All Things 2021 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

starts way before Gard and Bennett. It is more about knowing how much coaches have going on with recruiting than most could imagine. Do fans even know about dead periods, 1st weekend live, what has been said.

So, we going with the roster as is? It’s awfully quiet for needing preferably two bigs.

The predictions of Eric Curry suiting up might come true yet!

The deadline for players to pull out of the NBA Draft and maintain their college eligibility is July 7. If there are any more commits it’s probably not long after that.

Thank you! For some reason I thought it was July 1st.

Really hope to hear some good news regarding Sterling Manley in the next day or so. We really have to have him if we have any hope of being a somewhat competitive team this upcoming season.

if curry plays, doesn't count against the 13 scholarships?

I think most fans who follow recruiting are aware of dead periods and things like that. It’s public knowledge and many coaches (like Lindsay Whalen) post about them often.

Curry only puts us at 12 and I think we can go over 13.

I only count 11 with Curry. I assumed the kid from Johns Hopkins and the local freshman are walk ons.

Guards: player from Lafayette, player from William and Mary, player from New Hampshire, Willis, player from the junior college

Front court: Battle, Fox, Ihnen, Daniels, Thompson, Curry

Am I missing someone?

Seneca Knight is from Louisiana but he played at San Jose State. He's really had an up and down career. Good in his second year there (19-20) but terrible last season. He seems more of a small forward.

Your count looks right to me and you’re for sure right about the two being walks ons. Currys scholarship doesn’t count technically anyways since he’s a senior. I’m guessing we add one more only. Maybe two of the right person presented themselves.

Curry doesn't count. We have 3 left. Seniors can return for the "lost covid season" without being charged against the scholarship limit.

From what I can tell this is our roster with Curry and the walk-ons not using scholarships, we have 3 left:
PG: Eyliah Stephens,

CG: Payton Willis, Luke Loewe, Sean Sutherlin, Abdoulaye Thiam

SG: Jackson Purcell (Walk-On), Joey Kern (Walk-On)

SF: Parker Fox, Jamison Battle

PF: Charlie Daniels, Eric Curry, Isaiah Ihnen

C: Treyton Thompson

And Daniels still doesn’t appear on the roster (though Curry was added pretty quickly). If Daniels falls through, it makes the Curry news a little more understandable (we’re truly in a world of hurt).

I believe Daniels is still completing coursework at old school so has yet to officially enroll at Minnesota.

steffon mitchell staying in the nba draft, per jon rothstein. does this mean zero probability of a return to school, any school?

Yes, I think if you participated in the combine and aren't drafted you can stay in the draft and still go back to college. If no combine and stay in the draft you are done.

Yeah, that's pretty disappointing. He was our last shot to get any sort of size and rim protection. We're going to get killed in the paint this season.

EDIT: Maybe it's just me, but I don't see an announcement here.
