All Things 2021 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

Eli King one to keep an eye on in SE part of state.

This kid definitely caught my eye. One brother already playing D-1 basketball, another one likely to be playing D-1 eventually (going JUCO route for now) and Eli seems to be the best of them all. Or he goes and plays football

Will be keeping an eye on him

Edit: Looks like he has football offers from Minn, Iowa, Iowa St

Has Ball offer from Northern Iowa, maybe some other mid-majors?

One thing about him is he will become as great as he can be. He will not leave out any amount of effort.

Something in that water down in Caledonia, those kids work so hard. There - from a semi outsider perspective - does not seem to be a whole lot of entitlement even from their high-end athletes. I'm sure they are cocky and competitive and whatnot, but I respect the heck out of the way their basketball team plays year in and year out because their approach just seems, for lack of a better term, professional.

I agree with the bit on Tschetter being a fringe high-major guy. Feels like the type of player you can get every year and I don't think missing on him would hurt the perception locally beyond the outstate folks who want to get loud about feeling like he's disrespected due to location.

He can score. He's got a terrific motor. Some nice skill as a shooter. And he's a grinder on the glass. I think high-effort is a skill and am not discounting him as just a 'try hard' but I don't see him being a can't miss type of guy that anyone would care about if he were from any other state. He's from here, so we are obligated to care more about his recruitment. RJ is constantly pumping him up I suspect in part because the 2021 class isn't great around the state as a whole.

After Holmgren - who is probably a G League guy at the rate things are going - it's a bunch of solid outstate bigs who are likely mid-major guys and a couple wings who are in the Mike Hurt-or-lower tier.

Eli King is going to be a really good D1 player in whatever sport he chooses. Pitino should offer him. Kid is special.

Gophers should’ve offered him this time last year. Kid is a beast. Think Murphy but 2 inches taller with a outside stroke and handle. The only reason he hasn’t received HM offers is because of his loyalty to his HS and AAU team. If he played for Minnehaha Academy he’d be top 100 in the country. Fun fact he plays for Johnny Tauer in the summer.

Lol maybe you're joking, but Tschetter is nothing like Jordan Murphy. Or are you talking about a different Murphy? If Murphy was 2 inches taller and was a good outside shooter/ball handler, he would have been a top 5 pick.

I haven't seen him play, but he sure sounds perfect in the role of "Minnesota kid who goes to Wisconsin and pisses us off for four years."

So did Alex Illikainen

Who knows with Tschetter. Again, if he were from Illinois or Iowa, or Michigan, would anybody care if he played somewhere else? Take away the familiar name and familiar town (if Stewartville counts as a familiar town) and just look at the profile, I think he's a nice prospect but not one that if he gets away, I'm double wielding pitchforks demanding for Pitino's head

I think there is an issue with taking Tschetter and Thompson in the same class unless you have a lot of scholarships. I don't think they work very well as your PF/C combo. Both would be better served playing next to a more athletic player.

I want the young man who wants to be a Gopher. Big Cheese has a great motor and love for the sport. Working hard to prove he is a big ten player.

20 of the 36 early commits are staying very close to home. Huge increase in early commits as well.

Pitino hasn't taken a chance on a Minnesota kid that might be a marginal B1G talent early in the recruiting process in his 7 years, I don't think he offered Omersa until later in the process, Hurt had other big offers so I wouldn't consider him to fit that description. He's offered a few at the end when he needed to fill spots that went elsewhere. I doubt he gets an offer until the fall if at all.

About that joking you were talking about... you can’t be serious?? All if’s... the reality is Murphy was headed to VCU. Tcshetter will get those type of offers. Have you seen him play? I have. Taller then Murphy. Great footwork around the basketball. Good shooter. Great IQ and feel for the game. Tough enough for the B10. Better handle then you’re beloved Murphy... like I said. If he played at bigger school or a shoe program team he’d already have several HM offers. You actually sound dumb... Murphy top 5 pick smh

I'm not saying Tschetter isn't good. I actually hope we offer him. I'm saying his and Murphy's games are nothing alike. It was a bizarre comparison to make. Murphy is super strong, physical, and explosive, but can't shoot. Tschetter is basically the opposite of that. He's a finesse player. They couldn't be more different.

And yes, if Murphy grew 2 inches and became a good shooter and ball handler, he would be incredible. That isn't a bold statement at all.

Do you want Pitino to offer him right now ? He needs guys that fit what he is trying to do. Totally respect your opinion, just asking.

He should be offered. Period. Then spend time vetting each other to see if the fit is right. He would fit fine with Thompson. Two bigs who are capable of stepping outside to shoot. i don’t see a problem there. We would still need a point guard in that class. Unless Mashburn can surprise.

There must be a reason that we have not offered.

Roster building has been his everlasting shortcoming, and he lacks any staff members with local knowledge.

If he’s even in the conversation with Murphy by his senior year in college that would be a good career.

Disagree with your first sentence.

That's fine, but does his physicality really remind you of Jordan Murphy? I like both of them, but comparing the two of them is absurd.
Players like murphy and mbakwe lived off of physical play. Maybe tschetter plays a little physical but I doubt it's to the extent of those 2 players. I also hope he gets an offer.

No his skill set is different than Murphy’s and finesse is a word I would not use to describe Tschetter. Tschetter can shoot has some low post moves on both blocks. He has counter moves on both blocks. He will take a charge and do some dirty work.

Imo better overall potential than Joey King. Give King props he could shoot his ass off. All bigs get away with things in HS because they are 4-5 inches taller than most players but if you look at Tschetter’s skill set he had some things that can translate to college success.

I would hope Pitino gets on board and makes big cheese and offer. Will I feel would be a good fit and feel he has allegiance to his home state.

Kid shoots from his chest. He wouldn't get a shot off on B10. Somebody help him with that jumper form. He is skilled and athletic enough to play at that level tho.

He’s fine. Creates room with jab steps and step backs. Quick release. Not saying he’s an instant star, but he’s better than Ben Carlson already.
