Sports Huddle Summary will be here shortly, trying to decipher my handwriting as we speak...
'Sorry. Had to run errands. Here it is...
Jerry Kill on standouts of scrimmage: Demry Croft is a surprise on how well he is playing. Been consistent throughout camp. Shannon Brooks - unbelievable day, a special back, haven't seen many did what he's done (in scrimmage). Rashad Still - great day for a freshman, went up & caught a pass for TD over someone, is a vertical thread. Jaylen Waters a Fr did some good things. Kiante Hardin is going to play in some shape or form, has done a great job.
Long snapper is critical. Need Payton Jordahl to come through. Snapped ball 134 times in the heat.
Kill was very please with how kids handled the heat and adversity yesterday. Very pleaed with ovrall efforts.
Shannon Brooks was offensive player of the year in GA. He lives up in the mountains of GA. Credits Coach Anderson. He's got a lot of good relationships with coaches in GA. People know him & people fell in love with MN. Brooks is a strong hard nosed back, got great vision, and he's physical. He'll play as a freshman.
Leidner had a great day. Didn't turn the ball over. Threw the ball away when he had to. Made some great reads. Had a good solid day.
Demry Croft looked good. He hasn't had a lot of reps with 1s & 2s. Getting it done with the 3s. Tremendous composure, threw one down the pike for a TD. Ran a TD in on an option play. Also, on a zone read play. Gives ball out quick. Compares him to Teddy Bridgewater.
Julian Huff a true freshman will not redshirt. Will come off the edge in nickel & dime packages. Has great explosion, very physical, great vision.
Ben Lauer had knee surgery last week to clean some stuff out. Will be back to practice this week.
Kill feels good about seven guys in OL. Need for three guys to step up and get going. Always tough to play a true freshman in OL. Tyler Moore in that mix, but he came in a semester early. That helped him. Moore & Quinn Oseland getting some reps with 2s. Need for a few guys to step up. Brian Bobek done some work in summer & has done a really good job at center. Put Josh Campion back at tackle because of Jonah Pirsig with all the struggle with injuries. Moved Conner Mayes from Center to Guard. Conner & Tyler is a good switch. Tyler is a natural center. Conner is more of a guard.
Kill confident Bobek get another year of eligibility.
Jeff Jones is doing good. He is still learning. Didn't get a chance to do a whole lot missing his freshman year and this Spring. Has migraine headaches didn't practice all the time. No question he has a great future, doing lots of learning, has done great things in camp.
Melvin Holland had a great day.
Dave said NFL camps have lots of praises about last year's players - Cedric Thompson, David Cobb, and Damien Wilson. Kill thinks Cobb will be a starter, heard they might move him to first team or alternate between two backs. Damien is penciled in as a starter in Dallas. Isaac Fruechte has done a good job. Derrick Wells played and did a nice job. Makes Gopher program look good.
Kill has good relations with Beth Goetz. He knew about her while he was at SIU. Dan Obrien & Beth helped him with his contract.
The athletic program is in great shape in spite of what happened. Will move forward. Puts trust in President Kaler. Will get building done and move on.
Other surprise: Emmit Carpenter did a nice job kicking in scrimmage. Has big leg like Santoso. Most improved player in secondary is Charley Rogers.
