All Things 2021 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

He’s fine. Creates room with jab steps and step backs. Quick release. Not saying he’s an instant star, but he’s better than Ben Carlson already.

But can he be as good as Michael Hurt?:D All indicators point to yes!

Carlson is more athletic and a real good player and at this time I say Carlson is better. However Tschetter is way better from 3. Carlson shoots it flat lots of front rim misses and no real go to moves on the block.

Carlson is quicker running and jumping and could really elevate his game with a few tweaks IMO.

IMO if Tschetter was 6’10 he would be a top 75 player.

Not how coaches and seasoned scouts see it at all. Not how Pitino saw it on the same timeline, not how Gard saw it.
Carlson played on D1 compared to MN Heat & he played in the metro area. Will has a lot of potential. He is just beginning to scratch the surface imo. He is def better than Joey King & way more physical. King gets a lot of credit for crying after that upset but he was terrible. Part of the least talented gopher team that we have ever seen

I never brought up King. Carlson was recruited on a much a higher scale. Will may be just scratching the surface and coaches do miss on both ends but i can give you dozens of guys who were not on high profile high school or AAU teams that got great offers and become stars on power 6 conference title teams. I hope will is good enough or becomes great enough but right now Pitino and other power 6 coaches are not getting that in his evaluation. They could all be wrong. Perhaps we should be offering now. I can not offer a informed opinion because i have not seen him in person.

I seem to be in the minority but just dont see big ten level. Not enuf lift to guard inside nor quickness to guard perimeter. He can hit the three, won't be able to get his shot off inside. Plays against weak competition. Maybe he shines on aau and would surprise me.

If he played this summer I think those offers would be coming in. A lot of under the radar guys get their offers the summer heading into their senior year after a solid summer of AAU

I like Tschetter as a back up option if Frankie Collins, Kendall Brown, etc go elsewhere

Demir could get shots off down low in the Big 10. If you have good foot work use both hands and have counter moves it can be done. Lost art form. Tschetter has that potential

No his skill set is different than Murphy’s and finesse is a word I would not use to describe Tschetter. Tschetter can shoot has some low post moves on both blocks. He has counter moves on both blocks. He will take a charge and do some dirty work.

Imo better overall potential than Joey King. Give King props he could shoot his ass off. All bigs get away with things in HS because they are 4-5 inches taller than most players but if you look at Tschetter’s skill set he had some things that can translate to college success.

I suppose my word choice could have been better. What I meant is that he's very skilled all around and doesn't get by on sheer strength/physicality, whereas Murphy did. If Murphy wasn't able to overpower and physically manhandle players around the rim, he wouldn't have been very productive. Tschetter doesn't need to do that in order to score.

My main point is just that they're very different players and it was really weird to compare the two.

It's possible that we will have to prioritize other players depending on how many scholarships we have, but I think it's hard to find PFs with the skill level that Tschetter has. I'd love to take a chance on him.

Agree. The coaching staff might think they have enough size and want a bigger two guard type. Who knows?

Carlson cannot shoot very well. if he learns to play his role, do the dirty work and rebound, he will be a plus player, but if he insists on playing on the perimeter (his current inclination) he will disappoint. Tschetter can be the whole enchilada. Greg Gard needs to get out more,

So when will those offers be coming now since the only eval period that will be left will be high school ? Some of these coaches are incredible at finding the under the radar guys. In fact, they found them early as the only power 6 offer and got them way before their senior year. Surely Pitino has seen him enough to know if he wants to offer. Fans should know that Carlson had a lot of power 6 offers before summer. His evals came in very strong with a big upside. I am asking why we are not offering right now.

Agree on the shooting his shot is flat. I think he could a very good rebounder. Yes he was outside a lot in high school. His development will be interesting to watch. Great work ethic and have seen Carlson play 25 times and never once complain to a ref. He just plays hard.

If Pitino offered more of those guys earlier, we would probably get more to commit. Walton offers didnt grow until last summer bc of his AAU production. Same for Gabe. Pitino never takes chances on skilled players. Its rare we offer players who are skilled/fundamental early.

Gard just won the Big 10 and will keep on winning. He does his work early and does need to get out more . He does it on a very cheap recruiting bill. Knows how to put guys together that win.

Will be shocked if he approaches Joey King level.

I've heard that so many times, how often has it worked for the better. I don't have the energy to start listing the players we ended up with.

He's also good at losing his best athletes. No matter how you spin it losing Kobe King hurt Gard - and probably hurt future recruiting as other great athletes will be weary of Bucky's system that favors white shooters.

Recruiting is going fantastic for Gard. Davis is a far better athlete than Kobe. Not sure of your color of skin comments. Greg does not care, he finds players that will win together. Hell the Davis twins are from King's high school and they did not even think about backing out. They are pretty far down the road on 2021 recruits.

Not sure of my color of skin comments my ass. Look at Bucky's roster construction - Brad Davison, Tyler Wahl, Reuvers, Micah Potter, Pritzl, Joe Hedstrom, Ben Carlson, Steven Crowl- Yeah I guess I was out of pocket for stating that they have a way above-average amount of white players, as they always have

As for Johnny Davis - he is a better athlete but I wouldn't say significant. It just looks that way because he's playing high school ball. I have no idea why he stayed committed to Bucky after Tyler Herro's and Kobe King's comments about the program - seems whack to me but I predict a transfer similar to what King did this season.

Want to wager on the Davis transfer ? Your ignoring all the players that Greg has recruited and none of them were recruited because of the color of their skin. They were recruited to win games and go to school. The Davis brothers and their families love Gard.

I didn't say they were recruited because they were white - that'd be racist. The fact of the matter is that Bo Ryan and Gard have built a system predicated on clock management, low turnovers, and efficient shooting - they were ranked 349th in the country out of 353 teams in possessions per game. Not good for any kid who wants to build his brand and get drafted to the NBA.

Also... I'm confident one of the Davis brothers will transfer before their careers at Wisconsin are over. Kobe King transferring and Tyler Herro de-committing should be a major red flag for any kid with serious NBA aspirations.

Yet Wisconsin will continue to win a bunch of games, contend for league titles, get to the tournament and make runs there every few years just the same.

Would love for our team to have the kind of success. Couldn't care less about kids who want to build brands. That's not what is enjoyable about college basketball even if it is starting to infect the product.
