***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT wisconsin BATTLE FOR PAUL BUNYAN'S AXE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

OC definitely needs to be less predictable the 2nd and 3rd quarter was RUTM, RUTM, and 3rd down throw. Gotta mix it up some. He did in the 4th and they were better. Overall a pretty meh season. I was just happy to see B1G football. Win the 2 OT games and it was a decent season.

Gophers just played WI evenly at their place. We saw a few new receivers make plays. Much of the recent past WI would just wear MN down - there seemed to be an obvious talent difference on the lines. I didn’t see that today. WI won. They don’t look any better though. Looking forward to next year.

The problem isn't Morgan. It's the offensive coordinator. They are putting him in just absolutely awful situations with poor play design / play calling.

Everyone and their sister knew that Minnesota was going to take a shot on 2nd down. So you leave him in the pocket against the most obvious blitz situation ever? No, you call a bootleg, or a screen. You figured that out last week. What the hell happened? Did you forget what to do?

Why is Morgan throwing across his body late on designed plays? Who does that? Do you think you're being tricky? It's f***ing stupid. I don't get it.
Lol

That’s a good point

you know running a trap doesn’t work if the linebacker fills correctly. Better take that play out too.

in fact, every defense is designed to stop plays. So we better take every play out

The difference is you're not trusting a college QB to turn around 180 degrees, read a situation in a fraction of a second, and complete a really difficult throw, while running in the opposite direction, without planting.

It's a bad play, and it ends in disaster more times than it scores.

It’s not the OC that causes us to run so much. If you want to run less you’re gonna want a new head coach.

that’s fine if that’s what you want

Yup. Similar to when Wisconsin runs on 3rd and 7

coaches didn’t trust morgan much tonight (nor should have they IMO)
I trust him on first down but on 3rd and 7 all the time when line is going to get beat. As I said somewhere in the football threads this offensive line is lacking and does not play well against good teams. They need to recruit 4-5 lineman every year just to make sure you have numbers in case of attrition.
Morgan looks so slow to read and is a half of second late on all his throws this year.

uw was missing a lot of talent and they are going to be heavy favorite next year.

Glen Mason ran that play.

It is a fairly regularly run play despite you not liking it.

Your last sentence has been the biggest issue with the offense all year ImO

not comfortable in the offense.

Can’t recruit 4-5 linemen every year. Can’t have 25 scholarships on 5 positions on a roster of 85 scholarships. But I get your point. I think OL play has gotten better under Fleck personally

None.
There is no evidence.
No games mean anything in the broad scheme of things.

But these games mean something to me.
You don’t think these games don’t mean something to the team? LOL
For sure, they just mailed it in. Keep telling yourself that.
I am saying there's a lot of evidence that they don't mean anything to the University of Minnesota. They should mean more to everyone who puts on the maroon and gold from the President down to the groundskeeper than they do to fans. I think there's some in that group that are more than happy just getting that B1G TV money and don't see their role in the B1G as anything more than that. We've allowed Richard F'ing Pitino (and previously Dan Monson) to coach the basketball team for 8 years. Look how long Jim Wacker kept his job. I could go on.

They didn't mail it in today, but they coached and played an awful football game against a Wisconsin offense that probably should have never crossed the 50 yard line against a competent B1G defense.

Talking about Jim wacker means nothing
No one on this team was even born.

You know who else sucks. Henry sibley. He never cared about making our state better than Wisconsin either

They mean something. But they don't have the talent to win. If you played sports you know you get up more for your rivals, even if they are a much better team and very likely to beat you.
They didn't have a much better team today. My point is that the University obviously doesn't care that much. If they did they wouldn't field teams that lose 23 of 26.

uw was missing a lot of talent and they are going to be heavy favorite next year.
I think Iowa will be favorite if Northwestern’s quarterback doesn’t come back. If northwesterns quarterback comes back they’ll get some love.

Gophers might be a unanimous pick at 4

I hope all those who were overjoyed that we could play Wisconsin in Madison, rather than a crossover game we probably would have won, are happy. 23 losses in last 26 Badger games. Barry Alvarez got what he wanted. Morgan had a bad day and a bad season. Big drop-off from last year.
I'm one of those thrilled that we played this game and the longest continuous rivalry in college football didn't end because of absurd paranoia. I was disgusted that so many on here were glad the game was initially canceled. That attitude of Cowardice is not flattering to a team or its fan base.

Nothing in my post says run less. You have the damn B1G back of the year! Of course you run the damn ball. Less predictable and less runs are not the same things.

They do everything they can to recruit players to a very cold place that hasn't been consistently good since like the 60s.

Yes, caring is what makes the difference. It’s that easy. If only we cared more we would just win.

What color is the sky in your world.

I meant favorite in the game against the Gophers

My point still stands. If you want us to run less on first down, you’re going to need a new head coach

Yes, the team has started to figure things out. Were playing like the team we want to see every game. Merry Christmas to you and all posters.

Thank you sir, and best to you and your family for the Holiday Season.

I think we're kindred spirits - optimists is a much easier life to live!

How quickly does Mo declare for the NFL? Hope you enjoyed his 3 years here because that’s probably his last game in a gopher uni!
I am so tired of excellent Gophers leaving early to play in the Pros. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the players themselves in realizing their dream. Maxx Williams, Winfield, probably Bateman, Coffey, Oturu, scores of hockey players, etc, the list goes on.....Seems like teams we play, although declaring early, many come back for their senior year to bite us (ie. Garza). Just seems that way to me.

My point still stands. If you want us to run less on first down, you’re going to need a new head coach
Well they aren't going to get a new Head Coach. So what are you going to do about it. Piss and moan some more?

Glen Mason ran that play.

It is a fairly regularly run play despite you not liking it.

High school linebackers are not the same as a B1G linebacker in 2020, all of whom are coached not to let that happen, and can jump 3 ft in the air / run a 4.5 forty in the opposite direction if they catch it. That play should not be part of a modern D1 offense.

I see people calling this the last game of the season.

As I understand it, the rules on bowl-game eligibility have been waived for this year. So, pretty much any team can play in a bowl game if they are invited and they accept.

Of course, we don't know for sure how many of the lesser bowl games will be played. the CFP games will go forward and I assume the NYD games. after that, remains to be seen.

But just because the Gophers are 3-4, they are not barred from going to a bowl game.

As far as today's game:
Morgan needed to be good.
He was average.
Average wasn't good enough.

everything else aside, that is what it came down to. some poor decisions, missed throws, and some 'odd' pocket presence. Not what you want or need from a veteran QB.

Okay. When you run one you can take it out of your playbook.

I’m not complaining at all. In fact I’m trying to tell complainers the only solution to the run on first down 75% of the time problem is to change coaches

They do everything they can to recruit players to a very cold place that hasn't been consistently good since like the 60s.

Where on Earth do you get this from? We are talking about losing consistently to two programs IN THE EXACT SAME CLIMATE. Two programs that Minnesota used to dominate.

Even when Wisconsin isn’t good we can’t beat them. So sick of losing to those assholes every damn year.
Wisconsin was rated like 12th in the country 3 weeks ago.
They aren’t good but they aren’t horrible.

I too am sick of losing to them
