All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Can we get C Ernest udeh along with Denzel? Like seeing the gpas on their Twitter. Denzels is 3.6.

When you identify and offer early you have a chance they will commit early. Most wait for better offers but once in awhile the player cares who was early and often. Dave Thorson sees things that other people can not see. He knows about intangibles like court sense, propriorception , when skills trump talent, leadership qualities, the value of calm assertive behavior, grades, what is a kid like at school, what kind of family etc....
Have you ever seen Thorson coach? If so, I doubt you would include calm assertive behavior with him.

Jaden Schutt is another that we were in on early, and now he has blown up. Believe he has a Duke offer. Can’t be mad at their talent evaluation so far.
Coaches have known about Schutt for several years. No special evaluation needed. Heck, he made 17 threes in a single game as a sophomore. Michigan State has been on him for a long time and he has made three visits to their campus. He is a priority recruit for Illinois, too. Duke offered recently.

Payne visiting next Sat. JOJ the Wed after that. Two out of state propsects the Thurs (following week) after that.

Don't think we can expect commits before those visits, but hopefully during them at least for the first two.
So 247 is reporting the JOJ visit August 25th....but he is taking his official here September 24th-26th....he has retweeted that tweet and the other site has said it was moved to then as it worked for his mom to be along.....i think....

August 21st-Pharrel Payne

September 2nd (OSU Football game) Jayden Peirre PG & Ryan Dunn Wing

September 24th-JOJ

i think those are all the confirmed visits so far?

Oop! I did see that in JOJ thread, and was just recapping what the public 247 visits page showed.

Granted, the public profiles for both Payne and JOJ show them as "cool" on the Gophers ..... even though they have official visits scheduled .... so take it for what it's worth (nothing, it's free!)

solid group of finalist to be in....247 has him labeled as a SG but Rivals and Verbals has him as a PG.....so maybe more combo guard? Anybody have more information on him other then being from the same school as our current guard Thiam?

Edit: 247 says he's warm to Ole Miss and Providence, neither in the final 6. Another reason to take their info with a grain of salt, especially this year.

Enlightening us
Yes...animated, intimidating refs, loud, etc. as a head coach. He was well known for that at DeLaSalle. As an assistant at the college level, he has to take a different role and we won't see that in him as assistants can't behave that way and even if he was a head coach, he would not be able to act that way in today's world. Great teacher, holds players to a high standard, but did not model the behavior he would expect out of his players as a head coach at the high school level. Today, I am sure he would look back at how he behaved and agree he could have acted better, especially with the officials.

Yeah a lot of his animation and yelling was within the game. The times I saw him he was never terrible with officials, but I only saw him 8-10 times and most of those were at state tournaments where I didn’t have a real view so I don’t doubt you. The times I coached against him he was animated but it was mostly about defensive positioning and to have hands out and try to tip passes. He’s still loud on the bench as an assistant when I watched CSU games you’d see him, but he’s less animated than when he was the HC obviously cause he has to sit.

here is a decent article for him....has a breakdown of each school.....Thompson certainly seems to be doing his part....

looks to be in the combo forward mold like JOJ, Smith, & Green that Johnson has been going after.

as long as thompson is helping with chisom, perhaps he could pitch in to get us on the map with JJ Starling. starling was the PG on thompson's team last year.
might as well throw in Kebba Njie.....another top 100 recruit from that team as well....

and sign up the 2 top 50 kids in the 2023 class on that team as well
