All Things COVID-19 College Football Impact

The irony here being, of course, that if the previous guy had done the same thing, said the same things, the masses would be lauding him as a champion of college athletics, a real difference-maker!! Someone who really, truly CARES about the college student athlete!

If the previous guy even had college football on his radar at a time like this.....he wouldn't have gone the bully route.....irrationally acting as though he had the power to snap his fingers and start up Big Ten football. If the previous guy would have weighed in on this....he probably would have come from a mentality of collaboration (we'll do what we can to facilitate, common sense safety precautions should be in place).

Unfortunately Trump simply isn't intelligent enough even bother trying to sound empathetic or supportive. He's used to bossing people around and having others clean up his messes. You'd think after nearly four years of this....his supporters would catch on. Tirelessly taking his words and spinning them into what he "actually meant". At some point years from now....will you finally realize that Trump isn't a smart dude....or at the very least....that he's not a good fit for this job? Ruling from a metaphorical throne and barking commands isn't effective.

No, it’s living in reality, and having proper perspective. Nobody is saying myocarditis isn’t present or isn’t a potential problem.
We have all seen that your "proper perspective" is not.

Again, how many science degrees do you have to give you this proper perspective and immense knowledge on how science is conducted?

BS, You are all saying that myocarditis is not present and using tweets or blog post to justify your case!

The NY Times? No, seriously, like a real source. That would help
Therein lies your problem. You would rather believe what you want to hear from "your" hearsay sources than from a credible source with real journalist standards.

Step out of the echo chamber and begin thinking for yourself. Do your own research and fact check your sources.

Hey, a newspaper is reporting a paper may or may not see the light of day with numbers that may or may not be correctly quoted or relevant. Percentages, 30-35, 15, whatever. It’s solid evidence sight unseen.
Go ahead and try and discount the source/paper as much as you want to fit your narrative. You obviously know very little about the scientific paper review process.

Have you been around TCF Bank Stadium and surrounds lately? Its like no-mans land. Trump cares about the little guy, his job or lack of, and local business that are closed or struggling to stay open.

Where is Joe with all this?

Trump cares about "the little guy" and the local businesses now, as much as he cared about the countless contractors and other workers/businesses who he stiffed through his real estate endeavors.

Zero.

Relevant - expert thread debates significance of MRI findings, return to play criteria, incidence of MRI findings in controls, athlete differences vs general population. They even discuss...needing more data. Ate we capable of having balanced discussion? Worth reading all sub threads and replies. Some excerpts:

I read some posts and of course no one can legitimately say why they hate orange man bad other then they have a disease called liberalism.

1) orange man bad cause “wall”. Why does every place in country have fences up or no trespassing signs? Privacy? Seal off your property? Don’t want to be intruded from strangers? I bet if I came to your yard and popped a squat you would call police to have me removed or if I pitched tent to stay and starting building my home there you would be furious. Don’t even lie and say you wouldn’t. I don’t care who builds or pays for it, it’s protecting America. Imagine instead of our illegal past President Obama giving 150 billion to Iran he put into into America protection.

2) trump says mean things! Well everything isn’t sunshine and roses like your everyone gets a trophy mommy and daddy taught you. PC has destroyed so much so I’m glad a trump says what’s on his mind.

3) trump fights for the little man, businesses to succeed. Law and order. Every major city has been ran by Democrats and everyone of them is lawlessness. I’ll use Minneapolis, they are so extreme left they watched Minneapolis burn instead of protect it. I don’t feel sorry for Minneapolis, you get what you voted for and they voted Democrat. Match made in heaven.

4) Democrats are openly telling you they will strip you of your rights. They already are censoring free speech through Big tech and media. 2A is under attack and they have openly said they are coming for your guns and rights to carry. Voter fraud, they are pushing this to fraud American voters and there are many cases. Before you try and say libs are not on voter fraud there is a reason they don’t want you to have ID to vote and other things to prove identity.

and lastly. The scamdemic has shown the liberals are a do as I say not as I do. Crazy Nanci recent hair gate. Deblasio and Cuomo handling of it and then walking around without masks. Thankfully I don’t live in these states, no mask for me and enjoying freedoms.

Also, trump has dedicated the most resources to child sex trafficking than any president in US history. There is also many other good things he has done such as work with NK, Brokered peace deals, killed terrorists, destroyed ISIS, and kept us out of wars. None of this is good though to liberals.

what I said won’t change any minds which is fine. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Why don’t you tell me all about it?

Nothing’s perfect, that doesn’t mean it’s broke. All great and important issues that have been long-standing areas of improvement. The scientific community is extremely self-aware of these issues... sounds kinda like an anti science talking point to be honest...

