Next Gopher Head Coach

Bobby Jackson -
Other than expressing his desire for coaching the Gophers to Charlie Walters a few years ago, haven't heard anything recently about Bobby Jackson being a potential candidate. Waiting patiently for an update on his interest and qualifications to occur...

Be good enough so that the club coaches have to respect you. Either way I'm sure one of them won't be happy within two years as they always seem to have beef.
Yep. Navigating petty rivalries is no fun. But if new coach succeeds he can live above that crap.

Fair analysis. No one is sure fire that we can get or afford. Chances need to be taken. He’s shown he can recruit. I would hope he would follow Juwan Howard’s lead and bring on board an old sage who has been through the battles to help him navigate the inevitable rough seas. Mixed metaphor but I gave it a shot. Not doing that out of the box was a big mistake by Richard.
I agree we will have to take chances...just worries me that we could take too big of one and suck for 5 years with a coach that hasn't had much experience then just be right back here 5 years older

If it's true that Moser wants the Depaul job, aren't we realistically down to Dutcher, Smith and Gates for the job?

that’s the dream
Who ya got? I can't decide between those 3. Gates has my heart. Smith seems most logical (Resume). Dutcher had a team set to be a 2 seed in last years tournament and a 6 this year.

I like Gates but Dutcher and Smith just have much better resumes right now.

Gates would be the biggest risk (not that that's entirely a bad thing) but I think we need someone who we know will at least be a solid coach. I'd offer the job to Dutcher or Smith.

It’s been really difficult to get a read on it. The usual media talking heads are all over the place in who they think is the favorite but my gut is telling me it ends up being Gates...very Fleckish but in a different way. You?

edit: should add that I’m still flying the Craig Smith flag but would be happy with any of those three

That's mini jump at this point. I guess you stay in Chicago and bring your system and recruiting to the Big East.

I can get behind any of 'em. I think I'd prefer Dutcher or Gates. I really think Smith can coach though so I think that would be a very solid hire. Ceiling just seems higher with the first 2 but Smith could have us upper echelon as well. It's a struggle for me ha.

If I was an AD I just don't know if I could actually finalize a decision to go Gates over Dutcher if they both wanted the job.

We're assuming one of them will say yes. I can see all of them turning it down for various reasons. Sorry to pop that bubble. I hope it's not true.

I feel confident Coyle gets 1 of those 3. You could be right but I'd be suprised.

I view Tim Miles as the worst case scenario. Of course he could take New Mexico first. I guess we could just take whoever their 2nd choice was then. :)

I'd rather go Niko than Miles if it got there. I'm just not a Miles guy.

Same. But maybe he turns us down too. I think it's a virtual lock that Miles would take this job in a heartbeat.

RP staying another year would be worst case scenario since he hasn't be fired officially :)

Muss or Bust.... If you truly want a program that can compete with the best teams in the B1G, you got to bring in Muss.

At this point, it would be close to Reusse's "Fire him and then rehire him" troll job. It would even worse than when they all but fired Monson in 2005 and then took it back.

The next 5+ days will be torture waiting for some real news on this.

Maybe Coyle has his man, as some have speculated. But I’d think the tourney results play a major role. What if SDSU goes to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8? Does that convince Dutcher to stick around? Or if Cleveland State pulls of a huge upset over Houston and makes a short run, does Gates decide to hold out for a better job? Seems like there’s a lot in the air that could go into this decision.
