Carr in transfer portal

Total rebuild for new coach. Any finish better than 13th in B10 will be a success.

with he and Mash looking elsewhere....i guess the new coach will certainly be able to use playing time and the fact that he needs to replace 695 shots for next year......

Yeah I figured he was gone also. It’s really not a bad move even if a player is waiting to see who the new coach is. They can always take themselves out of the portal.

Since he's already transferred once in his career, does he still get the one-time exemption to transfer without sitting out a year, or because he was forced to sit, he would get that exemption? Kind of the opposite, potentially, of Robbins.

TBD. I don’t see him sitting another year though. He’d be almost 24 when finishing his career.

Did anyone actually expect him back?
I assumed transfer or draft/pro ball. If he plays college ball maybe he stays but I don't know why he would. think almost everyone thought he'd be gone when I made a poll but I can't find it now.

My question, too. My guess is he takes a pro option overseas or maybe a two way undrafted free agent. I don't bet but I highly doubt he's playing college ball next year.

All bets are off on what anyone does until we hire a new coach. If I was a Gopher player, I'd have my name in the portal just to check the market in case the new coach is not who I want or is thinking of a style of play I don't want.

This however, is the issue with firing coaches. Total rebuild is likely. It's the right thing this year but if could be painful without a homerun hire.

I enjoyed several Carr highlights during his time here, but he is not a very good floor general. Despite all the attention he received every game, he struggled to find guys for easy baskets and don't remember anyone ever accusing him of making other players around him better. In three seasons of college basketball he has not been part of a winning team, not all his fault, but when your usage rate is as high as his is, he will get most of the credit and blame for how the team plays. Expected him to be gone no matter what, if he does return to college hoops I hope he has a chance to win somewhere.

Carr would have to change his game big time no Big Time school is bringing him in to jack up shots. A move laterally to another average to below average team makes no sense. He will go pro IMO

You are kidding yourself if you believe this. He will be one of, the most highly sought after guards in the portal.

Just because he was a jacker here doesn't mean a strong coach can't reign him in.

I predict he'll still go pro. Nothing wrong with getting a little love in the meantime. I bet Tom Crean will be in his DM's ASAP.

Waiting fir the other shoe to drop. Robbins entering the portal. Makes U job a lot less attractive!

As everyone else was saying I didn't expect him back. There is plenty of room at guard next year for Minnesota.

They better hire a new coach by this weekend!

I'd like to see how he would play under a new coach and I would rather it be here!

If you're in the portal, you no longer have a lock on a scholarship so you're putting your college degree at risk. You can take your name out of the portal, but the school does not have to put you back on scholarship.

But I can’t imagine in the Gophers situation that they wouldn’t take him or Mashburn back.

As others have said, with the free transfer rule, this was to be expected. It wouldn't shock me to see others enter as well, at least until the coach is figured out. If Pitino was canned a couple years ago when he should have been, less players would have left, as they would have had to sit out a year to move. But this is now the cost of doing business when you have a coaching change.

The free market giveth and taketh away. This also means the new coach will be able to probably pluck a number of pretty good transfer players in next year with the promise of playing time. This squad finished 13 out of 14 teams. Not sure why anybody is worried about "bottoming out" or losing players from a team that finished 13th. Nowhere to go but up!