It’s interesting how I agreed with you but you tried to pick a fight with me, sorry I don’t agree with you 100% on things.

Why would we expect to agree on things 100%?

Anti-science? What part? Continual evolution of understanding, debate is part of the process. Quality, ethical work, peer review is fundamental. You sound more like an ideologue than a scientist at times. Venk Murphy is one of the watchdogs and that seems to set you off for some reason. Why?

^^ The whole Twitter dump: if none are PhD’s, then not a single one is an expert opinion.

They’d be every bit of a layperson as PE is.

Where is the Yacht Guy? We're still waiting for that big announcement.

As far as this thread is concerned, you'd have an easier time convincing Gopher fans to root for Wisconsin than you would convincing Trump fans to support Biden, or vice-versa.

maybe they can put something into the covid vaccine that makes people stop acting like a-holes when it comes to politics. That would be a medical miracle.

on the fandom thing - we have a mobile society. people relocate but take their old sports allegiances with them.

And based on my experience with Nebraska fans, they are very devoted to that program, no matter where they live. whether they are realistic about the program's current place in the college football world is another topic, but they love them Huskers.

I actually agree with Trump on alot of things, but his criminal behavior is where I draw the line. I also believe those in power should be held accountable for how they use their power which Trump obviously doesn't believe...

Why don’t we have “let them play” in Minnesota? Nobody gives a shit?

That would be wonderful. Both sides are overflowing with obnoxious idiots. You’d think they were all Badger fans.

Never thought I'd see the day that people looked to Twitter for their medical advice.
I always thought the same about elected officials but apparently this year loads of people were apparently getting medical advice from elected officials. WTF

criminal behavior? Such as what? And Biden is your man you voting for?

Absolutely amazing how some here think public officials, college AD's, university presidents, etc. just go ahead and decide what to do without getting a lot of advice from doctors and scientists. Quite sure they spend a lot more time looking at data and listening to experts than the "reasonable" GH'ers who basically just want to see a football game despite their very unsincere worries about all those poor school kids. Speaking of advice from elected officials, guessing some here aren't wearing masks because they're taking their medical advice from that patriot in the White House. Wonder if they took just a nip of disinfectant or that drug Pillow Guy was peddling?

Sadly, it seems that for most people (or at least the most vocal), the answer to that question is a resounding "no." Everyone is immediately labeled an a*hole conservative who doesn't care about the health and safety of the athletes or a "leftard" who's afraid of their own shadow. There IS middle ground on this, but it's super sad the discourse in this country has devolved to such a degree that there is no middle. How many even possess the ability to have a reasoned conversation without their blood pressure rising and insults moving to the tip of their tongue? Too many find their identity in their political party being in power...or the other side being "wrong"...or in the success of their favorite sports team(s).

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post, but do you have an issue with posting informed debate from actual cardiology experts? Fine to take issue with twitter as a medium. It’s limiting.

Notwithstanding the staggering string of nonsense you’ve posted in this thread alone, Murthy is indeed an MD/PhD.

I don't understand all of the uproar from "fans". If it is feasible to come back safely, it will happen. Letting the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 be the guinea pigs is a good plan. And for everyone complaining about this being political....that doesn't even make any sense. Big Ten football being delayed wouldn't hurt Trump at the polls. If anything....I think it would help him.

Oh....and:

Tennessee scrapped a scheduled scrimmage Saturday after head coach Jeremy Pruitt said 44 players were unable to go, the bulk of which were due to contact tracing and positive COVID-19 tests.

Pruitt said his team was short 31 offensive players and held a practice session instead. The Volunteers, who are scheduled to kick off Sept. 26 vs. South Carolina, are unlikely to be able to use their full allotment of practices in the run-up to the season, Pruitt said.

There is even a divide between intelligent, informed experts eg, research/academic vs clinically experienced on the certain unintended ”real world” consequences of the uncertainty of these study findings, of possibly labeling millions of people as having potential early death sentences or disability. Is it possible there may be a run on cardiology offices of concerned, asymptomatic patients, or parents demanding MRI? Medico-legal issues, careless remarks by some physicians leading to unfounded litigation, preexisting ambulance chaser problems? Unintended consequences of millions of people (eg known or undiagnosed diabetics) avoiding exercise unnecessarily?

None of this is to say we shouldn’t try to avoid infections... But, if done properly football programs can probably make it work with minimal risk, if everyone buys in.

There is clearly diversity of thought amongst the consultants. Some universities are attempting campus life, sports after consulting with experts. As with most things YMMV and risk tolerance, liability tolerance, PR angle factors apply.
