***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA V TEXAS TECH, PITINO V TUBBY IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Someday I would like to see a great shooter on this team - I watch Duke, Indiana and other teams take the same shots we do but they knock them down. Mason and Morris are always short on their shots. Someday I would also like to see an athletic center!

It's pretty tough to make shooters...possible but tough...it's a lot easier to recruit them. Add Wisconsin to the shooters list. We don't recruit shooters. Tubby inherited Hoffarber...last time we had one.

Pretty bad, you have to go back to the Monson years to find a game that was defended this badly, you have to work to be good on defense, so far that hasn't happened. Hope it was an anomaly, if not this is going to be a very long season.
This is a concern that timetime will tell.
Do the kids, playing this year, have the desire to work hard? We didn't see that today. But, does the fact we were on game three of a long weekend having fun in Puerto Rico play a part in that lack of effort? Kids hanging around the beach in San Juan...what could possibly distract them?
In any case, today's game was a clunker. Get home, get back to work and try again.

Morris is our leading scorer today, second leading rebounder, team leader in steals and leading assist guy....so I'll ask again where are we going to get this production without him?
While Mason has made some free throws in one game... he was 2 for 9 today...shooting poorly again. He added zero assists, zero rebounds, one steal, 2 TO's and four fouls in 33 minutes but Morris is the problem? King and Morris is all we have so far that have any consistency.

It's not necessarily his 'fault'. But if no one else steps up to create some offense, Squirrel will fill the void, both good and bad. When he leads us in scoring it's often due to volume of shots. And for every nice drive to the hoop today there was a turnover on a charge to cancel it out.

Starting to question if King will be effective against the power 5 teams. He's so weak that it's hard for him to do anything against bigger players.

We've already seen him be effective in the BT and he's clearly better this year. King is the least of our worries.

Yeah, I definitely think Diedhiou will finish his career at another, lower level, program. He has no discernible skill.

He somehow had a few promising moments guarding Kaminsky, but besides that, he looks like he's never played basketball. Are we seriously ever better off playing Gas than Murphy? Obviously at the 4 but even at the 5--is there a single area that Murphy is worse at than Gas? (besides size which hasn't translated into any advantages for Gas)

This is by far the proudest I've been of a GH game day thread of a bad loss. So happy to see that not many people overreacted. I was also happy to see I wasn't the only one who was absolutely blown away by the refs. I don't think they understand that you have to be set to draw a charge and that you can't be in the restricted area. Unbelievable. Not like we played well enough to win, but still.

Can we fast forward to next year?

Tiny, classy as always. You started several threats for this game. All the jokes are you now. All the bashing of Tubby you did over the years are now back on your court. Where do I start???

Gophers were actually a more talented team but very very lost. The difference was a game between a less talented team coached by a HOF coach vs. a talented team coached by a coach that is learning on the job.
If you go back to watch the game again, you'll see the ineffective full-court-press that was broken every single time. It was obvious that TT had practiced for it. Every single time, Zack Smith brought the ball to the Gopher's court. You would think that Richard would make an adjustment after 20th time but no he is learning.
Like I said after the Temple's game when Gopher's had only 2 assists, this team that is talented plays street basketball that will rely on individual plays. A team like that can be defended very easily by the way.
We talked about talent that is coming in at PSU. You have to be able to coach the talent. Do you seriously think that next year things will magically change?
All the jokes such as Tubby's inability to design an in-bound play were not funny. All the standing around that Tuuby was bashed for did not exist yesterday.

Yes Tiny, the jokes were all on you yesterday.

LOL, yes, Tubby's team won. Yes, they controlled the tempo. Yes, Tubby's offense is still below average. Yes, our players are raw. Yes, time will tell if Pitino can teach our kids to play the game. Yes, I would love to see these two teams match-up in March to see the difference in improvement.

Unlike you, I am optimistic that our squad will improve dramatically over the course of the season. We will see if Pitino can light that flame or not. I think he can. You...obviously don't think he can. You seem to Pine for a coach who had his teams playing their best basketball in November and had his best players transferring out by January. I'm not sure why you pine for that experience again.

I look forward to seeing what Pitino and staff can do. Will they have a "street ball" team, as you call it, or will they have a young team that has merged and learned to compete in the B1G?

I'm hoping for the latter. You are convinced it's the first. Time will tell. In the meantime you can keep enjoying your stew of bitterness.

Thats an unfortunate quote from Tubby. People commented how he's always class, I remember someone that often got a shot in while at the podium. Whether it was a player, coach, or administrator, not Tubby's fault.

Which part of this did you not like? The actual fact one?

What the H should Tubby be celebrated for?????

He's spent his whole career trying live off a National Champ he won with Pitino's players. Has done nothing since. Vastly over-rated coach.

People talk about how he is all class. I think he is a pompous jack-wagon and a fraud.

