rumor mill.......jd speilman

What you say makes sense, on the surface.

So how do you explain the debacle of this season, for him?? You can't tell me that they (Rick and JD) had TCU in mind, can you? A middling program in the Big XII? And then to barely even get to play at all? Why not Iowa State? Much closer to home, Rick might have a chance to see him play, and a great team with a great coach. Why not Oklahoma State? Etc.

And then if there is smoke to the rumor that he's interested in transferring here as a grad transfer ... again, why not just transfer straight from Neb to Minn, then??
Middling program? TCU has the second best record in the Big 12 over the last ten years, only behind that Oklahoma team.

Can you imagine being JD and watching a couple of your childhood teammates now playing in the NFL, and to top that if you had chosen MN in the first place you could be the 3rd receiver in that same time frame heading to the NFL, along with TJ and RB. Instead you're fighting injuries and trying to figure out yet again, where to find your next opportunity. Sometimes the answer was right in front of you all along.

You're right, of course, but this is pretty sad. Seeing his dreams fade while others become a reality. Its like the story of the basketball teammates from a rough neighborhood. One gets out, one doesn't. Obviously JD is from a wealthy family and will be just fine without a football paycheck but to lose a dream sucks, we've all done it. I hope he makes the best of his grad transfer and has a good year somewhere. Ideally here.

This has to be tough watching your friends make the dream. If JD wants to play professional football. He clearly is going to have to make a strong calculated decision where he would get some playing time. Believe he will take his time do to that. He may earn a scholarship or he may not depending upon the school that fits him best.

Didn't Carter Coughlin, his former Eden Prairie teammate tried hard to have him sign with the Gophers? There has to be a sense of what could have been.

Sure, it's easy to look back now and say he would have been better off at MN. However, him being a receiver, I can't say I fault the kid for going elsewhere and not signing on to be part of a Kill/Claeys offensive system. All the more puzzling why he went to TCU. With that said, he chose a rival, so I can't say I have too much sympathy for the guy...

Hmmm ... that's weird because this is the 9th year that TCU has been in the Big 12.

But anyway: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TCU_Horned_Frogs_football_seasons

They were awesome in the MWC. In the nine Big XII seasons, they've had three tremendous years: 2014, 15, and 17. Outside of those, including this year, they've been every bit middling. That includes the current and previous two seasons.

By the way, did not know that Jim Wacker came to Minnesota from TCU. He was 40-58-2 in nine years there.

I actually think Coughlin's brother got into a kind of publicized fight with JD Spielman. I'm sure it was just HS nonsense and BS message board speculation, but I remember a short time when we thought they didn't want to play on the same team.

That could be. However it was also reported that Coughlin was communicating with JD to sign up with the Gophers.

What will happen first, this JD Spielman thread will end or COVID will be 100% eliminated?
I get what you're saying. Covid will never end though. Always will hang out there a bit. With many not willing to take the vaccine, it will always linger somewhat.

Not true, in the slightest. It will eventually run out of people who don’t have immunity. One way or another.

Ummm- if one doesn’t have lifelong immunity to Covid (via being infected or by vaccine) which is more than possible as with other corona viruses- it is quite possible this novel corona virus and it future mutations could be a scourge for some time.

Mutations, yes. That wasn't brought up, until you did now.

Of course, if covid mutated like the seasonal flu, then that would be that.

But as far as I (and I believe anyone) knows, it doesn't mutate that fast. So it is stationary enough that we can wipe it out.

Completely unproven that a significant enough number of people won't be immune for some decent number of months after inoculation.

That concern is a misunderstanding, stemming from a truly minute number of cases where people did indeed get infected twice.

My hypothesis: every virus has some very small number of people who would get re-infected. It's just that we have had unprecedented hyper attention and scrutinty to every aspect of this. So you see a literally handful of people, in the world, out of hundreds of millions who've gotten infected and recovered, get blown up on media. Similarly, three people in Alaska have an allergic reaction, out of perhaps hundreds of thousands or already millions by now, who've taken the Pfizer vaccine with no such issues. (side note: extremely weird that all three are in Alaska, don't you think? Something went wrong with that batch. Or maybe something in shipping.)
