All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Same thing was said about Pitino when he took over from Tubby. I’ll believe it when I see some results.
There are degrees along a progression. 3 is much more than 1 and 8 is much more than 3.

I never heard it about Pitino. I heard it about his staff (Ben Johnson....). Results will be what matters though in the end sure.

Yeah, but why would local coaches say that about a coach who they didn't like to begin with. I remember some posters saying that despite RP being very likable, local coaches never gave him a chance.

I think hearing it from the kids he actually recruited would have more weight. Most local hoop coaches are not that involved in top kids recruiting. There are so many articles to back this up

Early on Pitino was liked cause he was new and he brought in Ben Johnson, Jarvis Johnson, Amir and others. . The not liking to begin with is non true. Also my post was on how hard Ben’s working on the trail. That’s information that local coaches know. Didn’t mention on whether or not they influence decisions.

Pitino had a pee wee factor. People liked his name but he lacked a cool factor and was not impressive to many recruits and their families. Never came across as bright or interesting or charismatic.

I just want to watch fundamental basketball. I can except losing if you play the game the right way

I was just kidding! It seems all visits are like that it seems. Waiting for just once for someone to come out and say I'm committed!

Total guess, but I'd say Payne based on catching him on the rise and because Carrington has some other solid P6 offers.
That’s my guess too, but Carrington seems like the most likely competition. Be on a visit and watched a practice, plus we got other wings visiting. So I could easily see both of them on board in the next 2-3 weeks. Be a great start to the class and appease all the we need locals people lol

Looks like it could be Payne! Hopefully tomorrow we have a Denzel boom. Carrington might be close behind.

So I just looked him up on 247 and rivals. I knew he was considered under the radar but is he even ranked like at all? (he didn't show up)

How under the radar is he?

Keep in mind, his only other offer is loyola chicago, which sound nice but i just looked up their school recruiting rankings over the last several years.

161 2020 etc..

Is he expected to blow up that much? or is he going to be a project?

Apparently he has just been dominating this summer in aau. And some really smart people have taken notice. It is scary to think that he is only 16 and will probably only get bigger.

He’s not on a very reknowned high school team and not t on one of the big 3 shoe AAU teams that actually traveled nationally last year. Under normal years he would’ve been more on the radar, but he also is young and just really improved. Bigs will do that at a later age sometimes. Also 247 rankings havent been updated in awhile. I bet he’s at worse top 125 when they redo them.

The thing that will hurt him is those national 247 and rivals guys havent seen him play yet and arent gonna be watching his MNselect team most likely. Hes only had 1 weekend to play live in front of coaches and that was mostly pickup type basketball where bigs didnt get many touches. Aslo Rj said Illinois and Texas contacted him this week. Getting him locked up before next weeks live period would be a really good thing.

But his dad did?

He's already blowing up. He's not rated because there was no AAU last year due to COVID, so there were no evaluations. Gophers want him badly and they probably want a commitment sooner rather than later so the big name schools don't come calling.

Ben Johnson's first class starts with (hopefully) Payne, Carrington and Tre Holloman.

That is the ideal class for the most part and would be a great start to his tenure
