn. I would prefer Dunn because he has 30-35 lbs on Byrd, but longterm if Byrd adds weight I think he can be just as good. Great shooter! But I think it's us or Dutcher at SDSU for Byrd and if Dunn doesn't pull the trigger and waits to commit, Byrd visits here in late September, by then it's probably going to be first come first serve for that fifth spot.

Maybe, maybe not if we just didn't hear about it

does anybody here speak whalenfan?
My translation: Jayden Pierre has told staff he is committed but they want to let him announce it. So they somehow got Dushawn London to remove his crystal ball prediction. Ryan Burns also posted that there was positive news coming last night. That's a total guess on my part, who knows.

There must be a post on 247 regarding Pierre. A 247 guy had a crystal ball up but took it down. He didn't take it down because he lost confidence in the crystal ball, but more likely because he was asked by someone close to him.

i was thinking he took it down because someone told him he was wrong. doesn't he get cred for CBs that are correct and early? sounds like someone wants to get to the station before the train leaves though.

That could be, but I was speaking whalenfan for you who seems to have decent info most times.

My instinct is that we'll get a report soon about how great Dunn's visit went & right about when Pierre commits Dunn will too. No inside info, just that Pierre & Dunn were HS teammates who chose to visit Mn together. Pierre reportedly LOVED his visit, so I imagine Dunn most likely had a similar, positive experience. Dunn has also said how much he appreciates Mn offering him before the rest of the offers flooded in, and that would factor in.

dunn has his HS diploma. has anyone checked the student directory to see if he's in it?

As i posted earlier, Dunn is in play. Those close to him say UVA can have him but it appears they have moved on as they have filled wings with Mckeely and Bond. OSU is a threat.
Supposedly, Ryan Dunn is visiting Virginia this weekend. Coach Bennett is said to be visiting Sunrise Christian's open gym to view Bobi Klintman either today or tomorrow. I have no idea if the staff has a preference, but I suspect the first one to say, "I'll take it!" will get the scholarship and end UVa's 2022 recruiting. As always, my posts are gross speculation as I have no inside information.

Thompson’s probably never going to be a great post defender but give Payne a couple years in a college S&C program and he should be able to handle those guys. The Gophers need to build for March where versatility wins.
That last point is very true. I’m perfectly happy with a flexible team who can move inside outside at all positions. There’s a reason the days of a backdown post guy are becoming fewer and fewer. The value Of those shots Has gone down

Bennett was at open gym for Greg Jackson today and is heavily involved with two 2023 guards but appears to have gone back to Dunn as Dunn will visit on Saturday. Pretty surprised by this because there is a very deep depth issue at combo.

I think Thompson is gonna be a real good player, just seems like more of a stretch 4 that can provide minutes at 5 in a pinch rather than a true center
and treyton should be an asset on fast breaks. the guy can scoot

Yep. Evidently, the trip to Kansas was never a thing. It appears the focus will be on Dunn, for the moment.
