All Things 2021 NCAA College Basketball March Madness Tournament Thread

Somewhere I have one of the last ones that was made. 2008 or so. It had Lawrence McKenzie and he was good.

Yeah I have one of the last ones too....as well as one of the last college hoops games. But both of those are unplayable unlike NCAA Football 14.

That was a great game. Was pulling for NDSU but I loved the no call.
It would have been an easy whistle for the other 39 minutes of that game. Might as well tackle the guy at the end of games. I generally agree with you though.

Oregon St / Loyola going to be a heck of a game. OSU very impressive

Oral Roberts pulls it off. And Muss and Arkansas are

For sure. My interest in other sports' postseasons drops close to zero once minnesota teams are eliminated. NCAA bb is the exception. Never disappoints.

The Big Ten was the most overrated conference this season and almost every season.

There's a reason it's been 20 years since a Big Ten team won a natty.

Lots of hype no results.

A good coach should be able to succeed at Minnesota with this weak @ss conference.
Strongly disagree.

people mistake depth for talent at the top.
not the same thing. The big ten probably had 12 top 50 teams this year. Probably had 13 top 75 teams this year.
Probably has only 1-2 top 15 teams.

Michigan state beating overrated duke and Kentucky early got the conference overrated and the short non conference didn’t provide enough results to disagree with it.
Wisconsin lost to Marquette.
Illinois lost to Missouri
Purdue got 4th in the league with losses to Clemson and Miami

people going into this tourney thinking the big ten had 4-5 of the top 10 teams didn’t really have a big enough sample size to make that judgement

Yeah. It’s way better than anything else.

one game elimination. 2 hour games. A lot of games. Nothing else can compete.
football is too slow.
NBA is too many games.
NHL is too many games.
baseball playoff too many games

Yeah, nba needs to figure out how to do single game elim. tourneys. Maybe do two - one at halfway point and one at end of season. Winners of the two tourneys meet in a one game playoff. TV ratings would be epic as every game would be do or die. Unfortunately it will never happen.

When will those leagues figure out that more isn't better? I've got a long attention span compared to most people, and I can't pay attention for that long. Before 1985 MLB was a five-game LCS and a seven-game WS. That was so intense! Their solution to un-popularity is to add games and gimmicks, and they're not smart enough to realize that all they're doing is watering it down. Why not just have a two-month season and a five-month playoff where everyone is invited except Pittsburgh?

Well more may not be better, they aren’t in the business of putting out the best product for the common fan. They’re in the business of making the most money.

I think series playoffs work well for the NBA but I didn't like when they expanded the series. As I recall, used to be that the first round was best of three, next round was best of five, and the last two rounds were best of seven.

In the pro leagues the playoffs are more designed to end with the best team as the champion. The NCAA tournament kind of does that, but with single elimination you are going to have more upsets and a much lower likelihood of ending with the best team.

100%. NCAA better from a fan's perspective, but nba better chance of ending with the best team winning.

I agree.

The NBA had to increase the number of "play off " games because those are the only games most players really play hard.
I find the NBA not entertaining.

NBA playoffs are 52-105 games. With 16 teams.

NCAA tourney is 67 games with 68 teams.

NBA is about money. Also about what you said. If NBA had an NCAA style tourney there would be a 15 game nba playoff

The only way I would watch NBA playoffs is if my team were a participant. In my teams case. they haven't been in the playoffs for years and don't seem likely to be for years to come. Give me the NCAA even without the Gophers.

There is so much money attached to every game. If the NBA finals goes 4 games instead of 7 it leads to a lower salary cap. Think about that.

Count me as someone who thinks that irrelevance is not a money maker. Show me proof that a watered-down product is more profitable.

I mean the NBA makes around 8 billion dollars per year.

I would think a 50 game schedule would get more viewers than 82...but they’ve decided 82 is their deal. Maybe their model will shift.

the proof that they think it is more profitable is the fact that they do it.

Oh, for sure. I'm just looking at it from a fan's perspective. Have midseason and endof season single elim tourneys. Winners meet for a one game championship tilt. Include all 32 teams. People would be filling out brackets like the ncaa. Much more fun than the eternity that at present is the nba playoffs.

Me as well. Watched the playoffs for timberwolves or for Mike Jordan. Wont watch any of it this season. However i would watch if nba used ncaa single elim format.

Again, I never take it for granted that pro league owners automatically know what's best. That's lemming thinking.

For sure. You should start another pro basketball league with a superior business model. You’ll make billions

Not my bag, baby. I'm too busy revolutionizing my own industry--in other words, taking it from an obsolete business model to the one of the future. As you might expect, there's plenty of resistance from people who claim that the proof that the old way is the best way is the fact that we've always done it.

For sure, you’re right. The NBA is an obsolete model. Lol

Loving the tourney, now that my board is junk. Interesting to see how good coaches make adjustments during the games and watching the David's beat up on the Goliaths.

Football will always be king in Fargo.

One day (hopefully sooner than later) they'll realize that there's literally nothing left to prove in FCS and only can go down from here, and will move up to FBS independent as Liberty has already proven is allowed.
