Week 1 Other Games Thread

My Friday night rankings:

1. VA Tech (W)
2. North Carolina (L)
3. SDSU (W)
4. Michigan St. (W)
5. Wake Forest (W)
6. Colorado (W)
7. Kansas (W)
8. Charlotte (W)
9. South Dakota (L)
10. Duke (L)
11. E. Michigan (L)
12. Colorado St (L)
13. Northwestern (L)
14. Old Dominion (L)
15. N. Colorado (L)
16. St. Francis - PA (L)

Northwestern is always such a jekyll and hyde team, even in their good seasons. They won the west in 2018 after starting the season 1-3 with a loss to a 4-8 Akron team. They also lost to a terrible Michigan St team last season and still won the west.

I think they will be pretty mediocre this season, but you just never know until we get later into the fall.

With Northwestern, you seem to be far better off playing them early in the year vs late.
Fitz will take a scrap of random men and have them playing sound defense after 6-7 weeks.

An offense with Hunter Johnson at QB just hasn't been proven to be potent enough though.
Last night they looked like a team that will finish 2nd last in the Big Ten West.

Some solid games today.
Obviously Georgia Clemson tonight as well as PSU-WI and IA-IN, but other intriguing Big Ten matchup's.

Maryland vs WV should be good.
I'll have to watch a bit of Fordham vs Nebraska. Nebraska will win by 35 points.
Oregon St at Purdue. - A chance to see what Purdue looks like. Should be bottom half of Big Ten West but maybe they'll look good.

Lane Kiffin is apparently out for the matchup against Louisville on Monday due to covid. Joey Freshwater ain’t worried though. His immune system has seen far worse.

So, ahead of Nebraska? :sneaky:

Johnson wasn't the issue last night though. He completed 70% of his passes for 275 yds and 3 TDs, no INTs. The defense and the running game were the issue, and those could improve as the season goes on.

Which is opposite of their problems in 2019.

games to watch

11am: PSU/wisco, western/Michigan, Fordham/Nebraska
2:30ish: Indiana/Iowa, wvu/Maryland, Alabama/Miami, Louisiana/Texas
6/7pm: GA/Clemson, LSU/UCLA, Texas tech/Houston, UTSA/Illinois (see if Illinois is awful)

That’s because MSU sucks

They just sneak in a division title every so often, don't they. While everyone else is focused on Iowa and Wisconsin. Wish we could do that.

Yeah, but on those passing yards, MSU was giving up those underneath routes with a 21 point lead and the game in hand...

Whole panel on FOX taking Wisconsin.

Wisconsin stole a page from PJ'S playbook and took a timeout on the game's second play.
It appears to have worked out for them.

Great defense so far on both sides.

Let me know when Metz completes a pass more than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Mertz got lucky on the nom-fumble call. I could see that going either way.

Tulane showing Oklahoma's defense is worse than the Gophers.

It was nice of Fordham to let Nebraska hang around, but they’ll probably start pouring it on now.

Wisconsin's new running back seems easy to tackle

This WI v PSU game is quite different than ours. Really great defense so far.

And now a blocked FG!

And Wenger coaching Wisconsin's field goal team
