Hmmm, what does that mean? Is he allowing him to play if legal issues are unresolved, or is it not out of the question?

Maturi says he's willing to investigate the causes of the delays in Trevor's trial and possibly re-evaluate his decision.

Sorry if there is an obvious answer to this question... I have been taking a break from following the Gophers for the past couple months...

How in the world could Trevor's trial not be resolved by the time next season begins? Is this really a possibility?
 

Why didn't they just let Royce play when he pushed his hand and said he was going to leave. Do you think this means they might also let Royce back (if the rumors of him asking Tubby to come back are true)? It would only seem right. I say it would be right, because Trevors charges could be a lot worse than anything Royce did.
 

YESS!! Tubby probably had to talk some sense into maturi. Im guessing Tubby told Maturi straight up that if Mbakwe doesn't play the gophs win 8-9 games in the big ten this year.

There are a million reasons why the case may not be fully resolved in the next several months. Absolutely it's really a possibility. I do think in this matter the judge may be getting a bit perturbed, but that doesn't mean a trial, if one ever occurs, will come sooner than later.
 

I hope Maturi takes a chance on Trevor. But, there should be no doubt that if he plays and is found guilty, all the risk rests with Tubby and Joel.

It certainly would be unbelievable if it coninued that long. I would guess this is a pre-emptive strike against schools that the U fears will tell Trevor that he can play next fall if his status is still pending. I have to believe that Tubby has demanded that Maturi gives him a level playing field to work with so that Mbakwe feels supported at least as well here as anywhere else. Face it - there's three outcomes possible here:

Continued delays - up to the school if he can play
Case closed- Trevor is acquitted or case dropped - he can play here or anywhere
Case closed- Trevor guilty- he's toast for college buckets
 

So in four tweets from Myron it went from:

1. Maturi is going to let Mbakwe play even if his case is not resolved.
2. Maturi is going to re-evaluate his decision.
3. Maturi needs compelling evidence to change his mind.
4. Tubby may ask if Trevor can play because he has suffered enough.

Is this really news? It sounds like nothing has changed, but Maturi might re-evaluate his decision if there is compelling evidence in the case.

I'm guessing it has more to deal with how both young men handled the situations, rather than what they were charged with. 1st of all, Royce plead gulity, Trevor is innocent until proven guilty (even thought it doesn't feel like it). I'm also guessing that they saw that Trevor has suffered enough - that's what Myron Tweeted. And that he's probably done everything asked of him, and has been a great teammate. Which makes me believe these situations are very different, and individual.

Gold, I must have missed it. Where did Myron say #1? GL's first post says, "Letting Trevor Mbakwe play next season, even if legal issues are unresolved, not out of the question." That pretty much covers scenarios 2-4 that you outline, but I missed the more certain post from Myron that you quote or paraphrase in #1.

Wasn't it already assumed that if his legal situation was resolved that he would be able to play? That was kind of the point I was getting at. If he needs significant evidence to let him play without his case being resolved, then what was the point of the first tweet?

So true. Also, here we have a situation where Trevor's defense is that they've ID'ed the wrong person. That is, he claims no involvement whatsoever in the horrific violence against the victim.

This is much different from a situation like Royce's or the football players from a few years back where it was undisputed that they were involved in unsavory situations that reflected poorly on the U regardless of whether they were later convicted of crimes.
 

This is terrible news. Not for Trevor, but for our AD. Here's why:

By potentially reversing his earlier decision to not let Trevor play while charges are pending:

At best, it proves he is entertaining the thought of breaking his tough stance on players under investigation like Trevor and Royce. This was the one thing many were still commending him on throughout all the troubles. Not anymore.

At worst, it proves he didn't fully understand the entire situation with the case, the pending investigation, and the circumstances before making a decision that has a profound impact on the lives of many young men including Trevor. His job description calls for making appropriate decision-making when it comes to these matters. One would hope he would gather as much information as possible before doing so.

It has also recently come out that he let the MEDIA play a part in Trevor's situation. It has been reported that if others wouldn't have gotten into trouble and the media made it a big issue, Trevor would have played last year. What kind of AD makes important decisions by a) not factoring in all of the evidence possible, and b) by letting the media play such an important role in a decision that is ultimately his?

Troubling, to say the very least.
 

After further reveiw, jurior Maturi stills thinks he guilty and won't let him play.Yeah right.

If that. I would think that with all the player losses, 8-9 wins would be the top end.
 


I definitely agree with that. His comments don't really make much sense to me. I have a feeling that this is just another stall tactic for Maturi to give Trevor some (false) hope.

Trevor asked for his release. Even if Maturi changes his mind, does Trevor even want to be a Gopher?

I don't think Trevor would have hung around all year if he didn't want to be a Gopher...but I think he wants to play in general, over being a Gopher. If he can't play here, he just wants to play somewhere and finish up his eligibility before he's 32! ;)