Stop sugar coating things...tell us how you really feel. :)

Again, you are wrong. Those TT kids that you saw, started their best basketball late last season. That was way past November. Give it up Tiny. You and Station 19 and a few others are against many who think that Tubby can coach. I wish that I could import the picture of Gopher fans who lined up to congratulate Tubby after the game. One shot was captured by ESPN when a Gopher fan shook Donna's hand. Like Winasota Gopher advised me last week, I am going to stop exchanging punches with you all. No need to get upset. We all have our own opinions, right or wrong.

Apparently Tubby has memory issues and doesn't remember his introductory press conference and first couple years. At the time it was the biggest non-game related sports hysteria I can recall in Minnesota (later eclipsed by a certain QB.)

Smith isn't alone in thinking that Minnesota fans should have low expectations when it comes to wins and losses and just be happy with middling teams. I guess we come off as uppity when we have the nerve to aspire to occasional upper division finishes and a Tournament run once in a while.

Good for Tubby I am sure deep down he really wanted this game and in a situation like that you can tell how much a team likes their coach by how bad they want to get the win for them. I think his players really wanted to get that game for Tubby and they did. Our boys looked lethargic at the start and never really found their groove. Like a Tubby coached gopher team they cleaned up on the glass and crushed us down low. This is going to be a long year if they don't clean up on the boards or stay out of foul trouble. Doubt they would agree to this, but it would be fun to do a home and home with Texas Tech. See where the programs are at in the next couple of years. Anyways I hope tubby does well down there, maybe a change of scenery put a little pep back in his step. he seemed drained the last couple of years he was here.

No. I just paid $1,800 for two season tickets. I'd rather get some entertainment out of this season.

Pretty much says to me that Gophers fans are showing more appreciation towards him than he is towards Gophers fans. Maybe his comments are being taken out of context but they appear to be a shot at him never being appreciated which is a flat out lie.

Tubby has the more physical team. We are notoriously weak physically and mentally especially down low. TT is built a lot like a big ten team. If we are going for long/lanky players we will always be at a deficiency in strength. We badly needed a juco big who knows how to play with size and some tenacity.

I am still glad Tubby is gone. I am still unsure if Pitino is the right guy, but I am glad we are aspiring for more.

Most Gopher fans appreciated Tubby and still think of him fondly. I'm sorry people like Royce White ruined what could have been and it didn't work out better. The comment yesterday was a totally uncalled for low blow. My opinion of Tubby went down a little bit.

In this vein, Jordan Murphy is the kind of guy we need more of. It's not too much to ask that we recruit skilled, beefy guys. They're available. They're available locally. Southwest State had a team full of them.

I have a feeling that home and home vs. TT may never happen. The reason is that Tubby is old and he may retire as soon as he has a winning season in B12 if ever. He just thought of home and home games with UK after all these years so it will past his retirement with Gophers. Maybe Joe, Vince, or Pooh think of something like that in memory of Tubby once he retires. I don't know why I am saying these things. It's not like I am their PR rep or anything. Just a bunch of BS as always.

Oh and I agree. But it looks like Pitino wants more long and athletic types so he can press. But with the tightness of the new rules favoring offense, I am not sure that's a great plan. We have been deficient in solid wide bodies for a while now. Of course Murphy is not only physical he has excellent leaping ability. Iowa, Purdue, Mich St, Wisconsin, all use skilled big bodies in addition to their athletes.

I'd shake Tubby's hand. I'd also sit down with him and listen to some good jazz at the Dakota. You won't find me saying that Tubby is a bad person. You will find me saying that Tubby's offense was nearly unwatchable. You will find me saying that Tubby is an excellent defensive coach. You will find me stating that Tubby's style caused some of our best players to transfer during mid-season. You will find me expressing my frustration at multiple teams regressing in January and February. Those things are on Tubby.

When Tubby left, I wished him well and stopped following him. Clearly you've tagged along and are now a bitter former Gopher's fan. That's too bad. You are wrong to pine for mediocrity while the rest of us look for something better. Perhaps Pitino will bring us something better. Perhaps not. I'm willing to sit back and watch. If it becomes obvious that he's following the path of mediocrity like his predecessor, I'll speak up and call for another coach.

Let's revisit this tweet 4 years from now if/when Tubby hasn't finished above .500 once in Big 12 play. Two years into his tenure here, the gophers made the NCAA tournament. Tubby was most certainly liked by the fan base at that point.

I think too much is being made about Tubby's quote. He may have just simply be referring the U administration, particularly Teague and Ellis, not the fans. It's not a secret that Teague was out for Tubby when he was hired. Tubby would've had to have made it to the Final Four to save his job that season. That cake was baked. I don't think Tubby was talking about the fans.

Ah...I didn't read it that way at first, but I think you could just possibly be right. D@mn those vague tweets!!
