Here are some quotes, not verbatim, from the post-game presser.
Jerry Kill:
•The most important thing is, the bottom line is, we won the game. We found a way to do it. Our defense continues to play outstanding football.
•Playing with two young safeties, they really grew up.
•Our punter played well. Peter Mortell made them drive the field.
•Offensively it was a struggle. We did what we had to do. I’m responsible; I’m the head coach. I don’t know if I have the answers yet, until I watch film.
•We didn’t handle it well up front. It starts there.
•We’re 2-1. Could be a hell of a lot worse.
•How to fix the offense: That’s a good question. I haven’t watched the film. Just have to keep plugging away. Not running the ball well. That’s where it starts. To sum it up, I’m not doing a very good job coaching. We have to coach better and play better and not make excuses.
•“Physically, I thought we got it handed to us.”
•“Don’t have the magical answer right now, but I better get it. Or I don’t deserve to be here.”
•“I’m not going to make any comments on the quarterbacks. Not to be disrespectful.”
•On the offensive line: Did I think we’d be better at this point…Sure, no doubt.
•I don’t think effort is the issue. We just have to get better on one side of the ball.
Alex Keith:
•We’re happy we won. Didn’t play as well as we wanted to, but we got the W and that’s all that matters.
•We were confidence on 100 out there. We were flying around making plays.
•We forced a lot of bad throws. We were getting a lot of pressure on the QB.
•I just had one of the best games I’ve had. Hopefully my game keeps going up from here.
•We grind out each game even if the offense is stalling; we’re still going to be clicking on every level.
KJ Maye:
•The frustration came from not executing well. Have to iron out the mistakes in practice.
•Today, we saw many looks that we didn’t see in practice, so we had to adjust some.
•Mitch has been staying positive. Everyone knows everyone feeds off of him. We’ve been doing fine on offense, just have to get into a rhythm.
•They put in a lot of different things. They messed with the QBs head a little bit.
•“I was coughing up blood but didn’t have any pain. I wasn’t going to let that keep me out of the game.”
Antonio Johnson:
•We feel great. We set a goal earlier in the week to get a shutout and we did that. There aren’t many shutouts in college football.
•We struggled a little bit, but at the end of the day we come here to win. And we won.
•I like playing defense on this team, cuz I like hitting people.
