Transfer list possibilities, Spring 2020

Has he even said he has any interest in coming home? I haven’t seen anything
I know we were on his list at one point. I'd have to think we're probably his best offer and it is home. Just seems like this is a place he'd want to be if we'll have him.

Scrambling around 10 sec clips...Mutaf is Michael Hurt with swagger. He is 18 years old from Turkey and 6-6.
He would help on the perimeter, possibly. He has a lot of internet NBA entries on sites...just no info I found. So, he is not unknown in the basketball community.
Hopefully, he could blossom into a European sensation for the Gophers. He plays with enthusiasm. That's a plus.

I do like the look of his outside shot and he can definitely handle the ball a bit.

Much more athletic than Michael Hurt. Also more put together.

per Marcus' Q&A:

Q: Now that Rice transfer Drew Peterson has backed out of his commitment, and BJ Greenlee is transferring, who are the potential replacements on Pitino’s radar? – Dan Chang

A: Things appear to be moving quickly toward Pitino having a chance to land 17-year-old Turkish guard David Mutaf. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound native of Istanbul has been talking a lot to the Gophers staff recently -- and even saw a virtual tour of the U. They are looking to add depth at the wing after losing starting junior Payton Willis to transfer last month. Rice transfer Drew Peterson was an ideal replacement with his size and versatility, but he committed Monday to USC and has to sit out. Mutaf, who also has heard from some SEC, Big East and Pac-12 schools, is known for his three-point shooting and ability to create his own shot. His older brother, Cam Maxim Mutaf, is a member of the Turkish senior national basketball team. Mutaf has experience with the junior national team as well. What might give Minnesota an edge is fellow countryman Alihan Demir having enjoyed his senior year here last season after transferring from Drexel. Demir has said good things to Mutaf about the Gophers. If he signs with Minnesota, it will be the second straight class with a recruit from overseas, including German forward Isaiah Ihnen last year.

Go Gophers!!

Obviously being closer to home wasnt the issue, or possibly sitting out a year. What the hell happened after he verballed here to make him leave? Weird!
Sitting out must have been the problem ... for Pitino. He needs people who can help him save his job, this season. Peterson unlikely to do that.

Frankly, I don't think Robbins has any better of a case. But maybe Pitino was assured by people in the know that he can claim being closer to "family" (you know, the uncle/cousin that he didn't grow up with) during the pandemic would be a great boost to his mental health. Right, but whatever works.

So it's going to be Mutaf for the wing, and El-Amin for the PG ?

Hope Carr comes back (likely?), hope Robbins gets eligible (who knows?), hope Curry can contribute (who knows?).

Could we see Freeman in the portal as well? I guess since Robbins and Curry are question marks, he might have to play.

If we closed this class out with Mutaf and El-Amin, that would be a pretty damn solid finish, IMO.

So much for that. El-Amin posted this last night....

So we are now all on a 17 yr old from Turkey who no one has heard of a week ago and who no one has any idea when/if he could get here due to the virus. I may be more on the pessimistic side but man some people on this board have total blinders on in terms of expectations.

It was basically the same with Ihnen last year. He had some early injuries, but I'd say all the reasonable people would agree he looks like a very nice pickup.

I believe he was a grad transfer correct?

No, I think people on here clarified that he just had played 3 years at Ball State. I don't think he ever redshirted. Sounds like he would have needed a waiver, but I could be mistaken

what you know about a kid from Turkey is nothing and therefore useless

I hear that Turkey kid really fills you up and puts you to sleep on Thanksgiving!

Dude if he can't get here in time cus of the pandemic do you really think we will be having basketball games this fall? Lol

Also I get wanting to get guys who help you need now, but you still have to build a program while doing that. Shortcuts won't do it either.

Hard to have one of your starting guards shoot free throws like this. It seriously might be in contention for the ugliest free throw I have ever seen... it's nasty. Not a huge loss for Purdue.
