All Things "Top 5" Thread (Movies, TV Shows, Cities, Countries, Actors, Beers, Restaurants, Athletes, Sporting Events etc.)

Top Five Comedies that Don't get enough Respect:

1. Walk Hard: THe Dewey Cox Story (absolutely hilarious)
2. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
3. I Love You, Man
4. Team America: World Police
5. School of Rock

Popstar was very funny. Just didn't get enough build-up. Much like another Andy Samberg movie, Hot Rod (brilliant). And another Andy Samberg movie, which is more of an Adam Sandler movie, which is probably why is is so poorly thought of.....That's My Boy. Very 'R' rated and very funny.

Well, we were limited to 5 albums! You could also say that Led IV (despite the overplaying of Stairway to Heaven), Led II, or even Houses of the Holy are very tough to eliminate. I think I went with Led III because of its sublime acoustic songs.

Very difficult to choose a favourite Zeppelin album. I happen to go with Houses of the Holy. Over the Hills and Far Away is probably my favourite LZ song. The Ocean contains of my favourite riffs by them.....and the changing time signature is really cool and well done. A great song. And No Quarter is a criminally underrated song as is the Rain Song.

IV (Zoso) and Physical Graffiti are right there as well.

I haven't seen Hot Rod, but I have a friend who swears by it.

Walk Hard is not only flat out hilarious, the music in it is fantastic.

1. Minneapolis
2. Nashville
3. San Francisco
4. Duluth
5. San Antonio
I'd probably put Duluth no. 1, mainly because of its scenic perch at the pointed western end of vast, cold and mysterious Gitchee Gummee (Lake Superior).

Favorite line (not verbatim - from memory): I think I'm doing fine for a 16 year old guy with a 14 year old wife and a couple of kids.

The whole age thing is awesome, and that quote sums it up.

"Get out of here Dewey! You don't want none of this!!"

Over the Hills and Far Away is also my favorite Zeppelin song.

I just realized that in my post....that I called The Ocean.....The Ocean Song. I was already thinking about The Rain Song. ?

I can live with that list very easily. I still liked Seinfeld better than Parks/Rec but everything else is stellar.

Ok, I had to sleep on it, but here are my top 5 favorite albums. I'll probably lose the respect of my peers for #1 & #4, but both are undeniably solid.

1. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
2. Never Better - P.O.S
3. The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie
4. The Stranger - Billy Joel
5. Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) - The Kinks

Film comedy is another tough category to pair down. I'm going to divide this into 21st century and pre-21st century and limit the list mostly to pure comedies that are not equally weighted toward some other emotion (pathos, romance, reflections on the human condition, etc.).

Pre-21st Century (in no particular order)
Tampopo (1987 - Japanese)
Blazing Saddles
Airplane!
Animal House
The Bird Cage

Honorable mention: The Bank Dick (1940)

21st Century (in no particular order)
Superbad
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Pitch Perfect
Walk Hard
Borat

Honorable mention: In Bruges

I recently replied to a tweet asking for an artist that's not necessarily cool but that you love nonetheless. Mine was Billy Joel. The Stranger, 52nd Street, and Glass Houses is as good a three-album stretch as anyone ever.

Not to mention the records preceeding them: Streetlife Serenade and Turnstiles. Wife was watching (I think it was) This Is Us the other night, and the episode featured "Summer, Highland Falls" from Turnstiles. It could be that these older recordings are being rediscovered by a new generation. And Streetlife Serenade is a briliant, overlooked album.
